Recently, my nine year old (luuk kreung....half-farang) Thai daughter has started to be 'picked-on' at school. She's coping, but it's not good for her and she intimated to me that she sometimes has to go to the toilets to have a cry, on her own (she doesn't want her antagonists to see her cry).I gather the bullying is quite frequent.
Picking-on her includes excluding her from the group, teasing, name calling and so on.As school bullying is an age old problem...I'm thinking that the school should have some strategies to address it. (I'm not an educator so I don't know about these things.) There's a lot of anti-bullying work being done in Australia at present.
So I thought I'd write to the head teacher and tell them it's happening and ask them if they have strategies to address it. (It's a good middle- range English Programme school - some farangs but mostly Thai) I don't want to make things worse for my daughter though.
Has anyone else has run into this problem? And do you have any useful suggestions on how to deal with it. I will be very grateful for your insights.
[ Please see this Bangkok Post article....it's a serious problem in Thailand, as well as worldwide.]

Hello everyone,
My Thai daughter is likely to qualify for a passport in my home country.
I've read and heard different stories about the Thai & Thai Gov't attitude towards Thais with a second nationality/passport. I heard many years ago that this was not allowed by the Gov't and Thais had to give up their second nationality if they did not want to lose their right to live in Thailand. My friend's wife has dual nationality and has no problems using two passports.
There seem to be rumours of increasing prejuduce against Farangs....whether this is a consequence of Covid or just more talked about when the tourist business dried up...I have no idea. I once lived in Cornwall...and we locals did not like the rich folk from SE England at all...
So, any informed opinion or knowledge on this will be much appreciated. My questions really are:
Q1 if/when my daughter gets a second nationality....is that something we should keep secret ?
Q2 Are there any Thai laws that affect its citizens re dual nationality ?
Thanks a lot....

Some perspective: There are 30,000 Australian citizens trying desperately to return to their country ....without much support from Australia Government.

How long before expiry apply extension.
I've seen mention of this, but couldn't find anything definitive.
How many days before expiry can you apply for a new extension of stay?
Are there any draw backs in applying early?
Is the O-A and marriage extension the same?
Any other hints and tips appreciated.
Thanks....

"Brief you wife 'a little bit' on your problem ... send her to Isuzu to see what she can gleam ..."
Yes...that is what I would have done, but for the fact Isuzu closed today (Songkran & Saturday) and I fly out tomorrow for a few weeks. And while I managed to find 'steering rack" in the wonderful Paiboon english-thai dictionary on my phone....I'm sceptical about A/c bits n pieces.
the important thing I got from some helpful people here was that it will be safe to leave until I get back....being an A/c problem and nothing critical....
Thanks Transam & Johng ...

Was the Dealership in Thailand or a Isuzu sign in a Botsawana Jungle.?. Sounds weird to me!. Isuzu dont leave you guessing.
No-one at the Dealership seemed to speak any English....in Rayong. They speak reasonable English in Botswana though....should I go there d'you think?

"Maybe the plastic bag is to stop condensation from the aircon pipe dripping onto those relays underneath ?"
Maybe....but it seems well secured as though it's been screwed-through or such like.
I didn't give it a good pull...the plastics so thin....but it doesn't seem like a loose "tie-on"....

Yes but doesn't cool very well....you think it's an A/c problem?

Please help ! Does anyone know what this "running repair" is ?
A bit of background first. My wife bought this 11 year old (2550) Isuzu Dmax 2.5 Diesel I-tech as settlement of some debt or other.
I took it into Isuzu dealership yesterday for its 200,000 km. All good, except they wanted to replace the battery and steering rack.
Then, they take us to the car and show us this....please see pics. Some kind of "running repair" with a plastic shopping bag.
Used as a make-do gasket or seal, I guess. But I really have no idea. And no idea what needs to be done to make a proper repair.
Can anyone tell from the pics what it is or what it might be? Urgent to fix ? Or anytime fix ok ?
Your advice more than welcome...thanks....

Thanks Crossy.... I checked... no nail... a bit of foil, so she'll be good!
I might give it a try next weekend then. I guess run the meter with and without - for a set number of hours and a known, steady draw....
It'll be interesting.... I'll report back....

Snake oil I'm afraid.
The theory is that you can improve your Power Factor by adding capacitance (the square black things). But, unless your PF is really, really bad, your meter will read your consumption just fine.
I seem to say this a lot, "not condoning illegal activity" but :-
Some older meters do get confused by heavily capacitive PFs and can slow down or even run backwards (equally they could run at double speed)
By all means try it (on an extension lead, outside the house), you may get lucky.
Thanks Crossy.... that explains why it worked at the demo I saw (in the market) 555... I checked all the power connections and there was no dodgy gizmo involved.
You say "By all means try it (on an extension lead, outside the house), you may get lucky."
You mean it really might catch on fire??
Yikes!!

Hi there,
I bought this a few years ago ... Please see attahed pics.
It's a Power Saver device and the demo I saw was quite convincincing. Havinv got it home, I put it in the cupboard and forgot about it. But with power prices rocketing I thought I might give it a try.
But I don't want to burn the house down! :
Does it work? Is it safe?
Thanks!

Thanks to Mugabe..... his survival and continued life made me realise that there is no God in this world.
Otherwise he'd have died of some sickness, assassination or road accident 20 or 30 years ago...
An evil man, Mugabe....

Hi,
My Mate's just settled in the outer suburbs of Chiang Mai... and I'll be following later.
I buy a lot of stuff from the internet. Mainly EBay, but also iHerb and other places.
I searched the Forum but didn't find a good answer to my question: What's Best annd What's Reliable for mail service for incoming deliveries.
I guess that options would include: Thai Postal Service to the home address, Thai Post Office Box, EMS Courier type services and I think that there are commercial organisations offerring some kind of PO Box arragement.
Your thoughts, experience and suggestions will be valued.
Thanks !

I'm not saying those are not nazi swastikas, I'm saying that to Thais they probably have no idea of the nazi connotations, just the Hindu/Buddhist ones.
Oh they know. It is easier for everyone to attribute the behaviour to lack of education, culture etc. The sad reality is that the prominent display of Nazi type symbols is intentional. The Thais who sell the Nazi style tshirts here on the Hua Hin beach area don't give a sh*t. They've been told off by German tourists repeatedly, and still sell the garbage.
Nobody likes the Germans... the British, French and Dutch don't. I know that for a fact. So it's not surprising if the Thais enjoy pis@ing them off as well !!

Dear BTW Retail... You need to know... that the Thai phrase 'Sawatdee' has the same Pali language root as 'Sawastika' - (this is a fact - research it)
It was only introduced to Thailand as a national initiative in the 1930's, if I remember correctly. (Just a timing coincidence?)
So when a pretty Thai girl says to you - 'Sawasdee Ka' - you need to know - that you are actually hearing 'Sawastika' !!!
(and that all Thais are secret Hitler-loving nazis on a special mission to cause all introspective, self centred, cultural self-superiorists, such as yourself, ....to make fools of themselves.)
Get a life and grow up.... or the other way around...

Hi... .
My mate and I are both planning to come and live in thailand. He'll leave early next year some time... me, a bit later.
We both have fairly standard situations, but need some sound, knowledgeable advice so we don't make a mistake that affects our tax / centrelink situations in an unnecessarily bad or stupid way. Both need to make sell or rent decisions on the houses we live in at present... both have some interest earning cash deposits (more if we sell houses before leaving)... both need whatever we can get from centrelink (old age pensions... we're not bludgers...).
If you know of a good (sound) financial Advisor in Brisbane, Australia (or somewhere else in Oz, who will consult by phone / email) I'd be most grateful for your help. Please PM me or post details.
Any other good advice welcome.
Thanks !

Domestic supply to 4.5kw appliance.
in The Electrical Forum
Posted
Hi there,
My wife wants to buy a large (industrial) dehydration machine. She's gone into the 'fish business' and relying on the sun at this time of year is problematic.
I've had a look on the internet at the machine she wants to buy. They are rated 3.5 to 4.5 Kw.
I know very little about electricity, but I'm pretty sure that a standard domestic power supply and socket will not safely supply this amount of power. (Although maybe large air-conditioning units use this much).
Am I right ? (It would be cheaper if I'm wrongl.
I guess we can get a local electrician to put in a new supply from the main switchboard and a heavy duty power socket. What would we need to specify if that's needed?
Any ideas about the approximate cost?
Thanks a lot for your help...
