Not completely, after the last horrific floods they put a Dycke around the trading estate so that it wouldn't be flooded again and stop the industrial work again. I'm sure that they didn't consider that in a future flood as bad as the last one theIndustrial Estate may well be kept safe without any flooding. But the volume of water displaced by the estate will raise the water level in the Old Town where the Budhist Temples will be damaged more than last time.

Believe it or not it has been used in the laying of big floors, I visited a small village in Sussex, UK some years ago where one of the public buildings had a floor that contained sour milk. -

Phuket Old Town street makes list of world’s most beautiful streets
peterpaintpot replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Yes, Crail in Fife, where my grandmother was born and educated until she was 14 when she got a job at a " Big House" in the kitchen, presumably as the scullery maid. In her 80's she could still knock up a wonderful kedgeree. It is a beautiful town, there are lovely places to visit if you walk on the St Andrews to Forth Bridge footpath. The next town to the South is Anstruther where you can find at the harbour the best fish and chip restaurant that I have ever visited. From Anstruther you can visit by boat the Isle of May which is now a seabird reserve, well worth a visit to see the puffins in the breeding season, first time I was there, there were 30,000 breeding pairs of puffins. The boats only go to the Isle of May if the weather is ok, times vary every day as you can only visit at high tide. -
Police Gun Control to Be Tightened after Massacre
peterpaintpot replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yes, I have posted on the TNT video cast on this subject. As for this report it is BS, once again they will do nothing. As for the people who want more guns on the street this is ludicrous it will increase deaths. Until the Thais replace the RTP with a real police force and not a TOY TOWN POLICE FORCE nothing will change. It will need an honest Government in Thailand first. I can't see that happening in a hurry! -
Such a tragic day. Reading the reports today, it seemed obvious to me that the RTP must accept a lot of the blame for this tragedy. They must have realised that the culprit was quite unfit to be a police officer a long time ago - they ignored the facts. He should have been prosecuted and thrown out of the force. It is hard to imagine that the police force are competent in any part of the requirements expected from a police force that are determined to keep honest citizens safe.

They just seem to be very bolshy and determined to use their power to block me. We have had many different reasons for their inactivity. such as it was an illegal import so no duty had been paid on it, we pointed out that it had a Thai VIN number. On the next visit they then explained that obviously it had been made in Thailand, smuggled out and then illegally brought back into the country and therefore no duty was paid. It was like being trapped in a Monty Python sketch, sheer lunacy, Thai logic gives me a headache! I would like to get what's owed to me before I die and buy a new Camry. Here's hoping!

Continuation due to me hitting the wrong key: The Court awarded me about 2 million baht plus costs for my lawyer, but they wanted the car auctioned so that they had an accurate value of the car. The money from the auction was to go to me and the value deducted from the amount that the defendants would have to pay. The only good news is that the Court applied a 7% interest fee on the price I had paid for the car for the period stretching from purchase date until they coughed the money up - I bought it new for just over on 1,500,000 baht. The hold up now is that I cannot auction the car until I get it registered in my name and the red plates are removed! The information that you cannot sell a car with red plates answers EZRA'S question which followed the original post.
-
I own a Camry, very happy with it and it is over 15 years old - it still has RED plates even though the Consumer Court in Bangkok have instructed the Licencing Department that it is my vehicle and that that they should issue me with a Tabian Auto in my name that was about 6 years ago. Despite my lawyer making many visits to the office in Bangkok they have still done nothing.

Bangkok to have "different looking Zebras" - but will people stop?
peterpaintpot replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I read many years ago the the first one was installed in Slough High Street and a few years ago BBC World News featured it on an anniversary I think. Don't rush to see it, that part of the High Street is now a pedestrian zone, Just checked Wikipedia agrees with me. -
So the question is: how long had he been dead before someone checked him not just the monitor? If the monitor had been calibrated before use and found out to be malfunctioning may be he would be still alive now. This was a very serious incident and should be investigated thoroughly, but I doubt that will happen in Thailand.

About 15 years ago I was chatting with the Senior English Language Teacher at the local secondary school. I was explaining to her that my wife's family were building accommodation for some farm animals and on one day they built an internal wall and on the next day they planned to work on the far side of the wall but they hadn't left an aperture in the wall so that you could pass through to the other side. She explained that there was no phrase in the Thai language that meant forward planning because, I suppose, the Thais don't need it!

U-turns and the new regulations for them to allow higher speed in the third lane. Driving to Korat from Saraburi yesterday we were on the part of Highway 2 that is under the new overhead Motorway travelling at about 90 kph in the middle lane when two vehicles joined the third lane via a U-turn on the same level as Highway 2. I'm sure that I read that the higher speed level would not be allowed on roads with this crazy suicidal type of U-turn. Thais have such a short memory retention!

I beg to differ if you look at the original photo on this site. No large cracks just scars indicating it had been struck by main hard, sharp objects. The body did not flex, just the roof was dented and that dent did not reach the screen. Car roofs are not designed to take weights, they dent fairly easily.

This Webfact coincides with a programme that was on BBC World News this weekend regarding the situation in Nepal. The Tiger population was decreasing at an concerning rate so they decided to tackle the problem and double the number of tigers in ten years. Ten years have gone by and the increase of tiger numbers is more more than double. However in the last 12 months 16 people have been killed by tigers. If you are interested in full details the TV programme is called Return of the Tiger and is available on bbciplayer, The article from BBC World news can be found under the Asian section and you will have to scroll down to Saturday's items.
