  1. This is my understanding of how Thai elections work. I’m sure somebody will correct me if I have something wrong. Some MPs can be replaced. There are 2 types of MPs. Many are directly elected by the people. These cannot be replaced. Some MP seats are assigned to each party based on the number of votes the party gets during the election. The party then gets to assign the MPs from a list which was published before the election. These MPs can step down and the position will be filled from the party list. Cabinet reshuffles happen in another countries. In the US it happens quite often.
  2. I like the pizza at Vesuvio’s on soi 8 here in Bangkok. I order a margarita then add salsiccia and black olives. A couple of glasses of wine and finish it off with complimentary limoncello. For a change of pace I sometimes get a Chicago style deep dish pizza from Capone’s on soi 23. Back home in Chiang Rai I always go to Chef Sasa
  3. Back in 2018 I entered Thailand on a tourist visa. I then applied for a non imm o visa thinking I had enough pages to get the non imm o then towards the end of the 90 days get my retirement extension before getting a new passport. The IO pointed out that I could not use the last few pages because, as the OP pointed out, they were for endorsements not visa stamps. I managed to get my non o then immediately got a new passport before applying for my first retirement extension.
  4. We live in Chiang Rai and get our city drinking water comes from the Kok River. My wife already heard about the arsenic levels and has looked into the cost of drilling a well. I thought it was a crazy idea but now I’m not so sure. If I remember correctly, the cost wasn’t too bad.
  5. We have several houses we rent out. We are not allowed to carry out inspections. They rent the property and they do not have to let us into the property unless we suspect major damage. Several times we had Chinese tenants and for the most part they caused little damage except in one case. The main issue we have is cleaning after they move out. Due to the type of cooking they do the entire kitchen area tends to be covered in oil which is a pain to clean. We no longer rent to Chinese.
  6. I totally agree!
  7. Been watching it. I’m a life long Packer fan. Loved the opening with the bikes and Clay Matthews going off script. The Bears still suck! 😊
  8. Did mine the Tuesday before Songkran and received my approval the next day.
  9. Cracking down on the guides and the tour companies is fine but how about going after the Thai officials that are accepting the bribes. I didn’t see this mentioned in the article.
  10. Quite a bit of serious damage. Has the building been inspected and are people still living there? This is what I found after a quick search
  11. It’s been about 14 years since we looked into different construction companies. Right now is a good time to look at different high rises being built and high rises that sustained little our no damage. If everything looks good and the company has been around for awhile there’s a good chance that they follow the building codes.
  12. Thanks for the info! I think I’ll give it a try
  13. Spidermike, it sounds like Fanytel is something that may work for me. I need a US phone number at times to receive a verification code for purchases with my US credit card. I also receive a SMS when I log in to my Us Social Security account. At times I need to call my financial adviser or I need to pay bills via a phone call to the US. In all cases I need a consistent US phone number. Will Fanytel work?
  14. I agree that there are some Thai and Chinese companies that cut corners and do not follow codes. If you look around and you will see hundreds of high rises that are still standing with little or no damage. Our 27 story building has been examined by structural engineers and everything is fine. There a number of reliable construction companies working in Bangkok. We did a lot of research before we bought our condo years ago.
