Thanks phazey and Sea.
I agree 100% with the US embargo nonsense, it totally screwed me up and cost me a small fortune in the process. Not to mention it hurts the people more than it does the generals. I am happy to see the FEC change though, I would fly in on the morning flight and out on the evening flight and spending am hour trying to get more than 70% for my monopoly money.

IT, did they make you change $200? I had been told by a few this had been stopped, but they were giving second hand info. I stopped going and buying there partly beacause of the FEC deal. Was to much of a hassle changing it back at a decent rate before I left. I just did not have the time to chase around to find a good black market rate. Was a time you could give $10 and not have to do it but they started cracking down on the girls changing the money.

Thats gotta hurt.

What in the world does the collegial system have to do with the US government????
In Korea at the moment Ozzie and don't know if the girls are still there, LOL. If they or any friends are there when I return I will be sure to drop you a PM.
LOL@ IT, so, you mean to tell me you and Nat are married??
-
Thanks for the help doc. And yes sir, you are right, I must be brain dead when first posting. It was a 3 month 90 day stay visa, duh, sorry. What in the world made me think 40 days were in a month? I need to get this sorted out and get my head clear.

LOL@Nat, you were certainly a looker. No shame in doing it for the money or free for that matter
A question Nat since you are a girl and would know, are women allowed to go topless in Thailand? The pool at the hotel next to my apartment is eye level so I cannot help but see the goings on whenever I pass by. Well, the last three days there are these 5 girls that have been sunbathing and swimming topless. I thought that was a big no no in Thailand? Are the people working at the pool just to shy to say anything? Or is it a "up to you" kinda thing? My misses cannot stop looking LOL, just keeps saying "farang bah mach" and giggling like a schoolgirl.

Ok. Just so I am sure I understand. When I arrive in the US tomorrow I should use my company letterhead to write a letter to the consulate in Texas, and apply for the Non B in Texas too. One question, will they be able to get it back to me by the time I leave for return to Asia? That will be 12 to 16 days. Thanks.

I use my mothers address in Georgetown DC doc. I haven't been living in the US since I was 18, but do file taxes, and have 1 of my bank accounts there. I was living in Argentina when I got the Non B I had. Got out my passport to check it out, and noticed 2 things that I forgot to mention before.
It was only a single entry.
And it was only a business visa not work visa, which I take it was an entirely different thing.
After checking the site and reading many posts I now understand this visa still did not give me the ability to work. But I am guessing was able to conduct business, and did not have to leave Thailand for 120 days? Thats all I want anyway, except now that things are set up here I would like to come and go at will. I see the price has gone up to 2000 baht for single and 5000 for multiple, thats ok too. Do you think it will be just as easy to get it as a 1 year but multiple entry from the US Embassy in DC, or does the multiple entry part change the situation entirely?

On my first trip to Thailand I went to the Thai Embassy where I was living at the time and asked for a 120 day work visa. He asked what I would be doing as in way of work. I told him I would be traveling around the country meeting with businessmen to see about export to the US and Europe. The man said I needed a letter from my boss saying what it was that I would be doing in Thailand. I told him I was my boss and he allowed me to type up a letter right there.
I paid the equivalent of 850 baht and came back 2 days later and had the visa. Now does anyone know if this was a one shot, one time, Non B given to me since I was looking into investment in Thailand, or is this something I can get multiple times? It was valid for 3 months and I needed nothing but the letter.
I am going to get this sorted out when I hit the states next week its driving me crazy thinking about it. One minute I feel ok I am covered and the next minute I feel worried that I am not. At the end of the day, this is what I do here, and the reason I first came and continue to come here. I am a businessman only wishing to buy from manufacturers, and it is first and foremost my reason for being here.
If in the end I was denied the ability to come here to buy then I would go to India and take my wife with me since we both have multiple entry 5 year visas. I wish to base my buying operations here now for her. I admit in the beginning it was because of the comforts here compared to other Asian countries. I just do not understand the difficulty in doing it here, anywhere else its a 2 day $75-$100 issue, and most countires not even that.

I agree Ozzie, all those two politicians in Australia showed was they lacked self discipline. There are about 10 posters on here that have the same problem. If you don't agree with someone no need to curse and ridicule them. Thats not anyway to treat someone even if it is an anonymous forum. Its a great thing you started and have going here, but why ruin it.
To often a thread is ruined with various !@#$%^ from both sides throwing threats, curses and insults around. This I think is a waste of space and effort IMHO. The thing I think the forum loses more of from this type of stuff is the mild mannered poster that never comes back. Who knows what ways they could have contributed or who they could have helped had they stayed. I like the opinions of everyone in the world its what makes it interesting.
When you feel you want to lash ot think of her, sorry ladies don't have a male stripper. Relax, have a smoke, a drink, a cup of coffee, something.

huski I bought a Web1222 card at Pantip but keep getting a busy signal, am I doing something wrong. My apartment phone also goes through the front desk, but I have to dial a 33 with a comma after it. I have been using KSC since coming to Thailand and have no problems with connecting in general. I do sometimes have a problem with getting a busy signal with KSC some evenings. I believe this is because every other tourist near a 7-11 using the same service. The Web1222 card will never connect always a busy signal. Have you or anyone else ever heard of someone having a similar problem? Any ideas?

GNC is like the McDonalds of vitamins in the US. Meaning the most well known, and that they are everywhere. I go there because it has everything compared to most of the Thai based shops, they have a great selection but not the selection of GNC.

dr_Pat_Pong I hope I am not what you consider one of the smug non-compliers. If I am, there's nothing I can do about that, your free to have your opinion. I have done it in all the countries I have lived in. To be totally honest I never thought about anywhere else. I have only started thinking about it here because everywhere you look, and everything you here nowadays is about this subject.
I honestly have never heard the subject brought up in any of the other countries I lived in. I have been an expat from the US for 19 years (since 18 years of age) through 6 different countries. The only thing anyone ever cared about was that I was not working, buying for export was fine. I admit, Thailand is the first developing country I have lived in.
With the 200K baht rule does it have to be a Thai bank?

Thank you Edward! I will just have her ring them up in the morning. I take it that she will be able to find out where the one closest to us is (US Embassy area) from the phone number on the link you supplied?

They have a GNC in the Siam Discovery, you walk past it after entering the mall from the train. It is on the left hand side I believe.
Agree with Chatuchak being the place to buy aquarium goods.
-
Edward could you say what you needed? When you did it? Maybe things have changed since then. I hear different things from different people, both Thai and farang.
I went ahead and married the girl anyway at least as far as the village was concerned with the ring (the ring my idea and choice), the dowry, the chain for mama and one for papa, the ceremony and the party. Everyone in the village knew we were to marry and to save her family the shame I went ahead with the whole thing even after deciding not to do the legal way. For me thats good enough, and although she says its enough for her to but I can just tell its not.
She is a great girl and I would do anything for her as she makes me extremely happy, and if I can I would like to do it. But I refuse to fork over all my personal info and bank accounts to the government. I just won't do it for numerous reasons.
-
A question sort of on topic. I admit not looking into personally with the government which is my fault. To get married to a Thai don't you have to show proof to the Thai government that you have X amount in the bank, and have this job making X amount, and have records showing you paid X amount in taxes? This is what I was told, and it put the getting married in Thailand for me in no category.
