  1. I was at immigration yesterday and some visa agent (i think) just walked right in front of me and put his paperwork in the front of the agent even though my number was called.

It reminded me of how much I hate getting cut in front of. I also happened at that super-market in the bottom floor of MBK. I was standing in line for like 10 minutes in the pastry section and some bastard walked right in front of me. If that happened in the States I would tell him to F*** off but here what to do?

Seems I see people cutting in line all the time. It really doesn't affect me at all, but just the idea makes me want to do something.

Is this just me? Or is this an issue in Bangkok? Or have I just not let go of my USA attitude?

I believe in simply moving back in front of the offender BUT i think it is important to try to contain any emotion about it all ( me jai yen). If they push back in then they now know you are very aware of what they are doing and could prove dangerous, then best to let it go...

  2. You do not need to be guilty to pay a bribe.

I was late for my flight at Hkt to go back to Aus. and the Immigration officer knew it.

He slowed down to a snails pace to check my entry satmps, then decided that 'maybe something wrong'.

Seeing my angst, he suggested I buy a talisman at 500 baht from him and then I would get luck and make my flight.

I bought it and ran to the plane , boarding as they closed the doors...

    That talisman really worked.....

  3. I also am very relieved, this should go some way to return the capital to normality.

...I dont know what democracy you come from, but isnt the idea that the voters let the party that won the elections by majority govern?

It may be a little inconvenient, but you give them their term and then vote again???

If the leader is amiss or unpopular, its up to the party to replace him?

Geez, I dont agree with any of them, but let the model stand , and let the people follow the rules of democracy rather than to capitulate to half cocked policies and it will all slowly head for the better...

  4. My brother was on Jetstar JQ27 due in at 20.20 last nite from Sydney and redirected to BKK. Jetstar did a great job housing all passengers in the Rama Gardens Hotel. A meeting today announced a reappraisal of conditions at 6pm today but at 3pm , Australian officials admitted they had little confidence in the prevailing conditions and offered to organise 12 seater o/nite minibuses departing around 5pm from BKK to Phuket at customers expense.

He called and asked, " Is it safe there? Another passenger has asked me to ask you why this PAD are picking on tourists?"

May seem naive to us living here, but that is the perceptions of these Tourists...

  5. Hi everyone, Im new here...

I am slowly teaching myself Thaiand there is nothing like the eloquence of the self-taught...

I was greeted at my favourite Thai restaurant by the owner and she looked frazzled and I replied "Sawadee Kup Nit, yoong kuen ni mai?" She hurried off and returned with a can of personal insect repellant and slapped it on the table.

    Puzzled...

It was much later she explained I had said "Mosquitoes tonight" when I had meant "Busy tonight?"
