  1. I quite like Grape Nut although it's almost near to impossible to find it where I live. My next alternative is the highly-palatable (at least to me coz I'm nutz about oat clusters) is Post's Great Grains with Pecans and Dates and heaps of oats. I'm totally a cereal girl and could subsist on said substance for breakfast, lunch and dinner and even without milk too. :o

If one were to find Grape Nuts lacking in flavour, one really should try Weetbix, that is the epitome of dull, boring and plain wholesome goodness or so they say.

I tried those Grapenuts ... A bit like Ovaltine laced cat litter :D

    Naka.

I wouldn't know. I have not tasted Ovaltine or cat litter.

Fair enough to say that not everyone, actually most people do not like Grape Nuts, but those that do, really do, and as the brand has been around for over 100 years, that hasn't changed.

Fair enough ... But next time you go shopping buy a can of Ovaltine, I'm sure you will love it !

    Naka.

  2. Alright, so it's tucked in a little corner on Soi 11 and I'd definitely have missed it if I weren't looking for it as desperately as I was owing to the recs and raves here.

The place was packed on the both nights that I went and except for diners talking loudly over each other, there was little to complain about the ambience, then again, I was all about the food and couldn't care less about the noise level and din.

Ordered the Quattro Formaggi and since I've always had tomato-based sauce, decided to try the white sauce for a change and glad that I did. The rich cheese flavours came through perfectly without the oftentimes overwhelming tomatos fighting them. Lil sis, the girl-child couldn't quite handle the blue cheese and I ended up finishing most of the pizza which wasn't very big in the first place. Every bite was worth savouring and if you're a cheese-freak, this is definitely worth trying. Crust was thin yet not baked to a crisp as most Italian pizzarias are in the habit of doing so these days. An absolute pleasure in all and I left the place sublimely happy and in pizza/cheese heaven.

Pictures speak a gazillion words. =p

  3. For a truly delicious but expensive meal, Celadon at Sukhothai Hotel in South Sathorn is always reliable but I'm more of a street food girl so as good as most restaurant food is, I would still rather eat at the back alley of Suk Soi 2 any day and night. :o

Lai Thong on Suk Soi 22 isn't too bad either. Once again, I don't think it's worth paying 250baht for a plate of Pad Ka Prao when I can get an equally yummy one for 50baht on the streets. My mom on the other hand, is easily grossed out by the roaches and rats that choose to dine with us when we eat on the Soi 2 so she's really the only reason why I even step into MK. =p

What's your budget or preferred price range like?

  4. The new word for today: pedantic :o

In all seriousness, there is nothing wrong with a little pedantry if it allows for better comprehension and elucidation all around, is there? Not to mention, ease and pleasure of reading. If English isn't one's native/first language, then the dropping of prepositions and verbs (e.g I care you, I not speak English good), as well as poor sentence structure wouldn't be an issue at all. It is only when one can't be bothered to take the extra few seconds to write/type coherently/properly (we're not talking about Received Pronunciation here) when English is your main/only mode of communication that truly irks. I realise that the *pedantic* in those that enjoy writing in their indecipherable and slothful manner will probably pick up on my being so easily irked and thus probably don't own any sort of a life. Uhm...that's your prerogative then. Opinions and ASSumptions that is. :D All that being said, I have to admit that there are times when I'm in the mood for a little ebonics and that is something that annoys me to no end. :D

p/s Tywais, I know that you're only playing, sorry for taking your quote out of context. :D

  5. Nope they indeed know not the meaning of *on time*.

My flight which is scheduled to depart at 8.40pm has now been *retimed* to 11.30pm and yes, I'm at the aiport terminal now, twiddling my thumbs and trying to get to pissed off coz I've been warned, haven't I?

Thanks to all you folks who were kind enough to share your experience with AA and let me assure you, you've been duly vindicated for I am living proof that AA is not beyond making their passengers wait for a good long-ass 3 hours for a delayed flight. :o

Gonna grab a latte now. After all I do still have another 1 more to go...and there's only so much DFS shopping I can do, owing to a lack of deep pockets and whatnot.

  6. Just tried it a few weeks ago and I was impressed, best original italian style pizza I had in Thailand

Being the cheese freak that I am (and yes, I can so love chocolate and cheese BOTH y'all), does it come with a generous topping of mozarella and if not, will they grant my request of extra cheese? :o

  7. BrokenDolli, I can email you Peacemaker's Kit teung if you want. ^^

Current favs (I have six; what can I say, I adore Thai indie/pop as cheesy as they seem to some. =P They really are awesome when performed live. Massive love here.)

    PECK เป็ก - หมดใจ (play at least 10x a day =p)

    Bodyslam - นาฬิกาตาย

    Restrospect - สุดที่รัก

    BOYdPOD - รักคุณเข้าอีกแล้ว

    Silly Fools - วัดใจ

    Modern Dog - ตาสว่าง

  8. I'd never have guessed that things were as dire as this. :D Is there really no way you can have a rational talk with her and make her understand that p. would be better taken care of with you, since she doesn't seem to have any interest in him save to use him as a lever against you? :o And seriously, what sort of power or influence does she posses that she is able to boot you out of the country?

I really hope your situation is resolved soon. I know how much stress you must be under right now, what with school and taking care of p. single-handedly. Alcohol's (and ice-cream and chocolate and pizza) on us when we're in bkk aiight? :D

    All the best.

  9. Another rather clear indicator is the fact that Chinese from Singapore, Malaysia, HK, Taiwan, etc. often get a virtually free pass (well, for a fee or favor usually...) to actually BECOME Thai, when nearly every other foreign ethnicity has to jump through hoops. If all the "Thai Chinese" who weren't home grown had to do visa runs, instead of simply being issued Thai ID cards by the ethnic Thais running their last bastions of organization: gov't/district offices, you'd have numbers in the higher hundred thousands/low millions having to leave the country every 90 days.

    :o

You just gave me a fresh lease of hope. Today is a good day indeed. :D

  10. I was told rubbing cut strawberry onto teeth would clean & whiten teeth & strengthen gums. Has anyone heard of this ,as the season approaches.

Oooh I've read something about that as well. Doesn't cost much to try does it? Also oil-pulling apparently works as well. www.oilpulling.com. I gave up after 3 days due to ick-factor and plain slothfulness. However, long-term practice has yielded quite positive results...if one can stand gargling and swirling OIL in one's mouth for a good 20 minutes that is. *gag*

  11. Airasia fly to terminal one at Changi

Do they really use the Budget Terminal now? Pfft...they really should update their site then coz I'll be flying to BKK in two weeks and still am informed that I'll be departing from T1! :ohttp://www.airasia.com/site/en/factSheet.jsp

Btw, Andiamo, when are you coming to SG? I don't think the DFS is in Suntec anymore...hehe..I should be absolutely sure being that I live here and all yet have never paid much attention to the DFS at all. They've moved to somewhere in Orchard Road. Okie remember now, DFS Galleria Scottswalk. 25 Scotts Road. :D And rejoice! For Sephora, my candystore has now blessed us with her scrumptious presence there. I hear angles singing....beckoning me into her sweet arms. :D

  12. There are a couple of bars just under Sin bar and Ball in Hand that are cosy and equipped with only two or less pool tables each. A personal favourite of mine, but only because adore I the girls there and also think that the owner Keith is one cool cat :o (despite his penchant for Johnny Cash and the like =P), is Metro, which has 3 pool tables, the most awesome bartender in Sukhumvit and the friendliest non-gogo girls around. They also probably have like 5000 songs on their laptop since they are able to play whatever whimsy piques my fancy at the time and however obscure too. ^^

All places mentioned are along Soi 4, down past Nana Plaza and opposite Hilary Bar.

    [edited to add location details]

  13. I've always flown Tiger which operates out of the Budget Terminal but will be flying AA for the first time this month and it departs from Changi Terminal 1. The DFS offerings at Terminal 2 is absolutely drool-worthy but can't say the same of T1. No goodies like La mer, Bobbi Brown or Mac. :D Just the usual EL, Clinique, EA and such. :o HTH!

  14. Just get a taxi to Khao Sarn and walk from there. It's just by the temple.

Agreed, that's how sis and I went the last time. We were totally looking forward to the fast devouring of 2 platters of fish due to the many raves I had found online but came away severly let down. :D Much props for the big-ass size of fish though. Ordered cod for myself which had bones aplenty and thus making the whole devouring business a thoroughly unpleasant affair; would have overlooked that tiny issue if the flesh had at least been tasty. But alas. Chips were soggy and soaked through with oil. We were the only customers there at 7pm and yet waited a good half hour for our meal. YMMV and all though. :o

  15. Sidestepping the in-house bitchin' that is inevitable in such threads owing to the different factions that are onboard and bearing in mind that we're all but one big happy family :D, I will say that my adoration for the country is like that of one for a oftentimes flawed and incalcitrant child. A mother's unconditional love if you may. Recognizing the imperfections, grumbling about the suffocating heat, the arbitrary rules, a chaotic and disorganzed system and at the end of the day, with a sigh of resignation, loving it all.

It's not so much about seeing things through a rose-tinted haze but seeing things as they truly are and still be unable to suppress that grin and affection for the people (however annoying the few might be), the food, the culture and the environment. A gazillion and one complaints be dam.ned. :o
