Hey all,
My fiancee and I have been in Thailand (Chiang Mai) for 6 months now and did 3 entry stamps, then followed it up with a single entry from Vientiane and a 1 month extension. We are planning our wedding in February on Koh Samui and want to ensure we have no visa problems this late in the game. What are our best options??? After the wedding we hope to continue living here. (We are both American)
Thank you in advance for your help.

1. Visa extensions are dealt with by the local immigration offices.
You can check with them to see if they will give you a 30 day extension.
The Chiang Mai office will be fine.
2. If you are planning to visit Angkor Wat, then you will also need a re-entry permit to keep your visa alive
whilst you are in Cambodia
3. I am not aware of a Thai consulate in Siam Riep, where Angkor Wat is located, but I might be wrong.
So you will not be able to get a visa there.
It is a pity that you did not get a double-entry Tourist visa, then life would have been much easier for your plans.
Laos wouldn't issue us double-entry visas unfortunately. Thank you for your guidance.

Yes.
Do you have a map for the Chiang Mai immigration office and if my 60 day TR doesn't expire until Nov 9th can I still get the extension now? And will it become active when my current one expires or does it become active immediately and overlap my current visa?

Hi all,
Thanks for your help on my last visa issue, here's another question. My girlfriend and I have a single entry tourist visa (TR) that is expiring on november 9th. We are American, live in CHiang Mai and wanted to apply for the 30 day extension, but were told by a friend that the law has recently changed and they are no longer issuing these 1900 baht extensions. we have already gotten our 3 entry stamps before going to Vientiane for the visa so we can not simply do a border cross because it has not been 6 months. Also, where and how do we go about trying to get an extension? Can we attempt it Chiang mai or do we have to go to Bangkok? And, my father is visiting for the month of November and we are planning to spend a week at Angkor Wat should we go there first and I can try to get another single entry visa there or will it be better to take of this issue first? I want my father's first time in Thailand to be special and not spent in visa office's and dealing with these matters.
Thank you,
Matthew

my flight from Bankok to my home is 1 day after my tourist visa ends, (couldnt get anything better).
what kind of trouble i can expect at the airport?? ,a fee?, an arrest?

The application asks for a name, address and telephone of a local guarantor. is this necessary?

Question #2
If you're already buying plane tickets, why not just
fly straight to Vientiane, the easiest way.
----------------------------------------------------------------
It's really cheap to fly into to Udon thani and i think we can take a bus to the friendship bridge then a tuk tuk or songtaew once across. Just wanted some verification on that.

My Fiance and I plan on flying into Udon thani and heading to Vientiane on Friday the 7th of September. Are the visa offices open on the weekend? and what is the best way to get to Vientiane from Udon Thani? Thank you in advance for your help.

The NGO can not issue a visa - you/she would have to obtain with the paperwork they provide. You should be able to obtain a visa to visit your wife and if she obtains one year extensions of stay you would be able to obtain also.
Thank you, again.
When you say a visa to visit your wife, are there restrictions on how long the visits are? do they coincide with the length of her staY?

ANother concern; If I apply for a student(ed) visa with an acceptance letter from a thai language school but don't get approved will I then be able to apply for a tourist visa? or will they just nix it?

Are the stories of not being able to renew a single entry visa true? or will it be likely that we won't have a problem.
Also, my wife to be is( also a US citizen) is considering applying for an NGO or teaching position. If she gets a job will they issue a visa for her spouse as well?

We came from Nepal and planned on traveling more that's why we were unprepared. But the vote of confidence in Lopburi is helpful.

Vientiane is currently one of the best places to obtain a tourist visa (single entry). Do not believe you will find any Consulate in the area willing to provide more than single entry.
This is a concern for us because we heard that there have been people that have not been issued another single entry or told they must wait a few months before re-entering the country. As we are planning our wedding for Febuary and have people flying in from the U.S. this would be a serious problem if we were not able to be here for january and febuary to prepare and attend our own wedding!!

It sounds as though you might qualify for an Education Visa.
Ask the school where you study Thai is they can issue a letter to support the application.
We haven't started studying yet because we wanted to solidify our visa issues, but that is definitely something i will look into today, thank you.

Hi All,
Thank you in advance for all your help and time in creating this most valuable resource. My partner and I have just gotten our 3rd entry stamp up in Mae Sot and were told we could not get another for 3 months. We are currently based in Chiang Mai and wanted to stay for at least another 6 months taking courses in Thai, Tefl and meditation... We were told by many that a tourist visa is our next step, but Vientienne is not the ideal place to acquire one. We heard that they are not giving multiple entry visas and the not happy about all the people trying to attain visas there. Someone suggested going to Yangon, where they may be more generous, and it is a place we have wanted to visit anyway. Is Penang a better option or would Yangon be ok? Also, it is of great importance to us to get the multiple entry because we have a family member visiting in November and we are planning our wedding for the islands in Febuary. Also, what kind of paperwork and requirements will we need? Is carrying 20,000 Baht each necessary? ANd should we fill out the forms before arriving, or get them at the office there?
Thank you again!!
