  1. Looking to make friends here or find out about other websites that would be a good place to meet people. I'm 23 year old female moving to Bangkok this month and never been there or know anyone on who lives there so I thought it would be a good idea to meet some people online before I get there. I've lived in the UK for 6 years and I'm from the Caribbean. I'll be there doing a dressmaking course but I get the strange feeling there aren't many people that speak english at the school I'll be going to. Any way its be good to meet new people I easy going, fun, enjoying socializing. Kinda hard describing oneself humm here's what anything else you want to know just ask.

    Hello!

First question, why the username Mickey001?

  2. I was very impressed with Dude/Sweet is Dead at 808 last week. The music played was pretty much exactly what I would of wanted. I was shocked to walk into a BKK nightclub and hear the Pippettes being played. Put a smile on my face anyway.

    But no more Dude/Seet! :o

Niteshift seems to be more of the same though and is taking place in Club Culture on Saturday week.

Other events that are coming up...

Does anybody know if Club Soma still goes ahead on a weekly basis?

  3. Here's a tip - go to music stores and find out where the employees like to hang out. I also find they have alot of posters and stuff of upcoming shows. There is a great musical instrument store at Fortune Town Rama 9 MRT - you're bound to meet some Tghai musicians willing to plug there band in there.

I am gonna go on a limb here and say that despite the fact i too hate cover bands in bars if you can see Lee Shamrock (last I saw him he was still playing Irish Exchange and then Dubliner though now they are under new management) it is well worth it. It's an all request show.

I just happened to be around that store today. They've a poster up for some gig in 808 next thursday.

I find the best way to find out is just take a look at one of the MySpace pages of any decent promoter in Bangkok. They all advertise their gigs on each others pages anyway.

Here's Mind The Gaps page and I see they have a gig lined up for Saturday in Silom.

  4. :D not gigs and not a gala events looker; so what are you looking for? :o

Ah I guess I'm looking for some decent gigs but not so much the house bands that play Wed - Sun. The gig guide seemed to have quite a bit of that.

I don't need a guide to tell me when Telefon are playing the Hard Rock Cafe. :D

The Overtone Music Cave sounds like somewhere I must check out though. Been there zaza?

  5. Thanks for the replies.

I had come across the gig guide before but I guess it's more that the events I'm looking for don't really take place in Bangkok rather than not being able to find a guide for them.

    Thanks anyway.

  6. Thanks for the quick replies. I was hoping that's the way the system works.

The last time I passed through Immigration in BKK airport I had no outward bound ticket ( I had a fax from the Irish embassy asking would they let me through) and found it quite unnerving. I don't want to go through that experience again. As it turned out they gave me the stamp without even having to show the letter in the end.

    Thanks again!

  7. Hi,

I tried to do a bit of research on my query but I couldn't find anything so if anyone could help it would be great.

I arrived in Thailand with a double entry tourist visa on 24/07/07. I utilised my second entry after crossing into Cambodia on 19/10/07.

After spending 2 weeks in Laos during December I had to fly back to Ireland through Bangkok so I got a Visa Exemption stamp on 17/12/07.

I'm now considering going back to Thailand after 19/01/08 and am wondering will I be issued with another Visa Exemption or have I used up too many days over the past 6 months?

If I can get a 30 day exemption is it possible to go straight to Vientiane and apply for a tourist visa or multi entry tourist visa?

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks!

  8. Is having proof of an onward flight an issue when extending a Tourist Visa?

My first 60 day Visa is coming to an end next week so my options are extend by 30 days or exit the country and use the second of my double entry tourist Visa's.

I've recently changed my return flight to the new year (when I hope to have worked my way through both visa's) so I will have no proof of leaving within the next ~30 days.

    Should I be ok?

Thanks in advance for any help.
