Hi there,
I seem to remember motorcycle dealers have sales at Songkran (from pre-covid times).
Is that a correct memory?
I need to buy a new Honda Wave or Click for the wife...not sure which is best...she just needs reliable transport.
I think the price of a Click 125cc should be about B60k. Not sure about the Wave.
I'll be back from overseas... that's why I'm asking...
Thanks....

Thanks a lot.... a good range of opinions.... and food for thought.
A few points prompted by some replies....
* I am in daily contact with "wife and daughter via Line. I spend 5 mins to an hour on the video calls with my daughter every day.
* I don't draw an Ozzie pension yet... I work in a Call Centre for my sins and earn a fair wage.
* I don't worry about dieing. Every night I lose total consciousness... about the same thing I think.... except no waking up if you die.
* Government regulations changing all the time worry me as much as anything else... lack of certainty.
Thanks for your replies !

Hi ...does anyone know the name (and/or email and/or other contact info) for this pharmacy, please ? It's said to be better than Faschinos.
"The pharmacy located on Sukhumvit. It is located on the left side of Sukhumvit about 100 metres after Highway 7 joins Sukhumvit driving South towards Pattaya Klang. Thepharmacy building is paintedgreen and not hard to find"

I need some good advice.
I fear I might have "missed the boat" as far as making a move to Thailand. I had planned to move 7 or so years ago ...and I kept abreast of ThaiVisa and government requirements for retired folk living in LOS until about 5 or so years ago. ThaiVisa is AseanNow ....and, somehow, I find it more difficult to find the info I'm looking for....that's probably my fault !
So some background. I'm 72. Australian. I have a luuk kreung daughter who is 11 years old and a Thai wife. We've never lived together but we get on well when I've stayed for a few months. I'm still working ( to generate money to help maintain my superannuation. )
Now I could sell up in Australia...raise around B9m and get a pension of about B40,000 per month. But if I live another 15 years the capital might not last long enough to leave some money to my daughter
I understand about the marriage visa and reporting requirements. That's ok. Two things I don't understand.
First...medical insurance or self-insurance. I think you can self-insure by putting B1m in a bank account. But what happens if you need to use half of it for a heart attack? Do you have to replenish it? And will they chuck you out if you can't top it back up. (The prices for annual insurance over 70 appear exorbitant.)
Second, the Government seems to have been becoming less and less welcoming and comfortable with ordinary farangs (as opposed to super wealthy ones) in the last 10 years. It could change with the new Government, but who knows which way? I worry that the government might continue raising the bar until I'm no longer able to stay (but I've burned my boats in Australia).
Any good information and sound thoughts appreciated !

Hi again,
My daughter needs some maths coaching on Saturdays.... She lives in Map ta Phut. She was doing ok until COVID came along....but she fell behind and hasn't recovered. She's at REPS School Ban Chang.
I see there are several Kumon Schools that do coaching type programs for maths.
* Does anyone have any experience with them?
*Can you advise a good one?....There seem to be several Kumons in the area...can you recommend one...or have any feedback?
*Can anyone advise contacts for a good private maths coach? That might be a better solution....English or Thai language ok.
I will be more than grateful for any help.
Thanks a lot..... Mark

Hi there,
Sometime in the nearish future I plan to take my 10 year old daughter on a holiday outside Thailand. Her mother doesn't like planes and won't be with us.
I guess I'll need a letter from her mum giving permission for her to leave the country with her father. (As many countries require these days, I believe).
Does anyone have a template or suggested wording I can use? (In English is ok....I can get it translated)
Any notes on requirements will help (eg does she need to get the letter stamped at police station?). Who is it addressed to? And so on....
I don't want to run the risk of getting rejected after paying for flights and hotels and after checking-in. That would be a disaster !
Thanks a lot !

That probably explains why Thai Airways has no information on its website.
I'm flying back to Australia as a returning resident. I'm not sure I need anything then...
I'll be double vacinated and boostered before I leave.

Hi again,
I've done a lot of googling but haven't been able to find anything reliable on what hurdles I have to jump to exit Thailand after a four week holiday. (eg Antigen test or RT-PCR test or no need to test)
If you can help it'll be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot....Nam has a fairer price (fare - ha ha)....1,900B.
And new website https://www.namstaxiladydrivers.com/services
Looks good !

When arriving Suvarnabhumi can you show vaccination certs, Thai Pass, etc on your phone screen or do you need to have them printed on paper?? (which will be challenging for me for PCR test).
Anyone have experience with this ?
Thanks !

Anyone else please?
I've got one suggestion 2,500B and another a 500B taxi from airport (which is not much help).
I used to pay 1200B.
Hope someone has a good contact.

Hi there,
I've tried searching the forum. Difficult search function these days, especially on my phone. Couldn't find what I was looking for...
I've used the same taxi broker for 15 years but he's gone out of business due to COVID.
Can someone recommend a Taxi Service (broker) who is reliable, has reliable cars and good drivers, please? (Going from hotel near airport to Rayong)
Thanks a lot.... Marko

The wiring from the meter to the switchboard will be 'strong enough' then? (To carry all the load that may be drawn from the switchboard)

Probably run in 4mm2 cable on a 32A breaker.
Thanks again!
Will the 32A breaker be something to fit in the existing RCD Switchboard or do we use a separate (purposed) breaker?
I have no practical knowledge...but I think a separate purpose dedicated breaker would be better. (Don't want to overload the existing board that has 3 or 4 air conditioning units wired in.)
Here's a pic of the switch board.

Which machine are you looking at & what’s the drop in humidity over what period are you looking to get?
Hello StWW...
It's all a bit difficult...I'm stuck in Australia ... My wife buys around 200kg fish at a time...so the machine probably needs to cope with 40kg at a time. All the machines I've found on the internet are 4kw to 4.5 KW....although I'm sure there are others...

Thanks so much....that pic will help a lot !

What size meter do you have? (5/15, 15/45, 30/100).
Thanks Crossy,
I'll try and find out what meter size we have.
I'm stuck in Australia, so it's a bit challenging...
* where on the meter is the 5/15 etc rating ?
* Does it usually have any units after the digits eg A or W ?
My wife's often quite good at finding this kind of thing...I remember her saying it was a larger size when she bought it.
Cheers !

Hi there,
My wife wants to buy a large (industrial) dehydration machine. She's gone into the 'fish business' and relying on the sun at this time of year is problematic.
I've had a look on the internet at the machine she wants to buy. They are rated 3.5 to 4.5 Kw.
I know very little about electricity, but I'm pretty sure that a standard domestic power supply and socket will not safely supply this amount of power. (Although maybe large air-conditioning units use this much).
Am I right ? (It would be cheaper if I'm wrongl.
I guess we can get a local electrician to put in a new supply from the main switchboard and a heavy duty power socket. What would we need to specify if that's needed?
Any ideas about the approximate cost?
Thanks a lot for your help...

Recently, my nine year old (luuk kreung....half-farang) Thai daughter has started to be 'picked-on' at school. She's coping, but it's not good for her and she intimated to me that she sometimes has to go to the toilets to have a cry, on her own (she doesn't want her antagonists to see her cry).I gather the bullying is quite frequent.
Picking-on her includes excluding her from the group, teasing, name calling and so on.As school bullying is an age old problem...I'm thinking that the school should have some strategies to address it. (I'm not an educator so I don't know about these things.) There's a lot of anti-bullying work being done in Australia at present.
So I thought I'd write to the head teacher and tell them it's happening and ask them if they have strategies to address it. (It's a good middle- range English Programme school - some farangs but mostly Thai) I don't want to make things worse for my daughter though.
Has anyone else has run into this problem? And do you have any useful suggestions on how to deal with it. I will be very grateful for your insights.
[ Please see this Bangkok Post article....it's a serious problem in Thailand, as well as worldwide.]

Hello everyone,
My Thai daughter is likely to qualify for a passport in my home country.
I've read and heard different stories about the Thai & Thai Gov't attitude towards Thais with a second nationality/passport. I heard many years ago that this was not allowed by the Gov't and Thais had to give up their second nationality if they did not want to lose their right to live in Thailand. My friend's wife has dual nationality and has no problems using two passports.
There seem to be rumours of increasing prejuduce against Farangs....whether this is a consequence of Covid or just more talked about when the tourist business dried up...I have no idea. I once lived in Cornwall...and we locals did not like the rich folk from SE England at all...
So, any informed opinion or knowledge on this will be much appreciated. My questions really are:
Q1 if/when my daughter gets a second nationality....is that something we should keep secret ?
Q2 Are there any Thai laws that affect its citizens re dual nationality ?
Thanks a lot....

Some perspective: There are 30,000 Australian citizens trying desperately to return to their country ....without much support from Australia Government.
