Those who were here in 2008/2009 will remember the huge impact that financial crisis had on the tourism sector. I'm not just talking numbers of tourists but more importantly the amount of money spent by each tourist.

I don't remember much about what you describe, because most of it didn't happen.

The actual, real "financial crisis" for Thailand and others was from 1997 onwards. They even call it the "tom yang koong" crisis, in honour of Thailand's leading role.

Rakesh Saxena is even back on the front pages today.

One of the reasons we are homeschooling our children. I have worked in Thailand as a teacher in the past, and made a promise to myself to never enroll my kids in the fascist Thai education system.

As confusing as "teachers" always are.

You are entirely happy to take money from the fascists of the Thai education system, but not to enrol your precious ones, or to even try to change/fix the fascist  system.

Excellent example of sheer hypocrisy. I hope your beloveds grow up and make you try to explain all that, which you cannot.

This law, introduced by Thaksin, is one of the most stupid ever enacted in Thailand. Utterly pointless, and a real turn-off for tourists/visitors/people generally. Thankfully ignored by many outlets, however this half-assed statement from today's government is almost as stupid as the original law.

The law was not introduced by Thaksin, who was in school when the law was introduced.

Presuming that you are thinking at all, you're thinking of a different regulation that was applied  (and still is) depending on the distance of the alcohol sale from schools, and had nothing to do with hours.

If the law dates from 1971 then it wasn't enforced.

If you don't know the answer to that question after 44 years of Thailand, perhaps you should step back for a while and attempt a smidgeon of education. Courses are easy to find and tuition is usually free - or maybe a bevvie at most.

That said, the law was ALWAYS enforced. But arbitrarily, depending upon the need. There's a course on that, too, if you feel the need.

  5. I don't know, I think if they had made me sit in the rain overnight and promised me I could watch a new Ratsadorn plaque, and then ordered me to go home, it's all over - I wouldn't be happy.

This is like a Suthep whistle rally in more ways than one. "This week is the last big rally where we emerge victorious over the vicious government." Oh, did I say "this week"? Oh, I meant the next rally after this one".

Peaceful rallies without ANY adult participation are useless fluff. The question is who's going to throw the first rock or fire the first round, and THEN we're in revolution times, maybe. This rally had no housewives, no actors and singers, no politicians, no defectors from the government, no business people. A few academics watched on TV and then bloviated, giving the media the only story they have.

It's not a waste of time, but there was never a chance for the 10 demands. And there won't be until circumstances change, probably via murderous violence, again.

They were told that if they comply with the story, they would get a lenient sentence

"They were told." No one told them, right?
Come on, these two men had a sterling defence team, including a strong PR team sending out "news" and propaganda twice a day or more.

Your theory means that a team of lawyers, the Andy Hall gang, the entire foreign and local media and tens of thousands of onlookers including the men's families were totally unaware of any such offer AND refused to tell anyone about it after the trial and the death sentences.
You have a very exclusive, front-page story there Mr CorpusChristie. Too bad you have zero evidence, zero backup of your claim.

Do they qualify after a few years in jail to be sent back to Myanmar to finish their sentence? Then they can tell the real story

So who stopped them from telling the real story? Their lawyers? Andy Hall? The several judges? Newspaper reporters who spoke with them? What is your theory of why they went through three court levels and spent years on death row, but still refused to tell anyone including their families "the real story"?

Since libel and slander are regarded as criminal matters here in LOS, the bar could have taken legal action against him which might have resulted in him being banged up in the Bangkok Hilton (or local equivalent) for an exceedingly long stretch, had he done as you suggested.

    Too true, partly.

Also true is that you cannot slander anyone or any establishment in a ThaiVisa post. You might have been thinking of "libel and defamation" and your fingers slipped and you mistakenly and misleadingly wrote "slander". But your point about libel is definitely worth consideration and defamation can stitch you up worse.

OH my God. The health Minister make a app. I hope he used real data.

No he didn't and neither did anyone in the ministry or the government.

My trust in this country is gone after his postings.

Why do you think this reported website or "app" has anything to do with the Health Ministry? Or the government?
The story is incredibly clear that it doesn't.

    Truly unbelievable.

No kidding. Possibly the worst translation in history. The original story did not focus on the statement like the TV translator. In the last paragraph of the original story, the policeman asked reporters if they had ever seen an internet romance scheme where a foreigner pretended to be Thai - intimating that he never had seen such a thing. He has investigated many such romance schemes, all of which involve Thais pretending to be foreigners.

    Are these Go-fund-me appeals genuine?

Some are and some aren't, rather obviously. What other answer is possible to such a question?

Is there any liability if someone just makes up a story and gets money off strangers for nothing?

    Supposedly. For example

"All donors who contributed to this GoFundMe campaign will receive a full refund," says GoFundMe spokesperson Bobby Whithorne in an email to Fast Company. "GoFundMe always fully protects donors, which is why we have a comprehensive refund policy in place."

    And for example

RCMP charge man with setting up fraudulent Humboldt Broncos GoFundMe
Man has been charged with 5 charges, including fraud and laundering
