Sometimes you just have to look at the bigger picture.

How many Thai's does this company employ on average and how many would lose their jobs if this company was no longer allowed to bid on contracts?

You are maybe missing the "bigger picture" if you think that if  ITD miss out on work in the form of big new contracts that there will be thousands without work.

The big  projects will still need doing , and anyone experienced in that kind of work have the opportunity to  simply sign up with the new  contract winner.

Premchai will never admit his guilt - and as long as he denies , he will never be 'proven guilty' as so many on here seem to require. What good is it to be a multimillionaire in Thailand  with the power to be able to make  evidence disappear and delay and delay court proceedings only to go out and short circuit it all by admitting guilt ??

  2. Well I wish this guy would chime in - but I dont think he is a member here.

He sold his 17 million baht villa for 15 mill (10 years later- so a neg capital situation  )  ,  but still made money because his X rate was down.

The same bank that carried the funds in (KBank ) , didnt want to carry the 15 mill out and for 9 days he was a very angry man.

He claims ( not me ) that without an 'influential' Thai  friend he made over the years who made calls  , his money would still be here.

He said he had no idea what an FET was when he bought as his lawyer had never mentioned it ..

A very pee'ed off guy who wont be back..

  3. Im with the posters above .

Im an ex-teacher and saw some great kids fumble , and one or two each year become almost unrecovarable.

Later I was  a father of 2 boys and wasnt going to let any transgressions of family rules go without comment,  be it reasoning (1st) , talking more loudly , or having to put my foot down ,  from day one.

I can go on ... through all the 'psychology of child development' and all the good parts and all the crap ... but the op is about a 14 year old , and this age to 18  is acknowledged as the toughest years by all and sundry when it pertains to keeping any kid , 'on task'.

The only thing I would offer up , and it cannot appear sudden , or fake , is to approach this thing with a 'carrot' as well as a 'stick'.

From my training , which I feel softened the harder times with my boys pubescence  , I  made myself learn to 'like' what they liked.

The younger was much tougher , but he loved football , so I made myself stop working on Saturdays  , and I even lied ,  so as he believed me , and said I scored free tickets thru work  to go and watch his team. He really liked that.

The older was a design freak at 16 , not that he was in any way a problem ... but to be fair to him , and also recognizing  he was 'detaching'  we 3 went to numerous art shows and furniture design exhibits that even my football boy seemed to enjoy.

The older one is gay now and doesnt want to speak to me anymore btw..( up to him -doesnt matter )...win some , lose some ... but it was never about Me. It was about seeing them through that troublesome age.

BUT my  point is that maybe you as a father could replace ( at the same time as seeing that the rules are firmly enforced ) your boys need to be noticed , or having something 'special' happen in his life each week.

You cant take away 'priviledges' if he doesnt think he doesnt have anything Special with you..

I would advocate  you make something , anything , "special " with him with no conditions , something of His interest , leave it a few months , let yourselves grow closer , and only after a few months use that as any kind of leverage . Hopefully never have to do so.

But invest more positive time with him.

Make time for him ( as subtley as possible ) and he will most likely value your words, and your rules ,  all the more highly..

He didn't have an effective travel insurance policy that covered him.

    Therein lies the issue.

A lot of policies are "time limited" .

    His obviously was.

    Caveat emptor

I havent read all the other responses - sorry - but its as simple as this.

Most travel insurance policies have a clause stating the period of time whereafter they 'determine'  that a person staying in a single country  is no longer a tourist .

The cheapest ones I looked at specified 60 days.

    Many were 90 days.

I ended up selecting 'Nomads World Travel Insurance'  because they CLEARLY stated they  had no time limit  specifications  in any country ...and were competitively priced at about 400 pound sterling.

Just as well. I had was hospitalised in Bkk , and they paid the whole bill of 220k baht with only 3 phone calls.

My only issue was that they were quite insistent I fly back home ( with a nurse in biz class - wherein  hospitals are free  ) as soon as I was released .

What sort of a map do they want?

I understand they have trouble reading a normal or google map, but want something hand drawn showing nearest 7/11s etc.

From my bank I have the letter about funds held,  a 6 month statement and photocopies of my bank book which would give any normal person the full picture of my financials here. I'll see if they want more.

Off topic , but just quickly...

I extended my Retirement Visa in Feb  at PTown and they handed me back my map , and pic .  Didnt even look at my lease etc.

The same guy ( skinny with glasses ,  waits out front )  said , "This year is all about the money. We want to see you spend money here."  He perused my spending of my 800k as shown as withdrawals in my bank book. He sent the old Canuk ( on a pension ) next to me  to copy his cash card , both sides and signed. This sounds like a possible breach of  bank security to me , but he didnt ask me to do the same. It was very quick compared to previous years.

  6. I keep reading , " the airline has to pay" , like the airline rep goes off and buys a 1st class ticket on  some other airline  on the very next plane heading back to the departure point , when surely they just stick the  refused passenger on any empty seat they have going back ... Sure , sometimes the next  return flight is full , but  any  following  one is at  most , at  'Cost' .

Theres a big difference between 'buying another ticket' , and transporting a passenger at cost.

And this is a side issue anyway - the staffs most important role is surely is to deal with any issue seamlessly , aiming to ensure future patronage for their Company no matter what obstacles need dealing with.

There is no place for ignorant or brash  staff most places , though  you can cope with it momentarily in a 7/11 or such.

Not so , of course  when you are about to spend many hours sitting in one of their aircraft...

Can you? Look at the photos. The injuries were of broken bones and lacerations. That suggests a rock and/or barnacles. Had it been a shark attack, the wounds would have been different with chunks of flesh missing. If a bone had been broken, then it would  follow that the  limb would have been ripped off. Sorry, but once there are broken bones with no shredded flesh with skin remnants, then I believe it was rocks and barnacles.  Remember, sharks do not chew. They bite and shake violently to tear off the food.

Sharks can bite and simply let go.

The even spacing of the lacerations indicate a shark bite  to me.

My close friend was bitten by a young Tiger shark in Australia many years ago and it was me who drove him to hospital. The cuts were the same , and the large laceration , where I think  the victim wriggled with fright , is almost identical to what I recall..

  8. It better be an exceptionally well built and maintained property to be worth living in at 30 years old in Thailand.

As an aside , "reasons friends of mine have given up on their rental properties and moved this past 6 months."

    * "The previously quiet condo development has turned into a hotel  this High Season and Russian kids are allowed run amock at the pool till all hours. The landlord says he wont do anything about it... I think he wants to rent it out shorter term as well.."

    * "Im not against anyone having their religion , but the masajid ( mosque ) has put new speakers opposite our rental..."

And heres a classic ..."The place on the corner to our Soi has a carport at front , and the people  have taken to butchering a cow  there weekly . The kids have freaked , and when I asked around I found out it was the Or Bor Tors sisters house. So we're moving .."

Imagine 'owning' any  property even near  these places ...

  9. Saw it  pass by in Surin yesterday with maybe 12 on board.

    The LED is noticeable!

I think the 500 baht up front is an odd thing to do.

Certainly tourists will think twice about paying 500 baht on the strength it may be used more than once.

And its already been said that for families or groups its not competitive.

But if its finally replacing the old sontaew routes along the coast at a reasonable cost , and "Big Phuketians'  ( meaning it and its drivers  is 'protected' ) are behind it , it cant be a bad thing.

I'd like to see clearer demarked stops and time tables and more public promotion..

"Phuket has progressed since then" - really????  I don't think so.

"you'll read that 25 investors from influential Phuket families are involved" - these are the same people that screwed western tourists for transport for decades.  Right????

Now that they are losing money, they want to throw a few crumbs to western tourists in the hope they return to Phuket.

It's going to take a lot more than a few of these buses to lure that segment of the market back.

"Losing money" , who is losing money ?

And what business that is losing money decides to go into throw crumbs instead of picking them up ?

What about you have a visit and take a look?

I hope this service expands exponentially !
