  1. I bought a name brand computer here in thai at a large IT center. It came bundled with some software but they didnt give me any of the orginal operating discs. does this sound like standard proceedure. Its older software not the Vista or anything. If I bring this computer to the usa am I going to have any trouble with customs?

  2. Gold is up and so are the entire inventories of these gold shops. Gold shops have seen their inventorys triple in value over the last 5 years or so. These shops are riding a wave and they are all popin the corks. we should all be so lucky to have our wealth triple in a few short years (not counting what they made day to day on the buy/sells) Just go into a gold shop and ask the owner how is business------just read his face and you will understand. they can't hide their smiles.

  3. I bought a computer here in Thailand and I will soon leave from the airport but wiii return in 7 to 10 months. I have heard I should register my computer with Thai customs agents at the airport so I dont have to pay duty on it when I bring it back into the country later. Can anyone tell me if this proceedure is worthwhile and is it difficult or time consuming. the cost of the laptop was 17,000 bht or a little over $500 US dollars.

  4. did it about 2 weeks ago . no probs to pay with USD at all at the Laos immigration booths on far side of bridge. change your baht into US dollars at the market in Nong Khai - the big one along the river. There's a jewellery shop which advertises 'money changer' .

You may or may not save money doin in USD depending on your nationality; Laos visa is now $ 35 for most , $ 30 for Aussies , $42 for canadians . I'm assuming the THB cost is still 1,000.

    Hope this helps

Thanks that will help--Im told the Thai Baht charge is now 1,500 Baht

  5. Does anyone know where I can exchange Thai Baht for US dollars in Nong Khai or near the Friendship Bridge as I have heard that the Laos Immigration does not make change for US Dollars and I only have one hundred dollar US bills. If the entrance visa fee is only $30 I need some small bills

Are you in Nong Khai now ?

Why not get your C-note changed into smaller bills at a bank or a money changer ? You can purchase dollars with baht too.

Then you can pay for your visa stamp with green money.

will be in Nong Khai tomorrow. Is it easy there to exchange Baht for Dollars? Do you know who would do it? Im in Khorat now and its hard to find US dollars here--all the banks post exchange rates but they only buy US dollars they rarely sell them. Have not seen any money changers here in Khorat but you say there are some in Nong Khai?

  6. Might not be easy up there. Immigration can make change (I've seen US falang hand over US$) but you may get change in baht or kip (bring a suitcase!) and a poor exchange rate to boot.

Why not use an ATM and get some baht to pay with?

If you pay with 1500 Baht you pay about $50 with the US exchange rate---If you pay with USD you pay only $35--would rather save the money myself than give it to Laos Government

  7. I did pay in USD once, and was given change in USD, most times I paid with baht, and got change in baht.

It's not twice the amount by the way. A visa on arrival is 35 USD in my case, or 1500 baht. Not twice the amount, even though, paying in USD does save a small amount of money.

I am told its now 1900 Baht which is over $60 US dollars so its almost double the $35 fee in US Dollars

  8. I am planning to go to Vientiane Monday and I read that for Visa on arrival at the friendship bridge that Laos Immigration will not give change. I only have US dollars $100 bills. If I pay with Thai Baht its twice the cost. does anyone know if they do give change or if there is anywhere in Nong Khai where I can buy some US Dollars in small denominations on a Monday morning.

Wrong, I went there 4 month ago, they give change, as long as you pay in Baths or US $. Change is given in Thai Bath.

I could invite you to go in Ze Rangsit, they have banks open the week end in the mall, change there some green banks for thai Bhts

did you give them Thai Baht or US dollars?

  10. ...did immigration stick it to me?

No, but the Thai embassy that issued the visa stuck it to you. Normally, a triple-entry tourist visa would be valid for 6 months. When you submitted your visa application, did you indicate the three planned entry dates into Thailand or otherwise give the consulate information about your travel itinerary?

    Maestro

I guess the consulate stuck it to me as they had my itinerary which showed 6 months

  11. I got a three entry "TR" visa from the USA on Nov 26,2007 and entered BKK on dec 13, after 2 months I left and returned again and entered BKK on Feb 14, 2008 after another 2 months I left and came back to BKK to use my third entry on April 13th and was told that the Visa had to be utilized before February 25,2008--the immigration officer drew a couple of lines through my visa and then stamped my passport for a 30 day entry rather than the 60 days my visa would have entitled me to receive. It seems like something is wrong as I got a three entry visa each entry good for two months but it does say on the visa that it has to be utilized before February 25, 2008 which is only 3 months after it was issued. what did I do wrong or did immigration stick it to me?

  12. After dozens of meet & greets I've found it easiest to choose a level and a door to arrange a meet. There are ten (10) doors on levels 1,2 & 4, numbered from one to ten, left to right if outside facing the entrance. Since Arrivals and taxis are both on level 2 I usually choose "level 2, door #4" (more or less in the middle of the trerminal and between exits B & C both of which are used for international arrivals), outside of which is one of the official metered taxi stands. You can of course choose any level or door number.

Thanks. Sounds easy. Do you know where door 4 goes? does it have any other name? none of the airport maps Ive found list door numbers or even exits B & C.

  13. After getting off an international flight where is a good place to meet local Thai wait for you at Suvamabhumi airport?

The meeting area is on level 3 (floor between departure and arrivals). It's also the floor that connects to the parking

with a walkway. Further plans at : http://www.airportthai.co.th/airportnew/sun/map3.asp?lang=en.

    Hope to have helped

    onzestan

that does help thank you----any idea how to find out what shop or restaurant is on each side of this meeting area??

    thanks again

  14. I just did a triple entry visa 2 months ago I sent them a bank statement. You need to show a small amount I think about 480.00 usd That was thru the Royal Thai Consulate Portland Oregon
Mikemellow, I suggest that you follow the advice you were given here:
...Check with your nearest Thai Honorary Consulate.

You see, different consulates have different requirements and nobody can give a definite answer to you question.
