  1. I'm interested in buying a bike from a secondhand shop. They said the green book wasn't available for transfer for 45 days. My understanding is that it's to do with finance on the bike, so maybe this has been repossessed? Of course, they said it's not a problem but I want to be absolutely certain that I'm not going to have difficulties with the transfer. Has anyone encountered this situation and how can I be certain that there is a green book? The guy told me I could drive it away today but I don't believe anything from these people. 

  2. I've just completed my address re-registration. Firstly, I couldn't get the 10 Baht stamps for the POA at the post office, stationers or book shop. In the end, I had to go to the local tax office. Secondly, I didn't get fined despite being late with re-registering. I was under the impression it had to be done within 24 hours of returning to Thailand. All in all, what a pleasant waste of a whole day.

I made my landlord complete all of the forms since I was saving her the hassle of going to immigration to register me.

     

    I did notice that there is now a huge placard on the wall at immigration with regarding the TM30 form and how foreigners have to have their residence certified.

    The POA form just needs to be completed by the landlord and a 10 baht stamp attached? Just wondering if there's any others surprises or officialdom on my next visit.

    Phuket now asking for copies of owners ID card, house registration book, rental contract, passport and visa pages, and letter of power of attorney (assuming your landlord doesn't want to go to immigration). I was told that if you leave the country 10 times in a month then repeat this process 10 times. Phuket has obviously had enough of farangs living here.

    When you did your extension, how many months bank records were needed? When I made the original application last year I did 12 months but the bank charged more for this. Also, do you need to to another silly hand drawn map of your home and pose for a photo outside?

  6. Confused by all the contradictory and changing requirements for registering my address. I returned 1 week ago from an overseas trip. Am I meant to re-register my address, even though nothing has changed? What exactly do I need to take? I'm here on a retirement visa.

  7. Just returned from Phuket Town office. The address registration and 90 day report were completed efficiently by one officer in 10 mins. The landlord does not need to be There. they did explain that if you leave the country you need to re-register your address each time. The foreign volunteer staff could be more helpful.

     

    I witnessed several unhappy foreigners at Patong. Not just the registration problem. They seem to be creating difficulties to give people the runaround. One guy was told to visit the police station, whilst another was told to go back to the airport for some reason. Different rules and very rude staff. Lots of irate people and doors slamming.

     

    Avoid Patong immigration office!

    I understand that as I've completed this process before. Usually, it needs the correct documentation which I submit to immigration. I've never been told to bring the landlord. So, I'm trying to find out if different offices have different procedures?

  9. Went to Patong immigration for a 90 day report, based on my retirement visa. My paper work was checked and was given a queue number. Immigration officer then told me to do another address registration - this despite all the paper work needed just 6 months earlier for my visa. I had also completed this registration last year but he mumbled something about it not being valid now. I got my landlord to give me a copy of his ID, house registration and room contract. I went back to Patong and the registration officer said the owner needs to attend also. 

     

    I asked for clarification but he just waved me away and refused to speak to me. Nobody else would help. I get the impression I'm not the first to experience this. I've never had to ask my landlord to visit immigration with me. What's changed? Is this a new rule? Is it specific to Patong office? Is it the same at Phuket Town office? What happens if I try to to do the postal 90 day report? Patong office is a complete joke; disorganised, rude and unhelpful. I've never had such problems in 13 years. Any advice is appreciated, particularly if it avoids trying to get my landlord to travel to the immigration office.

  10. Currently in the process of getting a retirement (long stay) visa. I have an "O" visa which I obtained in Phuket on 28 March, after converting from a tourist visa. It expires on 25th June. My problem is that I will be out of the country from 13 June to 4 July. I'm just trying to find out what options I have for extending to the full retirement visa. I understand I can apply 30 days before expiry. This would leave a couple of weeks before I go overseas. Is this long enough to get the new visa?

  11. Just returned from my trip to Vientiane and I was also refused the non-imm visa. I was handed a form stating that I also needed to show police clearance and a medical certificate. No amount of protesting would change their minds. I came away with another tourist visa which I'm now investigating how to change to the required visa.

     

    From what I understand, this doesn't need either the police clearance or medical certificate. However, something I'm not quite clear about is exactly what they require for proof of savings. This is from the immigration website;

     

    5.1 A guarantee letter from the bank in Thailand in Thai language (Attention: Immigration Commissioner)*
    5.2 A copy of all entries of the applicant’s passbook showing that the applicant has a savings or fixed deposit account of not less than Baht 800,000* (all documents must be in the Applicant’s name).
    5.3 Evidence of foreign currency fund transferred to Thailand*
    *(Documents under 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 must be issued and updated to be the same date of the Application and all documents must be in the Applicant’s name.)
     

    I brought the funds into the country last March in preparation but the last point says all of these documents must show the same date as the application. Does this mean they won't accept them?

  12. Looking for clarification on the documents required for a non-o visa in Vientiane. I would then convert to retirement visa once back in Thailand. Someone mentioned that they only gave proof of address and copy of bank book. However, the Embassy website states this;
    1. Curriculum Vitae 
    2. Official letter from the concerned Embassy/Consulate certifying the monthly income of at least 
        65,000 Baht 
        or Official letter from the Bank in Thailand certifying a valid account of at least 800,000 Baht, 
        and is being held at least 3 months before visa application. 
    3. Recent Police clearance or equivalent reference of no criminal conviction 
    4. Medical certificate

    I thought the bank letter was only required when converting in Thailand and the police clearance/medical certificate weren't needed.

    Curriculum Vitae? First I've heard of that!

    Can anyone shed any light?

  13. I just got back from another branch - one of the staff gave me completely inaccurate information so I asked to speak to the call centre. She said the bank charges 0.25% up to a maximum of 500 Baht. On top of this, there is another fee because the money has to be received by the Bangkok office and then credited to the Phuket account. This is just over 1000 Baht for a 1 million transfer.

    No idea why a bank makes charges when sending to it's own branch in a different province. Maybe they deliver it personally.

  14. I need to bring in money from a European bank to SCB in Phuket for a retirement visa. I'm trying to find out the exact costs. From information I've seen on here, the bank charges a receiving fee which in this case would be 500 Baht. The part that I'm unsure about is the extra fee they levy because it's a Phuket branch (something to do with inter-provincial transfers?). It's charged as a percentage so it obviously makes quite a difference so I just want to be sure before I make the transfer.

    I've been to 2 local branches who have given me totally conflicting information. The helpline I've given up with after failing to get through. I'm fed up with the bank staff; they're all qualified to the hilt with worthless Thai degrees, yet know nothing.

  15. You won't qualify for the Non O Visa (often wrongly referred to as a Retirement Visa) when you reach 50, unless you are married to a Thai or have Thai family since your Voluntary work has ceased.

    You'll have to apply for the Non O-A Visa (often known as the Long Stay Visa) on the basis of being 50.

    You can thereafter remain in Thailand on extensions based on retirement provided you meet the financial requirements.

    A single entry non"O" visa based on being over 50 is easily obtained from Penang or Vientiane. Evidence of meeting the financial requirements for an extension is required.

    Is this what is known as a retirement visa i.e you have show minimum monthly or annual funds, and it's good for 1 year?

  16. On what basis have you had a "non-immigrant O visa" for years and why is a further extension not possible ?

    Your only real option of remaining in Thailand is to use tourist visas or an Ed visa. If you chose the latter you will be expected to attend classes.

    I had a work permit and non-imm O when I was working as a volunteer.

    Sounds like the best option is back to back SETV, alternating between different consulates.
