  1. i have a dear friend in krabi whose grandfather lived to over 100. people in his village commonly live to around 120yrs old!

    amazing thailand.

    No they don't.

That would make them all the oldest living people in the world, there have only ever been 2 documented cases of people living to over 120 years of age. The oldest person in the world currently is around 115 years old.

  2. I work with a 100% bangladesh guy but he's from UK and cool is hel_l, yes he's indian, and yes he has the british accent down pat, give the brother a break? isnt it the mind that matters here? mangnum cum laude, mind over matter. dont judge a book by its cover.

Very different kettle of fish, is your friend British?

A lot of my friends growing up where from Indian decent, but being born in the UK and having been brought up there are British.

  3. Actually, my husband has said the same thing as Ave. Perhaps it is in more rural families, but meal times that are not social events are pretty quiet. I remember when I first got married, eating with his parents, everyone was dead silent. My husband is now used to me chattering away during our meals but doesn't add much. He prefers to finish his meal and then talk. So, it works out ok.

He did point out that Thai food is often so spicy that if you slowed down to talk you might not be able to finish as the spiciness catches up to you pretty quick. :o

Most guys don't speak when they are eating, unless its a specific social gathering. Eating solves a problem, being hungry, so its solved as simply and quickly as possible. Go to any fast food place and observe guys eating with other guys, its straight down to business.

  4. Still don't think it's cultural, men prefer to think through things on their own, and work out solutions - whilst women like to talk them over. Men look for a solution and ladies look for analysis and discussion of the problem, without a view to necessarily 'solving it'.

There are no 'benefits' in talking about it, unless it leads to a direct solution in a mans mind.

If you have a problem with a colleague or friend, then its a problem to solve. talking about it to him isn't going to make your relationship with the other person better.

I often get this with my wife, who is Thai. We can spend the whole day discussing things, and at the end of the day she can still sometimes say to me "we never seem to talk anymore" even after 3-4 hours of straight discussion.

Simply put, mens talking is different to womens talking, thats what your girlfriends are for - and why there are such words as 'gossip' and 'natter'

  5. Send him three different size chilli's.

Mouse Shit chilli's - Tiny little ones

    Medium Chillis

Large Chillis - nearly half the size of jalapeno's

You can tell which sort they are by teh fact that ripe chillis are red, so send small red, medium red, and large red chilli's or their green siblings. Chilli's are farily easy to grow here in the trpics, don't know about elsewhere.

  6. I've recently moved back to the UK and I'm changing the Thai plugs to UK three pin plugs. The wires in the thai appliances seem to have one grey wire and a black wire. Normally in the UK the black wire is the neutral wire.

Is this the case in Thailand too? I know that colours can vary from country to country... could someone confirm?

    Thanks :o

You don't mention what the appliances are, but when you consider a Thai 2 pin plug can be inserted either way into a socket, the polarity of the wires shouldn't be of importance to the operation. The omission of a ground connection also suggests the equipment is screened, so a shock hazard shouldn't be present.

    geoffphuket

    I wouldn't count on this

  7. Well I don't know about the racey heart but my brother in law has developed this pingpong ball size growth on his abdomen which he believes in from overeating MSG.

Anyway it's enough to turn me off on that stuff.

How on Earth would he know its from eating MSG (a naturally occuring substance), I've never heard such rubbish.

  8. My experiences at Bangkok Phuket have been great.

The wife gave birth there two years ago and the whole experience was very good.

I also had to go for a very personal reason earlier this year and found them to have knowledgable and courteous staff that time as well.

However farangs are generally charged more than Thais.

Personally I like the system, I can go at anytime I want to the hospital and get seen within say 20 minutes, be out within the hour and the cost is not much more than just a few prescription tablets from the UK.

  9. No offense mate, but you got her pregnant so deal with it - Obviously if the child is yours you must make sure that they have every advantage in life they can by registering them properly and making passport applications etc...

What's the difference if she can claim child support or not?, if its your child you should be paying for the upbringing regardless of who the mother is. Even if she's the most evil mastermind in the world, its still your kid. The 'consequences' and 'suffering' you may have to endure by 'doing the right thing' is inconsequential.

Don't get all angry at me because you messed up.

If you want legal advice then I suggest you go to a lawyer.

  10. They are either off their collective trolleys by shutting down the entire country at the busiest time of the year. How many million tourist will be grumbling round in the evenings looking at closed bars?

Yes, because thats the important thing here, that tourists/expats can still get drunk.

  11. I think it's just some men in general, I can't think of anything worse after a long days working hard and then having to hear about the wifes day TBH.

Have you tried engaging him in (and actually being interested in) something close to his heart, a hobby etc...

What language are you talking in, and what are the respective fluency levels?

  12. You don't have any collateral, the land title is not in your possession - you are borrowing some grassland or whatever for x years. How would the bank even know if the chanote or other title was even legal, unencumbered etc....

Instead of jumping down people's throats when you don't like what you hear, why don't you go and see a Bank or an expert and pay for professional advice, like everyone else.

  13. Now, judge them fairly. Does this sound like a family where the Dad would beat his youngest son to death, and the mother would do nothing? I am sorry, I know I am getting a little too emotional here, but this families life has been destroyed.

The most important point is that a little boy has died,, I feel sorry for the family members if they are not involved, however they had arrested the step-father and looks like they will be charging him (unless any new news?) irrespective of his actions previously or after.

Absolutely no reason for a grown man to use any weapon to strike a young child.

I can't help thinking that there's an angle to your post, I don't see why it's important that they ran to school and back doing Maths (sounds a bit weird in itself to me), or that he had a career in Singapore, or that they have x amount of photo albums.

  14. If it's multi-room audio that is the main feature, there's a lot of systems out there designed just for that purpose that are much better suited and cheaper, Check out Sonos for example, I personally use and sell this product and its light years ahead of anything else on teh market.

  15. where would you go in your home country?

I'm sure just about EVERY hospital and health clinic can offer this, its a pretty silly question.

Besides it obviously is a ""i've had too much fun while in thailand and now i need to figure out if i caught anything" else why would you need emergency testing?
