  1. Whatever's left in the fridge from last night, or whatever my wife gets from the market (100m away). Today, yesterday's Thai street kebabs.
  2. I have that, but I still took out health insurance as I think that it'll be brought in line with the Non-O A at some point and as I get older it'll be more and more difficult to take out a new policy. I've heard nothing about this happening, it just feels likely to me, there's no real reason for the Non-O and Non-O A to be different.
  3. If you have the money, this is probably right. If you have the money.
  4. In little words; They. Are. Homeless. Because You. Closed. The. Places. They. Were. Working. At. So. They. Have. No. Money.
  5. Bottled, Tiger. But if there's Asahi draught, I go that way. I've never had a bad glass of Asahi, which is more than I can say for other draught beers.
  6. Sorry, but I don't believe this. 30 years ago, yes. 20 years ago, yes. 10 years ago, maybe. These days when they all have smartphones, no. They had to know what their job was going to be.
  7. Certificate on Mor Phrom shows 1 x AZ, 2 x Pfizer. The AZ was in Bangkok and I didn't want the trip again. The other 2 ware local.
  8. Even if they never intend to visit a bar, why would a tourist want to go to a place where that isn't allowed? As a tourist, I certainly wouldn't, the whole "vibe" is gone. Also, the sort of regime that does that sort of thing doesn't bode well for other, seemingly capricious, restrictions appearing at short notice. Scary.
  9. I'll make the usual comment; we will get some returning expats and some business people. Tourists, apart from a few who haven't done their homework, won't come in any numbers until the bars are open. Tourists may say that they come for the Wat's and the beaches. Tourists lie.
  10. The type of people they want to attract won't be swayed by a tax cut. They won't put up with all the petty rules and regulations.
  11. If you go the lawyer route, your troubles may not be limited to immigration. Annoy or scare them enough and physical things could happen - and they know where you live! I think you're stuck with paying or moving provinces here.
  12. Perhaps he had a puncture and was keeping the tyre off the road for safety until he could get it fixed. ????
  13. I've had bikes for most of my adult life. I've not yet felt the need to modify an exhaust for the noise. For power yes, but not just for noise. Young Thai males are stupid about this IMO.
  14. I'm in a city and there's often a bang and a power cut when a transformer blows during rain. It gets fixed quickly though. A retired UK electricity worker told me that a lot of the components used here wouldn't be certified for outdoor use in the west. He spent a lot of his life up poles and should know what he's talking about.
  15. I won't come before I can walk into a bar and buy a beer. Shame that I'm here already. ????
  16. It's almost certain that the hero will be an American teenager, played by an actor who is really about 35.
  17. ubonjoe is the expert of course. What I did was; Get a 60 day tourist visa at home. Once here, put ฿800,000 in a Thai bank immediately - make sure the bank knows it's for visa purposes as not all accounts are acceptable. When the 60 days are nearly up, get a 30 day extension at immigration. As soon as your money has been in the bank for 2 months, apply for an extension based on retirement at immigration. That should be that, just leave the money in the bank alone, comply with all the reporting you have to do throughout the year; 90 day, when you move home, etc, etc. and all will be simple next year. An extension based on marriage needs only ฿400,000 in the bank, but seems to be a real pain to get and renew. I'm legally married to a Thai, but stick with retirement as it's simple to maintain. On retirement, you can use some of the money during the year, but then you have to top it up again for next year. IMO, get 2 accounts, one for visa, one for living, then ignore the visa one. Open to correction if I'm wrong about anything, I've gone through this for precisely one person, me! ????
