Yes, they do need to do that. But you have to wonder about the scale of the problem when northern provinces have AQI numbers in the 5, 6 and 7 hundreds yet the rest of the country is substantially lower. Do the bad burners only live in the North or does pollution from the neighboring countries play a more important role in the North than in the South. As a northern resident of two decades, I believe the North suffers from proximity problems that are mitigated elsewhere in the country by distance and wind currents.

There are three things that start a fire:

The Phu Chi Fa fire(s) was started by embers from Laos, so not the Thai's fault. We've had a bit more helicopter action of late so they are doing something.
Where are the good old days when everyone here blamed China !! Now it is Laos, Cambodia or Myanmar take your pick In Thailand there is no corruption ,no manipulation and certainly no pollution .

Hot spots or fires? It doesn't make sense the same agency would report totally different numbers on the same day. Can you post a separate link to the numbers?

Interesting article in the nation this morning says that satellite based hot spot detection systems showed roughly 2,700 hot spots in laos, 2,300 in Cambodia, 2,500+ in Myanmar and circa 750 in Thailand. All numbers very approx from memory. Also, vast majority of fires on national parks or protected areas, very few hot spots attributed to agricultural burning.
And the same article from the same newspaper at the same day says "after 3768 were detected across Thailand "by the same agency .

So , someone ( mikey ) just making a comment about the poor air quality getting earlier and earlier every year is a whiner . I am sure that in a few weeks people here will claim ,as they do every year , that the bad air comes from China.
In Thailand there is no corruption ,there is no pollution and there is no manipulation it's all misunderstanding.

Did you happen to notice that the last few years saw Covid devastate Thai tourism, a major economic input/factor ? That many businesses shut down, and many are not reopened.
Proof tourism/exports have grown heavily ?
Dear mr.orange37 , it is as simple as that !!!! When Thailand had 39 milj.tourists my euro was more than 40. I came to Thailand in 2004 and until 2014 my euro was never i repeat, never under 40. But in 2014 came his holiness prayut and my currency felt from more than 40 to now 2023 only 35. Why is the Baht blacklisted for manipulation and why can prawit order the BOT to keep the Dollar at 35 I live here 18 years now and I am sure there is no corruption in this beautiful country , only misunderstandings

I have COPD stage 3 and i have also breathing problems due to change in the weather. COPD patients are very sensitive to weather changes . I have a oxygen concentrator cost me 19000 baht (lazada ) which i rarely use. What helps me now is my omron nebulizer with " Inhalex Forte " Nebulizer cost me approx 2000 on lazada . And the most important is a good air purifier. I have one in every room and two in the living room. Also get checked for sleep apnea I have been sleeping with cpap machine for a year now and i feel a lot better. It doesn't cure your copd ,but i sleep a lot better which is very important for copd patients. I hope I helped you a little. Take care and your medicine

I suggest you go to the hospital instead as you don't need to climb up any stairs or lifts like the shopping malls.
Ask for a wheelchair at the emergency counter and either pay some hospital staff to push you there or bring your friend along to push the wheelchair.
The hospital vaccination rooms are on the ground floor but the hospital is huge.
Thanks Eric !!!

Could this be the reason that the AQI readings are lower than those from Chiang Mai
