To be correct, I did not move to LOS when "young". I didn't even start visiting regularly till my 40s and visited on holiday till my 60s, after which I made the mistake of getting married to a Thai woman with a horrible family.
Are you saying you have a bad wife / marriage?
I am married to a lovely lady, but her family are the pits, my solution was an electric motor on the gate, keep the buggers out, it works, they cannot get in unless they ask.

My cat literally got better medical care at an emergency veterinarian than they give people at the government hospital I saw. The emergency veterinarian hospital was literally cleaner and even had better X-ray and stuff like ultrasound equipment. If he can afford it I’d recommend that he keep his private insurance policy if at all possible. I’m retired military so I’m luck to be fully covered at private hospitals but I still pay for most of my medical stuff out of pocket unless it’s something like a major procedure just because I don’t like dealing with all the paperwork they require back in the States at TRICARE. In fact my wife and I are both over due for a colonoscopy so I’m definitely going to have them cover that because those can get expensive depending on the doctor.
Why the scaremongering?
You are fortunate you are covered for private hospitals, but if you did not have that cover, and had a serious accident and you were taken to a government hospital would you say do not help me, i am too good to be treated here, no you would accept their help willingly.

Olmy being the spouse of a government school teacher, you are covered with her insurance.
Please dont think you can just walk into any government hospital for treatment, you have to be registered first at the hospital.
I am covered on my wifes insurance, and i am registered at 2 hospitals, local hospital and a large city hospital.

Yes i was crippled by a crazy driver, but he did not run away, he stayed and lied to the police.
The murder was committed by a drug -fueled local thug.
I am crippled for life, but i do not bear a grudge against the driver, if i let hate of him rule my life, i would ruin what is left of my life.

Whilst i am not saying she is making it up, it is the second time she has supposed to have been raped.
First when she was a college student, says her sport coach forced her to have sex, now it was when she was in the airforce, why were neither incidents reported, and why wait till now?

And to those of you who posted comments which were only sarcastic and mean spirited just to increase your posting numbers, it is sad to see so many vile persons on one thread. I like reading many of the threads for their information and often quick-witted and funny comments. But for those of you that can only seem to excoriate others, I (and probably many others) would just wish that you would <deleted>! There is an old saying that goes something like this - "If you can't say something good about another then just don't say anything"! The Brit here had something very bad happen to him, I sincerely hope nothing like that happens to the commenters here.
Clearly you cannot read too good, before you attack me and others here read all the posts first.
Because it did happen to me, a damn sight worse than him, but i did not go begging for money just got on with it.

Many remote villages in the mountains between Chiang Mai and the Myanmar border do not have any electrical supply. But as mentioned in another post, these are most likely not settlements which are legally recognized by the Thai government.
Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa ConnectPlease stop posting things which you dont know about, settlements not recognised by the Thai government.
I have lived in 1 of these villages, my wife was school director, they have a government medical facility.
These settlements as you call them are fully recognised, funded by the government.

OMG I am basing my comments on the reporting that has been made available. 1. states very clearly in the first paragraph of the news report that it was a "hit and run" 2. No where in the news report does it mention that he was drinking.
No where in the report said he had not been drinking.

Agree with you mate, but the Italian clearly was not in full control of his bike, his girlfriend said as much, he could only drive slow.
As we all know it does not take much to set a Thai man off, when driving, road rage here is a very serious problem.
What happened prior to being hit with the hammer? We dont know, and neither him or his girlfriend will be forthcoming about that.

Thailand has had a policy of connecting all recognised villages to the grid for over 50 years. The villages that aren't connected are very likely to be illegal land squats.
You would be much better off doing this in Laos.
Have to disagree with you, when i lived in Nong Kao Klang village, i asked why is there no electric, answer was we can have PEA electric, but only after we stop cutting down trees, burning the forest.
Villagers said we have done this for many years, we will not change now, so they did not get electric.
Now the villagers are not land squatters, have a school, government health clinic, poo yai bahn, same as other places.
Many other villages Hua Poo Ling for instance are over 50 ks from the grid, and nobody wants to pay for the cost of getting electric to there.

If people want to help let them, I would rather my taxes go to helping real people like this guy other than funding CEOs and corrupt politicians. There should be emergency health care for everyone.
Clearly you are behind the times.
What has visa requirements got to do with it, study the law regarding visas then you will know.
How does a one way ticket invalidate travel insurance, you have answered the question yourself, one way ticket.

While i feel sorry for this young man, it appears he just decided i will go to Thailand have fun.
He arrived on a one way ticket, clearly no thought to visa requirements, had insurance but invalidated it, because of a one way ticket, and riding an mc without a license.
Family thinks no problem we will get others to pay for his stupidity.

How come the father did not notice the abuse?
Shameful.
Very good point that mate, maybe the nanny was taking care of the fathers needs, and he was aware but chose to ignore it.

If they jailed every Thai that abandoned his woman, the prisons would have more men on the inside than there were on the outside.
What crime did he commit?
Dumping a bedridden woman, his wife by the roadside, and you ask what crime did he commit, get real man.
I am lucky if my wife tried to dump me, she would probably hurt herself trying to get my 90 kg body out of the vehicle.
