I never use travellers cheques. You get good rates using your ATM card in machines here. I have a current account with Nationwide Building Society which has no foreign exchange charges on card transactions. If you travel a lot it might be worth opening an account with them

But what exchange rate do you get?

Nationwides or the Banks whose ATM you use?

I think Bangkok Bank give the best rates. 75.47bht to the Pound right now.....

And don't listen to old asia hand. There's one bitter and sad old man.

He has a point, but he is also a bit too sensative, in my sad and bitter opinion!

But also drops the SEX-ATTRACTION levels too.

Makes ya smell like a sweaty carp.

Flax Seed Oil is better than Fish Oil and you don't smell like Flax!

It drops cholesterol levels dramatically also.

I have taken Fish Oil, Flax Seed Oil (and Castrol XL) for years, and my bloody Cholesterol is so high I have to take the dreaded Statins. They work, but have some side effects, like you feel lethargic etc.

According to Thai web site BBk are buying Pound Sterling notes for 75.49Bht!

Has anyone actually got that?

I am holding my breath until next Tuesday, when the GBPs I am sending from UK to buy a house with, arrives at BBK for transfer into Bht.

When I agreed the price for the property, we estimated 69bht to the GBP, and this increase will make quite a bit of difference......

Come on fellas, ask your GFs to pray to good old Buddha that it keeps on going up!

By November 2004 I hope to be living with my Thai wife in our house in Pattaya.

I am thinking of having my State Pension paid into my UK Nationwide Flexaccount, as they do not charge you for using your debit Card overseas.

But what will the exchange rate be, if say, I draw Bahts from a Bangkok Bank ATM ?

Will it be BBk's Sterling/Baht rate at that time? Or Nationwide's rate???

Also I have some capital that I want to get a decent return on, in an Off Shore

Account. But I must be able to draw on it if necessary.

Any of you guys, got a good off shore Bank Account ?

My girlfriend (who is thai) doesn't speak great english, but its quite good. She's only been learning for a year and only a few hours every week. But it has improved a lot over the past 2 weeks - i guess because she has a reason to learn it now

My future missus hardly understood a word of English when we met 18mths ago.

But now she does quite well......

The trouble is, I think she knows more English than she does, at times, and this can

cause misunderstandings and frustration.

We can't complain that they don't understand us, can we?

When we are equally to blame for not understanding Thai.......

The most important thing I think, is to praise them when they get it right , and to be patient when they fail. Too often their confidence is destroyed by ridicule and

Christ! I have just been told by the UK Pension service that the only way they can send my Monthly Pension is by a sterling cheque.... BY MAIL!!!

At present they put it into my Nationwide Bank Account here in UK. Better let that continue eh?. And draw out cash from an ATM (if I find one that will ....)

Then theres the Bloody exchange rate. Bet that will be lousy using an ATM.

Took my GF to have a Root Canal and Filling done at a Dental Clinic on the South Pattaya Rd, opposite that big Condo, and not far from the small everyday market.

He did a really good job. Cost 4500bht.

Highly recommended.
