  1. I have a Quest 2 that I bought in the US when it first came out and I have one of the units with the officially unacknowledged battery problem that it wont charge above about 70% and it wont charge while running even if attached

So I bought a replacement battery from ebay without looking at how hard it would be to replace.  Now I've looked at a Youtube video on howto, I'd rather have someone else do it!

Any places where they'll replace a battery in Bangkok?

  2. Many years ago was pulled over at toll road exit booth and was told I was speeding.  I thought it was probably true so I was ready to pay

then he pulled out a ring binder full of A4 printed pictures of cars and opened it to show my car

i was impressed they could get a camera picture printed and in the folder in the short amount of time I’d been on the highway so I started to reach for my wallet

then I noticed the Autocar logo on the corner of the picture of “my” car. I pointed at the logo and started laughing and the cop was upset and put his folder away and said, “100 Baht “

I gave him that and he waved me away quickly

"I said, what if I'm out of the country?"

Why did you say that?  If you were out of the country and they could send you a statement to your registered address, how would you get it, not being in the country?

Because every other bank I can get a statement in the app AND/OR sent by email if I wanted it

No need to go to the physical branch or get it mailed to an address

Actually we have bank accounts and a lot of banks in Thailand for our business. UOB is the only one we have problems with getting the statement out of the phone app.

Do you have the UOB app on your phone??

Its weird bc we normally want a full months statement on the 1st of each month for the prior month. Whenever we try to do it on the first of the month we cant. We have to wait several days. The app is rubbish IMHO.

When you get back change banks is my opinion

Yes I have accounts with 4 other Thai banks and only UOB is like this.  KTB app is a hassle when changing phones and required a visit to the branch to reactivate but otherwise is ok

I'm going to minimise my interactions with UOB and keep minimal balances.  I have a Citibank account, so I hope they dont ruin that app now they've taken it over

  5. I have a savings account with UOB Thailand and the app has never worked properly so I've never been able to get a statement.  Hasnt mattered up to now as there's only one transaction a month, to pay a mortgage that is also with UOB.

But I noticed they deducted money with no explanation.  I called up and call center cant tell me what  the deduction is.  So I asked for a statement and they said they cant send one from the call center.  I cant get one in the app and I cant get one in the online banking.

The only way I can get a statement is to physically go to the branch where I opened the account and ask for it.

I said, what if I'm out of the country?  Answer, "That is our policy"

Can any one confirm if this is correct?  That the ONLY way to get a statement from UOB Thailand is to physically go to the branch?

Also, the mortgage amount is not aligning with what it should be after the payments.  I asked for a statement (Because again, impossible to get from app or online banking) and she says she can send me that by email *halleluyah!!* but it will take 5-7 working days!!!

Have I gone back in time 20 years or did I just get a bad agent or is UOB banking really like this?

  6. I have a 2 seater Porsche sports car

The cost of maintenance isnt as bad as you might think as the parts are more expensive but the labor is so cheap.  In the west you’re paying a couple of hundred dollars or pounds per hour for labor which adds up really fast.  I recently had work done which had the car in 2 days, so several hours work, and total labor was 1600 baht

Its completely true that it’s really common to take a long time to get parts.  I had an even rarer car before that was even worse so I’m used to it, but If you absolutely depend on the car, get a different one.

Super car parking is nice but not really a big deal compared to walking a few extra meters

i find service good in most places in Thailand anyway and haven’t really noticed getting treated better because of the car.

I do find funny that every now and then a woman will look in the car and make eye contact and flick their hair as I drive by.  Haven’t yet stopped to see where that would lead though

I haven’t been stopped by police in a very long time, but my last car was also expensive so dont know whether the Porsche is deterring the police more at all.  It’s certainly not attracting them

i enjoy driving the car and no real problems

  7. Villa and Tops in Bangkok both seem to have a huge number of items out of stock for long periods.  And basics as well such as eggs, chicken, pork, milk.

I just checked eggs on Villa Market online and they have 19 selections, which is much lower than usual, with 16 showing in stock, but when you try to add to cart you find only 3 out of the 19 is in stock

I'm actually wondering whether I should be concerned, which is why I searched and found this thread.

Wondering if its a distribution or a production problem caused by covid

The thing you posted is for the Thai ID card, not the pink one.

Has to be both as Number 6 is pink card only

Number 6- is used for those who entered the country unlawfully or those who entered lawfully with intent to stay in the country on temporary basis. So if you have a yellow ta bian ban, you probably have a Thai ID number starting with 6.

  9. This might be of interest.  It shows the different categories of the ID number based on the first number

    https://www.isaanlawyers.com/pink-id-card-for-foreigners-in-thailand/

The first number code seems to apply to both Blue and Pink ID cards as its the same number system on both cards.

My pink card number starts with an 8 as I have PR

The Thai ID card is done according to a law related to the Thai ID Card adopted in Buddhist year 2526.

The first digit of the Thai ID Card has the following meaning:

Number 1- means a Thai national born from January 1, 1984 onwards whose parents registered their birth within 15 days

Number 2- means a Thai national, born from January 1, 1984 onwards whose parents registered their birth late

Number 3- means a Thai national and aliens with identification cards whose names appeared in the census before May 31, 1984

Number 4- means the same group of people (as #3) who previously didn’t have an ID number

Number 5- means a Thai nationals whose names was added to the census later due to error

Number 6- is used for those who entered the country unlawfully or those who entered lawfully with intent to stay in the country on temporary basis. So if you have a yellow ta bian ban, you probably have a Thai ID number starting with 6.

Number 7- is for children of number 6

Number 8- is for formers aliens whose original nationality was converted to Thai after May 1, 1984 (And permanent residents to what I know).

  10. I did it about 2 years ago.   My Thai is a long way from fluent but the questioning is basic.  You're not expected to discuss difficult topics.

As a previous poster stated they have a set list of questions they start from.  How long have you been in Thailand?  What's your job? What's your favorite Thai food?  What's your favorite thing about Thai culture?   What's your favorite place in Thailand?  What's your favorite Thai holiday?  What have you done to help Thailand?

Its set up that they do lots of people in a day, one after the other, so you're in and out in 10 minutes.

  11. I cant understand why all the moanings about $10 or 500 baht at Mae Sai border....most farangs go there for a visa run...why not pay them the 500 baht and they are happy and you get an easy crossing....you dont do the visa run everyday...besides its just little difference...not a couple of thousands..

There are people practicing this every fortnight.

Are they though? Doesn't the Thai side give you problems if you keep doing that?

No, unless you're out of pages in the passport.

INteresting. Are there people staying years doing this? In which case, why do they bother clamping down on the tourist visas which they get money from and not this, which they don't?

  13. Good Luck chasing Siam Futures to get their power put back on it was in fact PEA that cut their power so they are taking the action against the wrong entity.

I like that they produce a slick and glossy and well designed notice to say that they're closed.

I'm sure that makes the customers feel much better that they lost their money to such a high quality organisation

  14. I found the ingredients to be decent quality. Like another poster I've always ordered subs. The ability to make your own sandwich rather than having to go to a store and buy packets of each ingredient is very useful. Never tried any of their other items like pasty or pie though.

I'd go more often if they had parking close by.

  15. Firstly, don't worry about becoming a beefcake. The body HATES adding muscle so its very hard to do and there is no danger at all that you will accidentally swell up. I'll repeat that, absolutely no danger whatsoever your muscles will become bigger than you want them to be.

Secondly, there is no such thing as a "toned" muscle. Resting muscle tone is identical whether a muscle has been trained or is untrained. What makes muscles look "toned" is a reduction in covering fat and any increase in muscle size.

I'll agree with other posters that weight loss is primarily a function of diet. Calories expended through exercise are very minor compared to what's available in food. The documentary I link to below has a scene where the interviewer is talking to a scientist and realises that the coffee he's been drinking while talking to him over a few minutes contained as many calories as would be burned by a 40 minute run and that's even before he took a bite of the muffin!

For cardiovascular fitness this documentary shows the very interesting work going on at the moment that shows that the majority of the benefits of cardiovascular exercise such as how the body manages blood sugar, your ability to use oxygen etc. can be achieved with 12 minutes a MONTH of exercise. Obviously this means that any calorie burn is lower than hours on a treadmill would achieve, but its also means it only takes 12 minutes a month rather than 12 hours and with the resulting reduction in wear and tear on the body.

My experience watching personal trainers here and elsewhere is that they are fine for helping you design a program, but they tend to err on the side of keeping the amount of exercise and the weights too low. The reason for this is obvious, if a customer gets demotivated because they think its hard, or they get injured, they don't come back and the trainer doesn't get paid.

I would suggest that you use a trainer at the beginning to set up a program for you and show you how to use the equipment and after that you can save your money.

And don't worry about feeling self-conscious. Every single person in the gym was a first timer at one point. That feeling will be gone after just a few sessions. Whereas feeling self-conscious about your appearance will last a lifetime!

One final point, on stretching. Do not do what is called static stretching before exercising. Static stretching is where you stretch a limb out to the maximum of its range of motion and hold it for several seconds. While static stretching does increase range of motion it also triggers an inhibitory response that reduces the ability of the muscles being stretched to exert force. This effects lasts 2-3 hours.

So any stretching you do before a session should be dynamic stretching where you swing the limbs around. This increases blood flow and warms up muscles.

Although the truth is that neither form of stretching shows any actual effect on injury rates anyway!

  16. There's no question she's guilty. She's admitted it and was found with the corpse.

The only question is the kind of sentence she will get.

She's obviously going for temporary insanity due to abuse.

Some people are skeptical as to whether the abuse was real and suspicious that courts tend to go easy on women murderers that make these claims.

And its not necessarily an anti-Thai woman thing. Lorrena Bobbit is a case where if a man cut a woman's breasts off and threw them away its unlikely he'd be turning up on chat shows not long after claiming to be a victim

Reading comprehension not your strong point?

Rimmer who used an interpreter to help her understand proceedings due to her poor English denies murder.

The court heard that Rimmer said nothing to police after being arrested.

She also claimed ... that she had suffered 'a blackout' on the night he had died so she could not remember anything.

You could try being less snotty.

    And you missed this line

    "

Prosecutor Andrew Jackson said he believed that Rimmer did not deny killing him and that she would claim that she was suffering from diminished responsibility."

Are you contending that there is doubt over her guilt? That you think she may be innocent? That someone else broke in to the house, slipped her a roofie, and battered him to death?

  17. British justice will ensure that, if proven guilty, she will spend just a couple of years in quite nice prison accommodation at the taxpayer's expense and will then be free to leave with her ill-gotten gains. She'll probably even have her flight back to Thailand paid for her.

And they wonder why the UK is going to the dogs.

I might normally say 'One could not make this crap up' - but you just did.

We shall see what happens if she is convicted.

You could probably spend the intervening time preparing your apology.

Maybe the court will find her guilty, like I say, let the court decide. While awaiting the verdict, I'll contemplate the mindset that believes Prison is quite nice accommodation, that if convicted the law would allow her to keep the proceeds of the will, or that she's going to get a 'couple of years' if convicted for murder.

I'll not apologise if she's convicted, since I've said that is for the court to decide and I've not said she is guilty or innocent and I trust you'll not expect me to apologise for the fact that the UK government funds prison and deportation costs.

Now, what else is the Daily Mail telling you to rant about today?!

There's no question she's guilty. She's admitted it and was found with the corpse.

The only question is the kind of sentence she will get.

  18. There are a number of parts of this case that seem to be undisputed facts

    She killed him

She killed him with 16 blows to the head with a hammer

She waited 15 hours while he slowly died

Three months before the attack he changed his will to benefit her.

Here's the speculative part on my part:

There are networks of Thai women in most large towns in the UK now made up of divorced ex-bar girls who trade information on how to get the best settlement, what to say in court, how to claim abuse etc. They also teach other how to abuse the welfare system,

She was undoubtedly part of that network in Cambridge as she'd been there a long time.

This makes me think that the claim of abuse is false. That the attempted suicide is false.

My speculation is that she worked really really hard to be the sweetest thing he'd ever met to manipulate him in to changing his will. Once that was done she got tired of being so nice and went back to being lazy. He got annoyed and threatened to change his will back. She reacted with fury and attacked him, probably not intending to murder him, but on an impulse. Once she realised he was dead she decided she needed a story and abuse and mental illness is what she's going for, which is why she did the various things she did. (None of which were more than superficial)

This is entirely my speculation at this point, with the facts separated above.

If she gets away with it, or only gets a short sentence or get psychiatric care, this will be passed in to the Thai exwives network knowledge base, you can get someone to change their will and then murder them so long as you claim abuse or that you went temporarily mad

God some people talk utter crap "networks of Thai women who trade information" where do you get this rubbish from ,ok there are some bad uns ,but i more than likely know more Thai women in Britain than you ever could and most were decent hard workers ,even the hookers i knew were not all that bad ,so before you write this drivel ,think!!

You really trying to claim that Thai women brought to the UK don't seek each other to talk in Thai and talk about things about Thailand and eat Thai food together? You really trying to claim that doesn't happen?

Or maybe you'll apologise for saying that Thai women form groups together is rubbish since you'd have to be blind to claim to know Thai women in the UK and continue to deny it.

Maybe what you think is rubbish is the idea that these women would trade advice and experience on how to survive, what their rights are in a foreign country they all share, what experiences they've had or heard from others.

I mean it must be rubbish to claim that Thai women in a foreign country would do what white men do in foreign countries, mustn't it?

Probably racist on my part as well right?

I swear, some of you are so desperate to defend Thais you veer right out of common sense and in to bizzaro fantasy land.
