  1. Immigration Department Inspection :o

Officials from Pattaya Immigration Department went out inspecting hotels, guest houses, and rooms for rent where tourists stay around South Pattaya in the evening of Thursday 26th July.

They wanted to make sure that after publicizing the residency notification rule, that everyone involved is respecting it. The rule dating back to 1979 is being repeated to inform all involved about tourists residing at their establishments within 24 hours via the new convenient Internet service. According to the law, foreigners staying over 90 days must register where they are staying in Thailand.

The obligation of landlords, apartment owners, proprietors and hotel managers is that once a foreign guest stays in their residence, this issue must be reported to immigration officers within 24 hours from the date residency is taken up. Failing to perform this duty; results in a penalty of 2,000 Baht. If a hotel manager fails to follow upon the act; a penalty ranges from 2,000 to 10,000 Baht.

Still does not make it clear - how does the guesthouse/hotel know if the alien has been in the country for more than 90 days? Does this no make it defacto every alien?

  2. goodbye.jpg

I'm really sorry you are leaving as you have had a great input into this forum.

As regards my friends and I , unfortunitly I don't have any friends here.

Would you like to be my friend?

    What does this mean?

  3. True. And when applied to the unprotected sex in the pay for sex trade (which often includes the indirect pay for sex trade: sponsorship from overseas, sex for land, sex for green cards, sex for paying his/her way through beauty school, and so forth), it's probably irrelevant anyway - in that the whatever odds that appear to be in your favor are likely quickly reversed by the sheer volume of sex partners ... and their sex partners, their partners who are sharing needles, customers, brothers, etc.

    :o

You seem to imply that everyone here is a prostitute or drug user in one way or another.

Not at all. Only that there are fewer degrees of separation between prostitutes + IV drug users and the mainstream population. It's arguable that for many foreigners, there are even fewer degrees of separation. And again, that's not a bash, it's just an opinion ...before someone comes back with... "no! Thais got the fewest degrees of separation, buster!" No kidding. It's not a contest, it's a discussion.

    :D

So do you mean, for instance, that if you propositioned a convenience store worker with 2000 baht, she would be more likely to go with you than a western woman offered an equivelant sum (scaled up to the appropriate amount)? Or have I misunderstood you?

  4. As a member of TV that believes this site is at its best when giving out informed information and advice, and hence a place where people expect to find reliable advice I'd like to see the mods close this thread on the grounds that it is providing missleading information on a crittical health issue.

I think it's better to respond to the misleading claims. Keep the thread up at the top of the page and fill it with useful information.

Some people do seem to be developing a measure of complacency now that better drugs are available. Let's take the opportunity to challenge that attitude.

Agreed. Better to have quotes from and links to actual medical advice that can show dee123's obsession for taking risks for what they are. Risks.

  5. No, this is for those who stay here longer than 90 days, they always have had to report in every 90 days. Stupid rule, it ought to suffice that you report your address when you move in and again when you move out, but no, that's not enough, they have to inconvenience us to go to their little paper tiger domain so they can treat you like dirt every 3 months. :o

Are you sure? It looks like (from the above forms, plus the declaration when arriving on a 30-day visa waiver) it applies to all aliens.

  6. Why not open box at Thai Post office. I did and only required passport and current address in Bangkok. Cost is less than 200 baht a year.

If you want Mail Box Etc. I think one is located at On Nut BTS just inside the door of Lotus on the same level as BTS platform. I've seen others but do not remember where.

I need a Bangkok address, but would need a service to forward to mail. I used MBE before, they were OK but a bit pricey, I guess there really isn't anything else out there is there? (Like some Mom and Pop mail forwarding operation).

There is a one-man-band guy in Pratunam Centre. 5 minutes walk from Chitlom station. If you are interested, I can post his details next time I am over there..

  7. I was told yesterday by a Thai Business that they will no longer take Paypal because the current rate was quoted at 22 baht per dollar. The source is reliable but maybe someone can check this out and comment who uses paypal.

I'd say it's BS as XE are currently quoting over 30 (29.9 yesterday).

I say he has got the wrong dollar. AUS perhaps?

You seem to imply that everyone here is a prostitute or drug user in one way or another.

  9. A European hetrosexual male who does not practise anal sex .what are the odds of him dying of aids?

Dying...almost nil. Thank the drug companies. As for actually contracting HIV subtype E (one of the most easiest to contract and Thailand's most predominant strain) and having to spend the rest of your life taking drug cocktails every single day, risking infecting others with every sexual encounter and medical procedure... including going to the dentist, pretty good odds.

    :o

    Not entirely correct:

'Whether there are biological causes for the observed differences in transmission routes remains the subject of debate. Some scientists, such as Dr Max Essex of Harvard, believe such causes do exist. Among their claims are that subtype C and CRF A/E are transmitted much more efficiently during heterosexual sex than subtype B.89 However, this theory has not been conclusively proven.1011'

    From:

    http://www.avert.org/hivtypes.htm

So, this assertion of yours in simply a claim, yet unproven.

  10. It worked out to about 160 bht in weight as I recall split into various rings, bracelets, necklaces and bars from 1bht to 10 bht. Volume worked out to about 50 items.Very easy to do and kept the designs very clean & simple for resale.

Sorry for being thick, but what was the weight in kg and volume with regards to, say putting in your hand luggage.

Also on the point from another poster, if you circumvent currency controls, surely you are not breaking any law?

  11. Here's how I did it with just over 1,750,000 bht. The only catch is I left the country to visit the UK so rules out bank transfers.

Trotted off to chinatown, went into the no 1 gold shop and spent the lot on gold jewellery and bars, Given the quality and high % of the gold it was no problem liquidating it in the UK. In fact I made a tidy profit because of the quality.

If I were living in LOS now i'd still spend some of it on gold there and just hang on to it. but 4m bht is a lot. As it's in bht you could purchase some shares or dabble in the money markets. In the meantime pop into HSBC or another international bank and see what they can do for you.

How big a volume/weight did this take up?

  12. Maybe the guy is trying to go straight and just run a restaurant, but the people who hold his past against him and boycott his business make it impossible. :o

If he is trying to go straight why not sell the bars and give back the stolen Aussie pensioners' money?

You're having a larf if you think any of these scumbags will ever make amens or be brought to justice for their despicable criminal actions.

Remember all the swindled Australian pensioners when you are wolfing down that full English.

I knew someone that claimed he used the pub itself for 'boiler room' investments in the movie industry. Something to do with Irish Nationalists or something. He was/is a Hollywood Producer of some sort...
