  1. I live at the new development over in Saket. It has been aimed at Thais for sure lots of couples with young kids and one house has been converted into a nursery. I am the only farrang in to moo bahn for the moment. Quite a few of them seem to have been bought to then rent out so might get some non Thai neighbours in the future.

  2. I've been looking all over for those photos but they are nowhere to be found. I'm 200% sure they were on the Facebook page, I was browsing a huge album showing a friend and we both thought it was looking good and worth considering. It looked well underway but now the photos have been removed Posted Image (?)

I live here, nothing has changed on that peninsula.

Unless you where looking at there other project they have built ?

  3. The road was not closed for sure. Quite a lot of traffic around as you could imagine for that time of night.

The "VIP" getting out the min vans looked like Chinese that's why I was wondering if it was common. If these crazy mini van drivers had decided themselves that they are above the rest of us and need a siren and flashing lights to get high paying tourists to the table before the tom yam gets cold.

I dunno just thought it was odd.

  4. So I was driving close to tesco lamai last night at about 7pm when I hear sirens behind, so I pull over expecting an ambulance to pass me. What came past was a mini bus followed be 8 more mini bus in a convoy all with hazard lights flashing. After they passed I continued on my journey and I didn't take long to settle my curiosity on where 9 mini bus were going in such a hurry.

Turns out they were some VIPs off enjoying there evening supper at sabiang lay just past hin ta hin yai.

Is this normal? I don't regularly drive at that time of the evening so its a first for me. No wonder so many people don't pull over for sirens if it is.

  5. The Wife has a business in central Lamai, every year its getting better by approximately 20 - 25% so I don't believe its a downward spiral for all businesses. you just have to target a largely family market consisting of many Russians and Chinese.

When it comes to costs she has worked out she needs to be clearing about 3500 a day and then she stars making money.

So if we were to think about a coffee shop whats that about 50 - 70 cup of coffee a day to break even however I think your fixed costs would be higher than my mrs as you would need at least 3 staff and quite a lot of pricey equipment to run a decent coffee shop.

as others have said think long and hard, as i believe your set up cost would push into 1 mil mark to set up something of a decent standard.

    Cheers

  6. Was she selling something? I have heard a similar remark when a customer offers a very low price for something and the seller doesn't want your business.

"That will be 100 baht please"

"I tell you what i will give you 20 baht for it."

" your alright, do you think i am sitting around here all day waiting for your business so i can eat?"

  7. I can't think of the last time I saw fog in Koh Samui. However 50% of the cars I drive past seem to have fog lights on?

Advice for drivers who drive with their fog lights on you don't look like Colin McRae (once did) you look like a cretin.

Having your windows completely blacked out has the same effect as heavy fog regarding the drivers visabilty

Fair point. Didn't think about that.

  8. And people wonder why there is corruption... It's people like you and your wife who encourage politicians to steal. For every 1000 baht handout, 2000 baht is taken back from the people. And you are allowing it. Thank you for stealing my, and other Samuians money! Next time I blow a tyre in a pothole, I will send you the bill for a new one.

She's taking the money and votes for the other candidate.

Oh my. Some people just don't get it. The 'other candidate' also pays, so will want that money back, double. The loser will try again next election, and just adds this years losses to the new vote buying cost, and take it all back double, should he/she win then. Just don't take any money, and you have a right to stand up to corruption, and complain about 'lost' public funds, and bad infrastructure. Some people are just too dumb to understand that the 2000 baht profit today is their 4000 baht loss tomorrow.

I agree. However, i'm no sure I wouldn't take the money if I grew up in Thailand and had no faith what so ever in any of the candidates. 2, 3 or 4 thousand is a lot of money to some.

  9. Despite the many unsupported rumours about the previous administration - the current mayor really has been supportive of the many farang-bases business and ventures on Samui.

HOWEVER - THE ELECTION IS BEING HELD OVER A 2 DAY PERIOD - AND IT'S NOT 24th DECEMBER.

Saturday 22nd is the first of the dry days, with the actual voting happening on the 23rd.

The info from the vans and half a dozen Thai friends have confirmed this.

The OP gave me a fright - simply cos of the govt attitude. I should have checked it out before ranting - sorry.

    R

    Apologies for the fright.

  10. Not sure if this has been mentioned before but was driving back from maenam and stopped at the art cafe at samui town centre just after the bo phut traffic lights.

It's a interesting place which caters for vegetarians, vegans and thankfully the common carnivore the food is mainly Thai but unlike most Thai food on the island is quite unique and msg free. I had the gang gurri Kung and my wife had Laab Gai and both were very tasty.

Service was prompt and friendly and the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food served would recommend to anyone who is looking for well presented healthy, tasty Thai food.

    P. S. If all that veg is too much and you need to indulge. The cheese cake was also delicious.

  11. Best Indian food in Lamai goes too..... India Live now moved close to the lady boxing area just another 50m up the one way system. They have an offer on at the moment Chicken tika Marsala, Plain rice, poppadom, garlic nan and a beer for just 220 and it was delicious. So delicious I thought I would share it with you lot.
