  1. Well, Reisig's story above clears up a lot about the murder and shooting, but leaves a lot to be told about the motives.

Who knows? Perhaps this story is even worse than we suspected, with absolutely NO MOTIVE except for a drunk cop.

What exactly does her story clear up? I will tell you, it clears up nothing. It just means there are conflicting reports over what happened or are you taking her words to be the absolute authority over what went down?

    The mind boggles.

Yes, I can definitely understand your astonishment, because you seem to have a penchant for missing basic information and intent. It's really tedious to have to explain the obvious. Her story clears up a lot about the MURDER and SHOOTING, from more than just a Thai cop's story: she and her ex were friends, there was no fight, she isn't pregnant, her Thai boyfriend was with them, and there was a struggle, but after the cop pulled a gun.

Of course there needs to be an investigation, which is why I mentioned both good forensics in the first place, and commented on doubt: "Who knows, Perhaps ..... and motive..."

Chloe, I don't want to respond to you again because quite frankly you are coming off as just an attention-seeker, and not a very interesting one at that because you are not even taking the time to read properly, never mind argue any interesting points.

Chloe, to be fair, you strike me as rather blinkered, and you seem to be missing Kats point. Consider, if you will, the two versions of events with a more objective (and less argumentative) point of view.

I wont reiterate with my own detailed bullet points, as i cant be arsed...... in brief though; the Thai cop states a unique, astonishingly bizzare version of events which is supported by the usual third party unfounded rumours; pregant to a local Thai guy; Love triangle; Fighting et al, et al. Reisig's version is way more palitable and believable...... Straight from her hospital bed where she lies with a bullet in her chest. While the copper is sitting in a cheesy kareoke bar with a bottle of 100 pipers.

Dont challenge me on that. He <deleted> is. Prolly on his second bottle and his fouth tilac. After all, he's the man. Now.

Anyway. Kat isnt advocating case closure. Clearly she is suggesting an investigation. Her initial thoughts on the subject are not intended as rock hard conclusion... just common sense and i agree with her logic.

I fully agree with her that the proceeding investigation is worthy of respect.

But... you know.... lets be honest. The copper fuc_ked up. End of. The murdering bastard just slaughtered a young Canadian dude for little, if any, reason.

  2. Yeah sure,

but please do not say things like "THIS IS THAILAND".

I come from Italy, and in my country Plocie KILL people quite often, and then construct any kind of obviously made-up defense. And judges, legal dooctors, all of them most of the times collude with the police.

In UK, if I don't go wrong, a brazilian guy has been shot in the head in the tube not long ago. And the responsibles? Have they been punished?

And in USA? Awwwwww here I could write a novel about police and unjust violence!

Police is reflection of power, anywhere. And wherever men are legally endorsed to carry and USE guns, such kind of accidents happen. It is not Thailand. The guy is a farang, so maybe something will move. At least.

Carlo Giuliani, shot in the face by a police man in the G8 riots in north italy. The policeman has been released BECAUSE HE SHOT IN THE AIR, AND HIS BULLET BOUNCED ON A FLYING STONE!!! Not even in Thailand they would have such fantasy!

    love

    Pippo

    Yep that's exactly right.

Why is it that once one idiot goes off the rails and commits murder under the cloak of authority does everyone brandish all Thais with the same brush.

Hey let's have a close look in our own glass houses before we start casting stones?!

Does the US invasion of Iraq not equate starkly by comparison when it is now almost universally agreed that they had no justification to do so? I put that in the murder basket! The poor Brazilian kid in the London tube was murdered etc and the list is quite long if you care too look.

All governments and institutions in authority and power cover up or "spin" the real story and facts to salvage the reputation of their own institutions regardless of what country you are in. This is not something found just in Thailand, it is perhaps that they are not quite as adroit at it as others. Gee the US government still have a large percentage of people believing that a Boeing 707 with a 44ft wingspan and 2 HUGE 9ft Pratt & Whitney engines made from Titanium could fit into the initial 16 ft hole in the Pentagon on the morning of 9/11! ..Ha!

Sadly though the Canadian guy is dead and there is nothing that will cure that now. If Thailand is such a dangerous place, someone name for me the last Thai mass/serial murderer, or one that blew up a building full of innocent people in a major city, or the last time a crazed kid(s) opened fire with automatic weapons in a school of any description. No this is generally a peaceful, non-confrontational society in comparison to our western catholic-based ones and the comparisons are stark and in most cases polar in comparison, but when the occasional exception sadly occurs here most foreigners want to kick all Thais in the same punching bag. I disagree strongly. They do have a long way to go in many areas of their justice system, but hey, 2-3 generations ago most of them were just farmers. If this was a Thai couple getting shot in New York by a drunk off duty cop it might make a small page 3 snippet and few people would even care less IMHO.

How about a bit of the "when in Rome" theorem here and not be to quick to criticize anything before they have their chance to step up to the plate. And even if they don't step up, they certainly aren't without good company in that field.

Thats twice in this thread that the Brazilian murder has been used as a comparison.

    Please explain to me.... and i mean PLEASE explain to me how the following incidents are comparible;

    1) Scotland Yard, with SAS (supposedly) supporting them, followed whom they thought was a terror suspect to a train station and shot him in the head several times when they wrongly assumed his back pack contained a bomb.

    2) Off duty Thai copper shoots a Canadian tourist in the head, shoots his GF, for no immediate apparent reason, according to her statement.

Whatever reason the Thai copper had, i am SURE he did not suspect the Canadian dude as a terror supspect.

Its a stupid, narrow minded anology. Sure, the British Police made a fatal error. A huge mistake owing to confusion born out of miscommunicated inteligence. The British Security service's inteligence is amongst the best in the world however on this occasion, they fcuked up and got it wrong. They certainly did not mean to murder an innocent Brazilian tourist.

Did the Thai copper mean to murder the innocent Candian tourist? Well, yes. Unless the point blank head shot was intended as a warning shot.

Jeeeez. Give me a break man.

  3. Pah!!! Just seen the video.... is that it!!! Its a bloody hoola hoop these guys are jumping through with a poxy flame around it. This is hardly hardcore thrill seeking. What are some of you guys so concerned about? Its nothing.

What next? A video posted showing some floppy haired guy from Sweeden doing a bungy jump at Chweng Lake, followed by comments of 'the youth of today' and 'i bet he rides his bike without a helmet'.

To be honest, i was more impressed with the way they all managed to jump, and land with a ninja like forward roll. Someone earlier mentioned a beer belly.... my beer belly would certainly not alow me to land in such a ninja like fashion. I would prolly just belly flop on the sand.

But the actual 'ring of fire' name makes it sound way more dangerous than it is. Its nothing.

For a real thrill seeking, toe curling ring of fire, get yourself down to any of the the Indian restaurants in Chaweng and ask for a special Chicken Phall Curry. Guaranteed ring of fire which requires you to place the toilet paper in the freezer before you go to bed.

  4. Someone on here pointed me in the direction on Laem Din Hotel in Chaweng (Google 'Don Leam Din Samui') its 1400 a night high season, 1000 low season. By far the best hotel i have stayed in ever, for this price range. Free wireless, brand new rooms with fairly trendy furniture, modern, nice bathroom with all the trimmings, air con, cable, fridge, big balcony. Free gym, room service, cafe, restaurant, good staff. 5 minute walk to Chaweng beach, 1 minute walk to the bars of soi regea. Real great value.

If wirless is not important, the Samui Mermaid (Ban Rak, near Big Budah) is also great value. Stay away from the premier, deluxe rooms and just get a good old fashioned bungalow in the gardens opposite the main hotel. They are only 600B night high season and whilst they are fairly basic, they are comfortable, clean, secure, quiet and set in nice gardens, plus there is a pool. This place is 30 seconds walk from the sand and Ban Rak is by far the better area to stay than Chaweng (IMHO) Free airport transfers also.... though its only about half a click from the airport.

The Laem Din Hotel is by far more modern, but the Mermaid is definatley more 'chilled' and more than half the price. You feel like a tourist once again when you stay there.

There are others of course. These are just the two that i realy like.

  5. Lamai now is as crowded as it gets.

    Good!

Tell me something.... Does lamai still have the beer bar complex, surrounding the boxing? Does it still have a couple of decent late night clubs? (Bahaus or whatever).

Im back in Chaweng shortly and may have a giggle or two over in lamai for one night, if it is busy and lively at nights?

I only ask as i have read so much talk of bars/buildings being knocked down. I hope the beer bar area survived. Had many a good laugh over there.

  6. All of you who are trying to goad the OP into committing a criminal act and physically attacking the man (You're not a real man if you don't defend your wife. The police will take your side anyway, don't worry) have revealed themselves as primitive neanderthal thugs and yobs.

Thinking that taking the law into your own hands and that might makes right and that physical violence is an acceptable route to conflict resolution is the kind of third world thinking that you would rightly sneer at the Thais for.

Physical violence is an acceptable response ONLY if ALL other avenues of conflict resolution have been exhausted and if there is a DEFINITE physical danger.

I wonder how many of you are drinking beer in singlets and flipflops and contemplating a new tattoo celebrating your love of your mother and Millwall football club right now.

    Ahh, that old chestnut.

Why does it always have to be the Brit abroad, in flip flops, with tats, supporting Millwall analogy?

So all of the people you have ever met in your life who had a set of balls, and a little pride, are English football hooligans who support millwall (not to wonder even further off topic, but perceptions of violent types on this forum seem to be reserved for we British guys only. There are no 'nasty buggers' in Oz, U.S, Canada et al?)

You are missing my point. I am not suggesting he messes the guy up as a knee jerk reaction. I am suggesting he spins the situation around to nip the problem in the bud.

I suggested he bullys the guy back, verbaly. The matter would end there. By turning up at his office and shouting at the guy 'you ever call my wife again, ill rip you apart' i am certain the guy would realise he can not bully Simon up.

If it was me, i would do precisley that. I would ensure the guy knows that I can not be bullied. Im just talking about barking at the guy - thats all. You have never barked at anyone before in response to aggressive behaviour? You have never stood up for yourself and 'gave a little back' when someone has taken a liberty with you?

Should the guy not feel too intimidated by Simons stance and gets even more aggressive with Simon and Simons wife, he then has the option of knocking the guy out and ripping his office up. Which is what I would do.

Sorry. I am certain that most TV members would take issue with that aproach and write me off as another Milwall fan.

Thats just me. You wont find me on the corner of Soi 4 at 5am, in flip flops, Chang shirt and Union Jack shorts. Im just a normal, respectable guy with manners and morals. Im not a Chang slugging moron who kicks off with someone purely because they have the wrong footie shirt on. I am however, a guy. And if anyone phones my wife and bullies her, I would seek them down and let them know verbaly that they have pissed around with the wrong wife. if that wouldnt do it, then yes... i would indeed kick the guy all over town.

The other option is to look like a complete wimp infront of your wife and spend the next 2 years burried deep in paper trails with a couple of lawyers. In the meantime, the guy will still be calling you and you will be in the same situation. Only you will owe a few shillings to a few lawyers and will have to suffer the stress of the whole legal thing. Nothing happens quickly in Thailand. I am sure that the legal approach would drag on for years. On the other hand, a swift phone call or face to face meeting letting the guy know that you have a set of balls would likely kill it stone dead overnight.

  7. I couldnt care less if the guy is 'connected'. He is a ferang. He is threataning your wife, who is Thai. The Thais are extremely tollerant and sympathetic of anyone who defends his fammily.

Go have a pop at the guy. It dosent matter who he knows.... this is ferang on ferang and whats more, you are in the right. The Thais will see it from your point of view all day long.

Please Simon. PLEASE!!! I beg of you to stand up to this muppet on your own. Be a man!!!!

  8. Some helpful advice here - thanks. It certainly might be worthwhile for my Thai wife to speak with a lawyer about this matter.

By the way, he has no WP... I'd be very happy to see him deported

    Simon

Presuming your side of the story is 100% correct, then I hope to God you do get him deported. I hate people like that in any country and especially don't need them in Thailand.

The lack of work permit is his vulnerability. Do you have any documents with his signature on showing that he was working in Thailand?

Maybe get a friend to go pose as a buyer and record it to have evidence that he's working. Then call him up and say you'll send the evidence to the immigration department and police if he ever calls again.

In my humble opinion, this is too creepy and snidey. If simons life/income/lifestyle/fammily was in immediate danger against a pack of hounds (or maybe a Thai guy, rouge copper, mafia dude) then yes, maybe i would go down the more thought out road of setting the guy up with legal problems and or, going to the police.

But lets be clear; this is just a ferang guy 'giving it large' and trying to 'put it on' simon. I wouldnt hide behind a lawyer, or police, or sinister friends setting him up, over a matter which (i believe) should be dealt with by you, as a man.

Thais marry into us Ferangs accepting our coultural differences however, there is one thing that they do expect from us; to have some balls and protect our fammily. To a degree. They do not expect you to walk into a gunfight at The Ok Coral but they do expect that you stand up for your fammily.

    And so you should.

This is just a muppet scumbag wealer dealer who is giving it large. Front the guy out, put it back on him. Turn up at his office with a few pissed up pals if you need to... nothing cowardly about that; thats just showing you are willing to mess the guy up if he farks with you. Clearly you have doubts about sorting this yourself, so maybe you should turn up with a few pals. You can walk into his office, make it clear you are now wound up, and your buddies can just kinda hang around, 'looking menacing'.

You realy should sort this yourself though. be a man. Go alone and see him, pin him against the wall and tel him that if he ever phones your wife again, you will bite his nose off. I sware - deep down sware - thats what i would do. And no, im not a keyboard warrior.

What ever you decide to do the first thing you need to get is proof or your situation. I don't care what the laws are you need to backup this claim of his "threats" before the situation goes south. Get these conversations recorded without his knowledge. Act more cowardly than you already are so he does not think you are recording what he says. If the conversations and email are as you say they are and he is threatening physical violence to a Thai citizen. It seems to me that the immigration ministry would love to set him right. Right on a plane. If the treats are not violent then no one is going to care but only call you a coward when you leave their office. If it is actually possible for you to grow a pair of balls you could handle it like a man and give him what he deserves. A good whipping! No man would ever address my wife without talking to me first. I personally would take a couple of punches as long as I got one good one in. Even if he one the fight he would thing twice about contacting your wife if you walked up to him and punched him in the mouth without saying a thing. Tell him to come on over so he is on your property. Then you can make up any story you want. Give him a feeling that you stalked him and you would never have to worry again. The Thai police are not going to arrest you if you tell them he was threatening your wife especially if you had proof and no one would help you. Don't make a big scene and don't say anything to him. Just hit him in the mouth without saying a word then everything is understood between you and him. Your wife might respect you a little more. She might act frightened but don't tell her what you are going to do. You need to separate your business / a man's business, from family business/ her business. As it is now, she is thinking you have no spine and cannot protect her. Your wife is Asian but you have learned nothing about how they expect YOU to handle confrontation. This is your job and if you don't handle this your marriage will never be the same. This happened to me and my first Asian wife. A long series of confrontations between me and my drunken alcoholic older brother put me in a similar situation. Although he never addressed my wife, I let him punk me out in front of her. She never showed me any respect again and started sleeping with other men shortly after. If you don't handle this it will haunt you for the rest of your life and keep manifesting into other situations like a ghost. You are asking us what to do but you already know. Don't make the same mistake I did. If he is twice your size get a stick. Reach down and grab hold of what is left or let your wife wear the pants and don't be surprised if she wants to slap you around a little bit. The second a woman no longer feels safe with her man it's over.

Sound advice. I couldnt have said it better myself.

I would have no qualms about hitting the guy except that he is at least 65 years old - I'm afraid that he might drop dead on me.... In any case, hitting him would not really help a legal case against him. I had a confrontation with him about this matter earlier this year and I thought he was going to have a heart attack. He just seems so stupid not to have backed off.

    Simon

Thats no excuse. Whats wrong with you? I dont care if he is 65. 65 isnt so old that the guy cant walk without a zimmer! Regardless, i couldnt care how old he is. He could be 80 years old but if he messed with my fammily, i would kick the hel_l out of the guy. If he has a heart attack, it serves him right. Shouldnt have messed with a guy willing to protect his fammily. Willing to protect his recovering wife who has been through a horrible time and is just barley getting back on track.

  9. Samui got bigger.

Compared to 4/5 years ago, the options are incredibly more vast and ranged. More hotels, more bars and places to eat, more things to do. The place is bigger. I believe (and this is just a guess) that the number of people coming to Samui have not really changed over the last few years. To that end.... Samui is no more quieter than it was say 5 years ago. Simmilar amounts of money are being spent now, as they were 5 years ago. Its just that now, these revenues are being shared by more bar owners, restaurants, hotels etc.

And so the bar owner in Chaweng who complains that 'Samui is dead now' is possibly wrong. Simply put, not so many people go to his bar now as they have far greater options and distractions.

One thing is for sure. The place sure 'looks' quieter. On my last trip, sitting outside magic light bar watching the world go by at 5pm in the afternoon.... Chaweng beach road looked more like Ban Rak beach road 10 years ago. You could litteraly drink half of your beer before a car, taxi or bike drove past. It looked kinda strange seeing the place so quiet.

  10. Simon - i dont want to sound like the hero or anything, but cant you bully the guy back?

I guess its a subjective, personal thing.... but if this <deleted> even so much as raised is voice at me, i would go mental at him. If he shouted at my Thai wife, especialy considering the sstuff she has been through with the drugs and what have you, i would be down his office ready to 'have a word with him' in the car park.

If you are not so 'physicaly capable', at least stand up to the guy on the phone? Phone HIM up, and shout at HIM! Do it every day. Bully him back. It will do his head in if you phone him three times a day for a week, spouting crap back at him.

I dont want to offend you, and forgive me if this is rude.... but cant you be more of a man about this?

  11. They have this mistaken perception that people will travel here for 30 days, shower money on the

local economy, and then jet back to their home countries to save money for next year. :o

I am sorry. You are the one who is mistaken.

Take a look at the TAT statistics.

The average visitor does not stay more than 9 days and that has varied little over the last 10 years.

The amount visitors spend has gone up, by 50% :D

That may be because of the way they include visa runners, or border bouncers, into the stats. For example, i am on a 12 month non B visa. Obviously i have to border bounce every 90 days as i do not have (or need) a work permit. However I have lived here for 4.5 years. I would bet though that if you could break down the stats for me personaly (which is impossible of course) it would show that I stay in Thailand for 90 days at a time.

So in there eyes, i 'holiday' here for 90 days.

Do you see my point? When i do a border bounce, i leave Thailand for litteraly 2 hours, and then re-enter. I would bet they consider this as my staying for 90 days when in reality, i have been staying here for 4.5 years.

Even if i am wrong, i still do not trust the stats and i agree with previous poster; there are many thousands, tens of thousands possibly, of people that come here for a year or two for a holiday. I can think of at least a dozen people that have been here more than 2 years, just having one long ex-pat style holiday, living off there bank ballance in the UK. Its people like this that are being affected - the people that throw average 70-80,000 Baht into the Thai economy very month, every year.

  12. Hi Mods

A friend of mine used the forum for a little while and found his account suspended. He swares blind he cant remember posting anything of a negative nature and has asked me to ask you guys if it would be possible to reinstate his account, or at least offer a brief explenation as to why he has been banned.

Sky Blues was also looking for employment and has recieved a couple of PM's which he would dearly like to read.

Would it be possible to reactivate? Again, he insits he cant remember posting anything bad but found his account 'banned'for no reason.

Hope you can help in this matter, and thank you

    Best regards

    TiT.

  14. A Ferang friend of mine had a bar with wooden decking that illegaly encroached over Chaweng Lake. We are talking wooden decking..... 2 meteres over the lake. The bar itself had stood on legal land for 3 years. Within 24 hours of the decking installed, tesaban turned up with official papers giving the guy 24 hours to demolish. he didnt. They turned up the next day with more official papers that stated the bar would be property of them if they did not demolish within 24 hours. So he did.

    24 hours.

    Ferang.

    Enough said.

  15. Hi All

I guess i should be posting this in the travel section; i figure its Bangkok related though, kinda.

Im hopping on the train to Samui next Sunday evening. All flights are full and this is my only option. Im looking forward to it actualy, something different. I have just been on a website that shows the train times, and im confused..... there are Standard, Rapid and Express trains going at various times and also various different trains (some with 1 class, 1 and 2 class, and 1 2 and 3 class).

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I simply want to jump on the best train that gets there the quickest, in comfort. I looked at 1st class, but as ill be going on my own i dont want to be lumped into a private cabin with a stranger, so i figure second class sleeper with fan is the best option?

If anyone has done this recently - could you let me know the best train and train time to jump on for 2nd class sleeper in order to get to surrathani in the morning?

Also - the train will have a bar, right?

You can umm.... lean out of the window and have a smoke?

The sleeper cars - i read that they are all locked up late evening, so you are confined to your car preventing you from mooching about (having a smoke, leaning out of the window etc) Is that true?

Possible to book combi tickets that take you all the way to samui?

I live a couple hours out of Bangkok..... will i have to go BKK station a few days before to get my ticket, or can i buy remotley?

Many kind thanks and sorry for the boring post.

    GBJJ

  16. Gustave - get a life and stop being so bloody misserable. Topdogger was simply having a joke with no personal dig at you. Your response was like that of a 12 year old public school boy with no mates.

Its guys like you that give this forum such a dull reputation. Stop being so serious <deleted>!!!!

Cripes. Wherever YOU are going to be on New Years Eve, i will be sure to avoid. It will likely be one heck of a boring night.

  17. "I've been here long enough to tolerate the locals"

    Toleration.... in what context?

I can tolerate going for a haircut and paying double the price. I can tolerate some ignorant hick barging to the front of the 7/11 line after I have been waiting 5 minutes. I can even tolerate eating fried squid and rice when i ordered steak and chips.... These things, among many, are just Thailands ways.

But tolerating squaters building a house adjacent to my own illegaly, and throwing raw sewage yards away from my house, where the kids previously played?

Thats taking toleration to its highest level. Thats beyong toleration. Thats just stupid, and cowardly.

I think Mark tolerated these animals way back in the begining, when they asked if they could pitch up next door, just for a little while. That was showing incredible grace and plenty of toleration. But 6 years of taking the piss as they have, and your suggestion is to back the wife and move out?

Keep pushing Mark. If the wife has had enough thats understanderble but you need to be the man and keep pushing. By now it is pretty evident that no one is taking this very seriously but if you just keep nagging away and fighting to the bitter end, you will get there.

Give this Khun Watcharapong another chance.... go see him again and if he lets you down once more, could you not contact the Surrathani police guy who came to visit you?

Would it be possible to chuck a couple of quid to the Poo Yai Ban to come with you to Nathon asnd see this guy?

  18. Thanks for the replies.

Im baffled by it all. I have three tv's.... one in the office, one in the bedroom and one in the lounge. I realy cant decide which room to stick the UBC in now.

I do have cable - and ill keep it, to be safe. For the sake of 250 Baht a month, i may aswell.

Umm. Ok, is it at least possible to buy one of those very small boxes that lets you watch stuff in additional rooms, without the option of watching different channels at the same time?

  19. I must have known this guy. I cant recall him at the moment but i did live on Samui for a few years recently and i would be amazed if i had not met him a few times. Could anyone jog my memmory? Where he worked, hung out....?

This kind of thing realy is so sad. It can happen to any of us, at any time.... regardless of time of day. I am sincerely sorry for his friends and family.

Does anyone know what became of that young fella from Birmingham.... Matt? Apparently he killed one or two Thais while driving a car early hours on the way out of Solo Bar.... fled the scene and went into hiding as he was on a long overstay? This was maybe 18 months ago. The police were looking for him, went to his house and took his passport and intended to lock him up for a heck of a long time if and when they found him. I wonder what became of him?

  20. Hi all

I have just ordered UBC.... to be honest, the price swung it for me; just 2000 Baht for the dish and decoder. The problem is I want to hook up both the lounge and also the office, but they told me that a second room would cost in the region of 9000 Baht.

That dosent make sense to me.

Surely it is possible to hook up a second decoder thingy - with the benefit of me watching the football in my office while the Mrs watches the soaps in the lounge - without spending a wopping 9000 Baht?

Any tips? Can i just go and buy a second box on the cheap?

Also, last question; me and a pal rented a place a few years back that had UBC in the lounge, with a secondry minature box in the main bedroom. The only problem was that you could not watch different channels at the same time, making it rather pointless, i guess. Will i be faced with the same problem if i hook up my office, with the main decoder being downstairs?

    Many kind thanks

    GBJJ
