It would be nice to hear some reports on the food and dining experiences from people who have actually eaten at both places as opposed to continuing the various "mysteries" of the mystery restaurants . . . licklips.gif

Myself and several others I know have had Sophon fiber-broadband for over a year. Very little down-time and they are prompt in responding to service calls when needed. Some of their brief outages are due to CAT, which serves as their ISP.

I have their 4Mb service for 690 per month. If they still have the same deal-- if you pay one year up front, they give you the cable-modem for free and installation is 750 Baht. You should also get an Ethernet Router, which they will sell you at a premium price, or you can get a basic non-wireless unit at Tukcom for around 1100 Baht.

Their office is on Pattaya Tai between TukCom and 3rd Rd. on the opposite side from TukCom.

    necronx99,

The google coordinates were very general and didn't identify WHERE on a property of 5 large buildings the restaurant was located. The address was useless in terms of finding the place.

The map was added to their facebook page just recently-- after the suggestion was made here. The comments you're referring to were made before jombom's word description of the location AND the map were posted.

Schweppes Tonic available today at undisclosed condo mini-mart at confiscatory price of 25 Baht per can.

Might be a signal that it's becoming available again in the general marketplace.

If the 100K qualifies as "worldwide income" and has not already been taxed by the IRS, there's no viable way around paying the taxes that you owe.

If not, or whatever remains after taxes-- I'd suggest investing in the top ten Dividend Champions (solid U.S. companies that have consistently raised their dividends over the past 25 years). Currently paying around a 5.8% yearly dividend yield.

Foolproof method to avoid being "stunned"

    1) Pack yourself into the back of the pick-up truck with your fellow sardines.

    2) Don't talk to anyone and especially avoid annoying the stun-gunner.

    3) Proceed to your destination.

    4) Exit the pick-up truck.

It's true that in Thailand, stylized maps are used many times instead of geographically accurate maps. It drove me crazy when I first moved here because I didn't know where anything was located. A perfect example was when a friend from the States sent me an eMail and wanted to book a hotel at Cozy Beach because the map showed that it was right at the south end of Walking St.

In the case of the map I posted here, it has landmarks that almost anyone should be able to identify (Arch, Shenanigans, Hanuman Statue, 7-11, Family Mart) -- so imho, if anyone can't effectively use this map to locate the restaurant, they probably should not be permitted to eat out in restauants . . . smile.png

  8. "We are in Rimhat Jomtien Beach Condos S2 Building 1st Floor in Rm 4"

Thanks for posting your comments in this thread. When the thread first started, it seems that some people didn't even know where Jomtien Beach Condos were located. Since your location is off-the-beaten-path-- it would be helpful to have a map as opposed to the very vague Google GPS coordinates. Especially since there are five large buildings on the property -- it's doubtful that many people know which one is "S2". For people using Baht-Bus transport and having to walk onto the property, a specific map would be very useful.

Two other Jomtien restaurants that I'm aware of were off the main roads and had the same problem. Below is a map that one of them came up with. If you posted a similar well-drawn map on your Facebook page, it would be much easier for people to find Thai-Texan.

I learned the association with Texas to the restaurant's name. The owners and chefs are two Thai ladies (mother and daughter) who lived in Texas for 25 years-- thus "Thai Texan". No relation to Texas food.

Much like Tequila Reef doesn't serve reefs and La Bocca probably doesn't serve Boccas. I hope this revelation doesn't short-circuit the comprehension capabilities of the self-professed T-V food critic(s) . . . smile.png

"Maybe we can chat more about it at a FF-ing "foodie" event"

I haven't attended in quite some time but I get reports from friends who are regulars. If you want to know the truth, I doubt you'd be welcome.

"I seriously doubt the Frugal Freddy group can be characterized as a foodie organization ... let's face it, their choices are highly limited by low price"

Yet another errant uninformed judgement. The FF moniker is simply a whimsical euphemism. Yes some of their restaurant choices would be considered "frugal", but others are quite up-scale -- easy to spend 500 to 1000 Baht without batting an eye. Uninformed people should probably not be so quick to judge others . . .

"I've read on here people getting Sophon in various apartments and guesthouses in bkk"

Sophon is the local cable TV company in Pattaya that only services that area. Whatever you saw that referenced Sophon in BKK was either a misunderstanding or erroneous information.

"Armchair Experts Pattaya is full of them"

True, but people who don't know what they're talking about-- or intentionally post untruthful or erroneous information with the intent of deceiving other T-V members, should be banned from posting for at least a month, imho.

Paid Jomtien electric bill this afternoon at 7-11 next to Hanuman Statue. No problem - business as usual - in and out in 2 minutes.

The girl DID appear to check the valid date range at the bottom of the bill before processing.

    .

  15. .

Checked Jomtien-Foodmart late this afternoon - no Schweppes Tonic. Beverage manager says "long time no have - cannot get from Bangkok" -- Checked two mom & pop shops that are always well stocked - nothing. Same-same "long time no have - all Pattaya same"

Obviously info reported earlier in this thread was B.S. -- Imo, people intentionally reporting erroneous information should be given a posting holiday!

    .

  16. .

So, based on the most recent reports-- the whole boondoggle was a result of people trying to pay their bill at 7-11 outside the authorized January 27 to February 5 payment window. Case closed?

    .

  17. .

According to the girl who processes the electric bills in the building in Jomtien where live -- the active period for paying the bills is from the 27th to the 5th of the month. If she's correct, possibly the 7-11 system only accepts bills in that date range. I just received my January bill and the dates 27 and 5 are clearly stated at the bottom of the bill (along with some Thai gibberish) ohmy.png
