Been less busy post-covid.  The clinic was closed for a long time during the pandemic.  I've visited a couple of times since they re-opened & not so long a wait in the morning.

He's only open a couple of hours a day now. Best to call and ask the hours before visiting. He's close to retirement. I gave a friend a lift there recently.

  2. I'm interested in doing this border bounce as I'm getting a little tired of going to Chiang Khong. And the last time I went there was a very long detour because the road construction on the last leg of the road to CK was flooded from all the rain. I need to bounce this Sunday or next Monday the 30th.

Perhaps I'm not googling with the correct terms or something but I can't find anything about doing a border bounce there (exactly where to go to get the proper map route, where to park, where exactly the Thai Immigration checkpoint is, hours of operation and so forth).

Also I just read that there are 4 border checkpoints. Which is the correct place to go?

Could anyone share any web links that gives some information?

Thank you very much in advance.

Thanks...anything more specific I can search for?

A general search unearths place in India and far away lands, which won't work for me. Facebook searches are not that great anyway.

I'm sorry, I couldn't find the card and I forget where it was located. I think it was off of Chang Klan but can't remember where. Have you searched in Bangkok? There are many places there that will do it for you.

There are tons of places that do this in the states, so it may be worth sending it overseas.

I found a small micro-cassette tape of my deceased wife practicing Spanish and had it converted to a CD for myself and her relatives. $20 per CD.

Amazon USA also sells (or sold) a duel VCR/CD machine which could dupe your cassette.

There are many places in Bangkok that do this. Much closer.....

I only have the tape - haven't had a player for a long time.

It's just one tape I want to convert to DVD, and it will be infinitely better to have someone do it than to get into it myself. A little expense is tolerable.

Anyone know a shop in Chiang Mai?

There is one shop left that offers this service. You will have to search on facebook for them as they don't advertise anywhere else. I wish I could be more helpful. If I can find their card and FB page, I will update this post.

This is from 2018. Not sure if still valid, from another posting here    Panthip Plaza 3rd? Floor. 053-217949, 08-9191-4110

But be advised that they are VERY expensive. I took a a few (4) VHS cassettes over to be transferred to DVD and the guy wanted 6K Baht. He says he has to disassemble the cassettes and clean the mold off the tape before he will use them in his machines. He said it takes him minimum 3-4 hours per cassette. He would not negotiate. I've passed by 20 times and never seen a customer in there. So a few weeks later I asked a Thai friend to inquire and see what kind of price he would be quoted. He was quoted more - 6200 Baht (that should dispel an theory that farangs get charged more.) My friend also said that he would not negotiate the price and that he told him that he is the only person in Chiang Mai that offers this service because "nobody else knew what they were doing and they have all gone out of business."

I checked with a friend in Bangkok who is quite knowledgeable and he told me that the price is correct to do the job properly. He said all video cassettes in Thailand will have mold if not stored individually in zip lock bags with silica gel inside. Heads are getting harder to find to keep the old machines running. Another in bangkok.............https://web.facebook.com/digital.station.bangkok/?_rdc=1&_rdr

That place went out of business a year before Covid.

  7. Fly to Khon Kaen - trust me this is the best option. I've done it a few times. Very easy, KK airport is very comfortable. Grab a room and wait for the bus that leaves in the middle of the night (there is only one bus per day from KK to Mukdahan and it is extremely comfortable). DON'T take the minivan that leaves every couple of hours. The vans are in very bad condition, the drivers drive very dangerously, A/C doesn't work, seats are oversold, etc. and the drive from KK to Mukdahan is by far the worst I have ever encountered anywhere in Thailand. At least on the bus you can sleep.

So two say pay 1800 Baht and no visa but Sticky says he got a visa when he paid the 1800.

    Are all three correct?

Glad I went to Singapore, nothing to pay at immigration and no entry or exit stamp in my passport plus terrific Iranian food.

Number 2 on the list is 100% wrong. I've been 4 times in the last few months. 1800 includes the visa WHICH IS MANDATORY. It was 1500 in December/January and you paid at the bank in the back.  Now you pay the IO directly and it's 1800.

Siripanna near Gymkhana Golf Club had a good buffet for 399 baht pre-Covid, alcohol purchased separately. Thai food, cake and ice-cream dessert.

The other one I recall is a German buffet, Auf Der Au off Lamphun Road. 299 baht, heavy on German sausages and pork.

Siripanna has gone downhill in a big way. Auf der Au is fantastic.

did you drive yourself?   could I do it on a motorbike or bus from CR?   cost of laos visa?

need to show money or onward tix?     man i hate wasting money on  a useless laos visa...

He/she is confused and is talking about Golden Triangle to Laos SEZ by boat. You can drive to Chiang Khong in roughly the same time it takes to drive to Mae Sai - maybe 30 minutes longer. I don't know about CR, but you can catch a bus at Arcade at 9:30 A.M. to Chiang Khong. Arrives at 16:30. Tuk tuk to Immigration 50 Baht. Bus over Friendship Bridge 25 Baht each way. Laos visa cost fluctuates day to day. 1500-2000 Baht. You can stay in Huay Xai or in Chiang Khong. Lots of cheap options for food and accommodation on either side. I don't know about showing onward ticket. What kind of visa do you have?

I did Huay Xai in March.

You stamp out of Immigration.  Take a boat across the river.  Get a Laos visa.  Make a U turn, stamp out of Laos.  Take a boat back across the river to Thailand. Maybe 5 minutes to cross the river.  Go through Immigration in Thailand.

They gave me 45 days after some questions.

Oh, if you're really up for adventure, there's high rise hotels and casinos on the Laos side built by Chinese mafia, where they're supposedly running human trafficking of underaged girls, drugs and endangered wildlife, so there's where the party is at (if you speak Chinese, presumably).

    Good luck. ????

That's not Huay Xai. You are referring to Chiang Saen. Altogether different.
