  1. I do practice Thai Traditional Medicine even though I am a pharmacist.

Depending on the physician, it may involve folk believe etc. Newer Thai Traditional practitioners tend to use Science knowledge, based on scientific research, thesis, papers, etc.

However, personal experience taught me that the original, old-styled Thai traditional practitioners are more effective even though sometime they mix folk believe and religious in their treatment.

I dont know about Cambodian medicine, but considering both shared similar history, I'm guessing both are similar.

PS: I hope you refer to Cambodian medicine (herbal) practitioner and not the "black magic practitioner." I am strictly talking about Thai and Cambodian herbal practitioner, either TTMed Doctor or TTMed Pharmacist.

  2. Though luck, Songkla city isnt as lively as you thought it is.

    2. There's place for Westerners/expats to hang out, the area is just opposite the Indonesian Embassy. There'll be junction where bars, BBQ resto, etc. are held. They're soft bars (nothing funny going on) and it's pretty cool place to hang out with. It's pretty much the place for Westerners to hang out due to the fact that embassies are scattered around the location, and the area is where expats chills after work.

Cant advise on question no. 1 and no.3.

    Best of luck!

  3. Why anybody would have a Foreign currency deposit account in this country is beyond me. They charge a percentage for opening it, and also for closing it, and pay almost zero interest.

In relation to the exchange rate, my crystal ball was broken a few years back, and no replacements are available here. Maybe ebay.

I was planning to have one due to the depressing USD currency.

BBL staff once offered me but I refused, but since I'm receiving less and less, I thought of keeping USD first until the rate increases. If what you said is true then it doesnt seem worth it. :/ Dang it...

  4. Once my girlfriend (now my wife) and I established a firm relationship, I would keep her purse in cash, usually around B$10,000. She then paid for virtually everything we did, whether just having diner or drinks, or shopping and travel. I generally carry no more than B$3 to B$4000 on me at any time. She has never given me any reason to doubt her honesty or frugality. Frankly, she is pretty careful with money. She has always put money away for the future, long before she met me. When we are buying something for the household, she sits down and calculates whether we can afford it now, or should wait till later. Now that we are married, I involve her in understanding the investments I have made in stocks and savings, as well as preparing the yearly tax returns we must file. She also has access to accounts with an ATM card and a VISA and AMEX. I want her to understand these in case anythiing happens to me. As to the OP, salary may be an unfortunate choice of words. At least she is thinking about the future. With my wife, we talked long and hard about our future. I believe she thinks of it in the same vein as I do, which is marriage is a partnership. We need to think together as much as possible to make this a success.

Awesome relation. That's something I've been looking for too. :) You're one lucky man.

  5. I do realize that Paypal always lose if you make a C/C, though the problem is, last time I was scammed and I called SCB call center their customer service was completely ignorant about C/C, she told me no such thing exists.

It's always safest if the Credit card provider cares for this.

I've done research that other people had done C/C for Bangkok Bank card and I'm curious of the procedure.

  6. เราไม่สามารถสร้างจักรวรรดิภายในวันเดียว แต่เราสามารถทำลายมันภายในชั่วโมงหนึ่ง

It's the exact, direct translation of what you requested.

I think there's another Thai phrase similar to this but they used the word "but we can destroy it in a blink of an eye."

  7. I can help, I've been living in Thai for closed to 10 years and writes (with some spelling mistakes) and talks fluently.

    Mole's translation was quite accurate.

ผมหมดใจกับเธอไปแล้ว = I have lost all my feelings for her

คนหมดใจ = person finished heart, [A person who stopped loving] is the most accurate translation.

ความรู้สึก ของคนหมดใจ = [The feeling of someone who had stopped loving]

    ความรู้สึก = Feeling

    ของ = of

    คน = person

หมด = finished, done, over, used up, gone

    ใจ = heart

Combine หมดใจ = finished heart, [dont love anymore], [stopped loving], [done loving]

    Hope this help.

  8. I am wondering if it is normal for a Thai lady to require a salary to be engaged and also after marriage. My fiancée does not seem to appreciate that I pay for all her needs and also pay for travel that she would never experience without me or another boyfriend paying. She keeps telling me she is very concerned about her future and putting money into her bank. She is not asking for a lot maybe just 2,000 or 3,000 baht a month but I am concerned that this is opening the door to other future problems. She is threatening to go back to work which would take up most of her time as when she works she makes a very small salary that ends up taking up most of her time. Has anybody here had any similar experiences? I really do not know how to handle this problem that we have and when she starts in on me it is non stop nagging which drives me crazy. I could really use some help.

    Sucks to be you..

The moment you go broke I think that'll be the moment this girl will leave you for another man. :(

It's just my opinion, I prefer my girl working, and we can manage our time together.

Thai girls like saving up for their family. They rip you off and send those money back to their relatives and families. (Not all, some.. )

  9. One reason why I dont want to send my kids to study in Thailand.

Most teachers teaches the kid to remember instead teaching the kids to think. They forgot their responsibility.

    Government are also dumb...

The Boards of school are also not much different.

To sum it all, very few quality school exists now. :( Most kids passed with flying colors due to remembering "easy" pattern thought by tutor institute.

There's one very far away from the city which I visited last month, awesome principal (I've never seen any school principle who cooks, and helps serve food to visitors! Very humble principle indeed), awesome students, enthusiastic and they desire to learn, but the lack of teacher and equipment will probably lead them to a dark future.

  10. quite a range for some of those jobs skilled work 10 k to 100 k? after 5 years 20 k to 200k

Maybe they're talking about private companies + bonus + promotions?

I've a few professors working in local university for years, and earn like, 30k or so. (Excluding free house, etc. not sure about bonus)

The big gap of >5 years should come from the differences between working in a government institute or private companies. Foreigners will hardly (maybe never) be promoted to a dean or something along the line.

I've never seen any of my hardworking foreign professors being promoted to the board of my University. They get extra salaries from extra jobs or sponsors.

  11. An interesting article in the Bangkok paper yesterday talking about the (strong) desire to lower interest rates in order to lessen the impact of capital inflows (hot money comming into Thailand from overseas for investment). It seems there's a near consensus that the bank rate should be reduced by 0.5% in two quarter point moves, that will put base at 2.25% and savings accounts will move accordingly, you have been warned!

Just got a call from my rep at Bangkok Bank that my 3.3% 5 month fixed has just expired and the current special is 2.75% for 4 months and 2.8% for 7. So seems your statement has merit.

SCB have 6 months at 3.05% going on.

BBL and Thanachart gives about 2.9% for 3 months and 3.00% for 6 months.

It's rather hard to find 3% over the previous months. (Those 3 are what I use.)

  12. You will most likely find that the shipper is using a freight forwarding company, which is why the tracking number is not available instantly. We do a lot of shipping out of China and it is the same when we use a freight forwarding company rather than our own account.

    Andy

That's a great relieved. Thank you for your reply.

I forgot to mention that one thing that got me agitated is that it's going to be Chinese New Year and I dont want to afford waiting until the 19th before the shipping process was handled (hence why I was in a hurry to pay and hope he will ship it instantly.)

    Thanks!

  13. It is better to close the company down and make sure it is done properly so that no future problem could arise. The cost for closing down a company is approximately 50-60,000 Baht depending on the annual audit. If you decide to close today, apart from the 2012 year end audit you will also have to complete the 2013 (January) audit as well.

But should you keep the company idle and await for someone to buy you out or simply just take over your share, relieving you from the responsibility of being a director and a shareholder then it would depend on how quickly you could transfer the company. If you look for a buyer you will still need to file the annual and semi-annual audits.

I’m assuming that your company is also equipped with VAT, which means that the company has a monthly responsibility of filing, even though it is completely idle Failure to file the VATwill also incur late submission fees.

These days, information is linked between the Revenue Department, the Department of Business Development and Police.

Usually, they try to contact you to settle the any outstanding penalty payments. If you refuse to pay then you could be blacklisted or more importantly, you may find you can't leave the country if you are a director of a company that owes taxes. We have represented a client that had this happen; they were flagged at the airport when trying to leave.

It might be in your best interest to dissolve this company permanently, then you would not have to worry about leaving or returning to Thailand.

The cost of dissolving a company is approximately 50-60,000 Baht, and would take approximately 3-6 months to complete (depending on the liquidation process – if any).

    Thanks for the great info.

Though I'm curious, do it cost this much to close a company in other countries?

  14. I bought wholesale from a Chinese seller, and paid via Paypal as there are no better way.

I've at least a certain "low" feeling of security using Paypal but it's better than MoneyGram or WesternUnion or T/T.

Anyways, as another level of protection, I requested seller to invoice me.

He sent me a black invoice without discription but the price is correct.

He told me not to put anything on the Paypal, but as a level of protection, I decided to put "to pay for iPhone case x 100 by Mss. xxx"

He replied to me in an email as follows:

I said to you did't leave anything on paypal invoice

but you leave the "for iphone 5 100pcs via Fedex "

it's very danger for us ,the paypal maybe check our account

you know ,the paypal did't allow anyone sell the iphone case

this maybe go to court .and please don't do this next time ,OK?

I know what you need ,100pcs case iphone 5 , ship to thailand

via Fedex ,so please did't leave anything next time

    thanks very much my friend

Which, I couldnt find anything to confirm that Paypal doesnt allow the sales of iPhone 5 cases (unless it's branded of course).

Can anyone help to confirm this? I'm becoming very suspicious of this seller.

  15. I used 3 brotkers, though my primary is SCBS.

I've hard only good things (including low fees) for KIM ENG, but due to the lack of personal experience on KIM ENG, I dont have any opinion on them.

I'm so far happy with SCBS, unsure if it's because I know the marketting officer or something.

Buying a share of 40,000 will cost you to get charged a 107 baht comission.

That's about 0.275% comission. (Including VAT)

  16. The story is, I've used Paypal as a seller in the past, experienced fraud, and Paypal doesnt help. I then quit being a seller as there was no other options to receive payments.

I've always used Paypal for personal expenses with friends, hardly for purchases.

Recent months, purchased stuff from Etsy.com and a few trusted sellers.

Everything was fine, until 2 days ago, I need to find payment method to buy from Shenzhen Huowang Trading Co.,Ltd. for their B2B iPhone cases.

The amount wasnt much, a few hundreds bucks, and as I'm buying from Chinese seller, I had to find suitable payment method that the seller accepts. Out of WU, MG, T/T, Paypal, etc. Paypal was the best choice.

Anyways, seller told me he will do a next day shipping according to our 3 hours discussion. I need him to ship out before the Chinese New Year or the package will be stuck for half a month, he agreed. Yesterday, after much pester, he told me the package is shipped out though tracking will be provided on Monday. (I know DHL must provide tracking code instantly after package is shipped, so why Monday?)

I know I'm a paranoid about this, but considering Paypal's (unstable) policy and Chinese sellers, I have to find the best bet to safe myself. Just in case my future dispute via Paypal is not on my favor, I'd like to know what are the procedure for credit card chargeback (MasterCard) in Thailand?

I'd like to know my right in case I'm screwed.

PS: I did research on their company via http://www.aliexpress.com and alibaba.com, the company seems ok, they sell tons of staff with multiple feedbacks. About 85% positive feedbacks, I just hope I dont fall in the 15% category.

I've no faith in settling disputes in alibaba.com, and I only have little faith in Paypal's customer service. I can only hope my credit card issuer protects me or I'll feel virtually unprotected for online purchases.

  17. Either you're pressing the 02-777-7777 wrong or you pressed the options wrongly.

I have used SCB CC for, 6 years and I'm very happy with their service. The Call Center knows what they're doing, their branch? No.

It goes for most things, "we" (Consumer) have to do our research to discover this "heavenly" truth that none seem to be aware of. When we point this out to them, the customer service just ignorantly tries to hold up their ego and be defense themselves claiming "no such thing" exist. I got fed up, and went to another branch who knows what the eff their doing and got myself what I wanted.

Tough luck, but I learned the hard way, do your own research first..

  18. The FDA will probably be involved, my lawyer advised that for 1M baht they will fast track and register anything. If something herb based and demonstably harmless they also have ways of stalling them so not always what you are trying to register. Localy sourced things seem easier.

I'm a pharmacist, I'm well aware of the FDA law for cosmetics and drugs.

1M fee is, overpriced... Someone's trying to squeeze cash out of you.

You're safer talking to a qualified pharmacist who deals with cosmetic products, they know their stuff best. (It took me about a month to register a new cosmetic product, that's maybe because I knew the exact composition, etc. of the product and process.)

Do your research, it safes you bucks.
