  1. Been together 21 years, celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary this year.
  2. If the money is coming from the US then it will be subject to the 1% remittance tax if sent via Western Union. The sender pays the tax. If it is a bank to bank transfer the there is no tax. Wise has a good summary of what will be subject to this tax. https://wise.com/us/blog/remittance-tax
  3. It is the same for me but recently Wise has automatically defaulted to long term stay in Thailand. For my annual extension I provide a copy of my annual bank statement with the 12 monthly transfers highlighted. I don’t provide anything from Wise.
  4. If these parties are disbanded I don’t think that the military will directly step in. After these parties are gone the only ones left will be the pro-military parties with leaders that were in government after the last coup. The result will be that the military will control the government without actively start coup.
  5. Here in Chiang Rai the Kok river that goes through the northern part of the city is already at a high level. More rain could cause more flooding like last year. It was almost a week without clean water from the city since the flooding caused the filtering system to get clogged with mud.
  6. The same for me after my second retirement extension with the Chiang Rai immigration. Pictures of me, the IO and my passport standing in front of my house number. That was about 6 years ago. Nothing since then. They were down the street doing a home visit at my friend’s house for his marriage extension. They called and asked if I was home and they came over in less than 5 minutes.
  7. This is my understanding of how Thai elections work. I’m sure somebody will correct me if I have something wrong. Some MPs can be replaced. There are 2 types of MPs. Many are directly elected by the people. These cannot be replaced. Some MP seats are assigned to each party based on the number of votes the party gets during the election. The party then gets to assign the MPs from a list which was published before the election. These MPs can step down and the position will be filled from the party list. Cabinet reshuffles happen in another countries. In the US it happens quite often.
  8. I like the pizza at Vesuvio’s on soi 8 here in Bangkok. I order a margarita then add salsiccia and black olives. A couple of glasses of wine and finish it off with complimentary limoncello. For a change of pace I sometimes get a Chicago style deep dish pizza from Capone’s on soi 23. Back home in Chiang Rai I always go to Chef Sasa
  9. Back in 2018 I entered Thailand on a tourist visa. I then applied for a non imm o visa thinking I had enough pages to get the non imm o then towards the end of the 90 days get my retirement extension before getting a new passport. The IO pointed out that I could not use the last few pages because, as the OP pointed out, they were for endorsements not visa stamps. I managed to get my non o then immediately got a new passport before applying for my first retirement extension.
  10. We live in Chiang Rai and get our city drinking water comes from the Kok River. My wife already heard about the arsenic levels and has looked into the cost of drilling a well. I thought it was a crazy idea but now I’m not so sure. If I remember correctly, the cost wasn’t too bad.
  11. We have several houses we rent out. We are not allowed to carry out inspections. They rent the property and they do not have to let us into the property unless we suspect major damage. Several times we had Chinese tenants and for the most part they caused little damage except in one case. The main issue we have is cleaning after they move out. Due to the type of cooking they do the entire kitchen area tends to be covered in oil which is a pain to clean. We no longer rent to Chinese.
  12. I totally agree!
  13. Been watching it. I’m a life long Packer fan. Loved the opening with the bikes and Clay Matthews going off script. The Bears still suck! 😊
  14. Did mine the Tuesday before Songkran and received my approval the next day.
