  1. Will check it out (think maybe I had a fee sample which was nice but I need a mouth full to give an opinion) but on the same subject bought some Giraud Gourmet Duck Liver Pate w/Bacon and it was very good, fairly priced (75 bht for 100g) as opposed to the French Import (1300 bth for 180g) and nice to support a local brand from Hang Dong. Can't wait to try some of their other products.

Would you by any chance know where in Hangdong Giraud Farm is located. A tel. number would also help. I have been trying to reach them for a while now.

    Many Thanks

  2. The Thai Farmers Association Wednesday threatened to deploy farm trucks or e-tan trucks to besiege major roads linking Bangkok to other regions.

Wichian Puanglamchiak, vice president of the association, said the besieging would stage to pressure the government to continue the rice pledging scheme.

The government has planned to use price guarantee instead of the pledging scheme.

Wichian said representatives of the association's members from 40 provinces will drive their farm trucks to Bangkok.

They would block the Asia Highway from the North, the Phaholyothin from the Northeast, Sukhumvit Road and Motorway from the East and Phetkasem Road from the South and West.

So they want to be overpaid for something that nobody wants right now.

yes, like in europe and the usa where agricultural produces are heavily subsidized ... why not in Thailand ? ...

  3. Thailand is the chair of ASEAN ... perhaps they are just showing their 'concern' under the ASEAN flag, not under the Thai flag only ... I believe they are pushed in the back by the US to convey some sort of critics as it is not a trait of South-East Asian nations to publicly convey infuriating remarks (refer to Myanmar!)

  4. Exports totalled US$10.28 billion, down 25.2 per cent, while imports amounted to $9.66 billion, down 36.4 per cent, resulting in a trade surplus of $619 million.

I would tend to believe that most (i do not know the %) thai exports have some import content ... Imports being down 36.4% does not sound that good for exports (less imported energy, less raw materials, less machinery, less investments, etc...).

isn't it valid to say that the Baht as always been moving in the same fashion as the USdollar ... (of course discount the baht devaluation of 10 yrs ago). Considering where the US$ is going, will the Baht follow that course?

  5. Best of luck with your effort, there are many companies offering golf in thailand and for a fact i know that it is not easy to bring golfers around.

However your quotations are obviously for overseas visitors as local residents get preferential rates (mainly during hot summer and rainy season)

Will watch your site from time to time for eventual promotions

  6. Personaly, I am amaized the death doll is so low. The songkraze death race goes on for over a week around Pattaya. It is common to see kids (usualy 3 to a bike) speeding in an out of traffic whilst having buckets of water hurled at them from nutters lining the sides of the roads. Their parents just look on with a zombie brain dead type of admiration and glee.

I would like to think the cull made the roads safer. However, alas, I think most Thais have no sense of death or danger.

The average mentality of a Thai is that of a 12 year old - so what is to be expected by allowing millions of untrained and unlicenced (not to mention insured) kids run wild on the roads whilst fueled with alcohol

And your (country) average mentality would be ? ... especially when you state things like ""personaly, I am amaized the death doll is so low"" I don't think you are most qualified to rate the mentality level of the people of the country you live in.

Typos my pedantic friend - typos! And for your personal information I consider myself well qualified to judge the mentality of Thais - being an observer for over 20 years.

However, to clarify, I think many 12 year olds from certain parts of the world are more developed and responsible - and more educated. Obviously you see things differntly since you - I assume - started to wear flipflops and reject your own culture. Many misfits seem to fit in here - your not alone.

PS A country does not have an average mentality, and I don't live in Thailand!

So you judge the mentality of people just by observing them from ...? i am living and working here since 25 years, and i guess i have a little insight at what kind of people thais are and i can tell you that you are not qualified, you are simply injuriating people because it makes you comfortable to feel superior. Hopefully you do not stay here as we do not need farangs of your stature. Call me a misfit if you wish (you seem to like calling people names), say i wear flipflop, tell me i reject my culture, i do not care what you think really, i wish you could have a life ... stay where you are and continue to judge.

Sorry all this is off topic, but some guys seem to be off content as well.

  8. Been here for the best part of almost 27 years now ... i never thought the thais could become self destructive as they are now. Perhaps it has always been in their inner self, and they feel like it is the time to get it all out... sad it may be but i guess every society has to grow through some sort of struggle.

The timing is obviously not good (worldwide recession), but i sincerely wish there will be some good coming out of all this and this country can at last become again the reason why i lived here for so long, however i have not such a good feeling about the near future.

  9. Precisions to go to Gold Mountain golf in lamphun

Take the superhighway to Lampang/Lamphun rd. You will know you are at Lamphun when you see the Big C on the right side near the over pass. Cross over the over pass and at the next set traffic lights (first) make a right turn. Follow the road and cross the railroad tracks to the next set of traffic lights and make a left turn. Then go about 13-15km, looking for the sign for NIDA (Blue with white)on the left. Make the left turn and follow it to the end T junction (approx 3 kms). Near the end of the road you will see the golf course on your left. At end of the road make a left turn and look for the sign for Gold Mountain a few hundred yards on the left. Turn left onto the dirt track/road and follow to the club house

  10. Where is the nearest golf course and driving range near Lamphun?

Nearest woud be : ''Gold mountain'' golf course ... just opened 18 holes. about 7 kms from Lamphun ... i am sure u can find directions by asking the locals ...

Khuntan lake, Khuntan marina on the raod lamphun/chiamgmai

  11. The requirements for development are two-fold. First, you must meet the financial requirements of $500,000 liquidity and $1 million net worth. Second, you or someone affiliated with your franchise group must have multiple-unit, quick-serve restaurant management experience. These requirements are for the 3-unit minimum development. The franchisee fee for each unit is $40,000.

Maybe I'm crazy but the fee's seem a little steep for an unknown company!

It is barely an unknown company. If you had traveled to central and south america they are everywhere !!

Of course in asia they are newcomers and established in China and indonesia so far ...

remember 20 years ago when thais never have heard of pizzas .... thais are always ready for new things and knowing 'pollo campero' it might well be a success story here. For the likes of people like the 'minor group', the franchise requirements are not steep at all ...

  12. My apology if this has been discussed before but can anyone shed some light on the fees involved in using one of the Foreign Currency accounts offered in some of the Thai banks? I believe it is $500 to open and then $500 min balance, but what about monthly fees, ATM fees, incoming wires to the account and so on? The information sheet is a bit confusing. I have been round and round with the reps at the banks and can not get a straight answer from any of them other than "yes" and a smile. :-) God bless them.

Also, do you know of any banks in Thailand that have a Foreign Currency account option and allow banking in Yuan?

    Thank you.

You can hold foreign currency accounts in thai banks. there is no minimum/maximum amount required. They give interests as well (based on currency denomination)

When you transfer from this account to thai baht ... no charge

when you transfer from overseas to your foreign currency account ... about 550 thai baht charge (or equivalent in currency)

Yuan ? i would not know

  13. I cannot believe it took until post 57 before the esteemed members of TV realised the date!! Very Good one this year boys and girls, by posting on a subject already in the news and close to many TV members hearts you were able to get a real rise from the first 56 posters.
