  2. Hi All,

Will be arriving in CM mon 1st feb and staying in the area for a week or so with my mum.I want to rent a car while we are there, can anyone reccomend a good ,reliable company? we will arrive at the airport.

Many people (Thais) have told me not to drive in CM as it is dangerous I have driven in Bangkok and Issan for years with no problems....are they over reacting?

    Thanx.....

  3. KL is the best choice as you know the rules - 100k in a bank account and the normal paperwork should get a one year visa. Can you meet the 400k or 40k requirements for extension of stay inside Thailand? That is the best option for most people if they can.

    thanx for the post

yes I can meet the 400k in Thai account, BUT.....I do some part time work (no W/P) and as you have to draw map to your house I don't like the Idea of "them" turning up when I'm in a shirt and tie or me not being there and the neighbours saying he's "at work"

I feel it's "safer" to get a non o outside Thailand and do a border run every 90 days.

  4. Hi All,

my non "O" (marriage) expires in mid feb.I was thinking about a trip to China has anyone got a non "0" from china? If so your story would be appreciated.

I have 400k in the bank and will be taking the wife with me.

I am also interested in India, sri lanka or anywhere in the region but not too near.

    destinations not on my list are;

laos ,cambodia, vietnam, malaysia(like indonesia but think it'll be too rainy in feb?)

thanx in advance for any suggestions.

  5. Hi All,

Has anyone here bought Thai gold in BKK? I'm sure Chinatown is the place to go, I want to buy small amounts of gold 2 or 5 baht "bars" I have seen them shaped like chinese boats or more plain.

What is the best "shape" to buy and does it matter which shop you buy from? do prices vary much?

    Can anyone reccomend a shop?

Thanx in advance for any help.

  6. HI

Anyone know the best place to sell books in BKK? I have over 70, mostly novels.I thought a bookshop on Khao Sarn Rd might be the best bet? Anyone done this before? how much can i expect to get?

    Thankx for any advice given...

  7. Changes in skin pigmentation in users of BC pills is thought to be due to the estrogen content.

It does unfortunately tend to recur if it has happened once but using a pill wioth a lower estrogen dose, toegther with scrupulous use of sunscreen, may help.

Diane contains 35 mcg of an estrogen, which is comparatively high. Alternative brands that contain only 20 mcg include:

    Mercilon (20 mcg)

    Lindynette20 (20mcg - do not confuse with Lindynette30!)

Annylynn21 or Annylynn28 (20 mcg) - these are the same, difference is the -28 form

includes placebos to take on the "off days"which aids in remembering

Mercilon 21 or Mercilon 28 (ditto)

    Meliane

    Yaz

The above are all quite similiar to what your wife took previously except for being lower in dose so she would likely tolerate well. However need to un derstand that with the lower dose pills the risk of pregnancy if a dose is forgotten is much higher than with the medium dose she previously took. Best to use condoms for rest of cycle if a pill is forgotten.

The discoloration is due to a combined effect of the estriogen plu sunlight so a strong sunblock will help.

If despite lower dose and sunblock the discoloration recurs, the other option is to try a progestin only pill (most pills contain a combination of an estrogen and a progestin). Brand names include Exluten and Hylan. These differ significantly from what she has previously taken so no telling if will suit her or not.

Should definitely consult a doctor about advisibility of using pills if she has high blood pressure, smokes, or has a family history of breast cancer.

Thank you for a very informed and comprehensive answer

  8. Hi All,

My wife has been off the pill for a year or two and wants to go back on.The problem is that the last time she took it she developed darker skin above her top lip!!!

The brand she was on at that time was called Diane can anyone reccomend a brand that won't have this effect?

thankx in advance for any suggestions

  9. plachonubon, get the neem oil base from soaking the leaves of a Sadao tree in water overnight or longer. Then, like I said:

1 litre of warm, neutral-PH water

5 ml of pure neem oil

2 ml of emulsifier, Safer soap, insecticidal soap, even dish soap as long as it's not antibacterial

Combine, shake like crazy before using.

OK, got it? Now please answer me this: Somewhere on this site I saw you mention that blackstrap molasses was available at Villa Market in Bangkok. Do they still have it and do you know if Villa in Pattaya have it also (or can order it) ??? Thanks

I bought blackstrap mollasas in villa mart about 6 months ago (off the shelf)

  10. My wife had similar problems and made the huge mistake of going to a so-called board-certified dermatologist in Pattaya. He gave her laser treatment and then prescribed a cream to be applied twice a day. Within days the area he treated turned dark brown, most likely the result of overproduction of melanin in her fair northern Thai complexion, whereas beforehand all she really had were some faint beauty spots. He of course declined to accept any responsibility for her sudden change and we quickly left him behind...considering him a quack. I do not want to reveal his name on TV for fear of libel, but if you PM me I will arrange a phone conversation and give you the particulars.

Her cheeks remained this same ugly dark brown color for nearly six months and gradually faded away--or was replaced by new skin. She licked her wounds and we moved away to Chiang Mai and her complexion normalized over time. I tell you this because not all Thai skin is the same and what may help one person may well cause disfigurement in others. Looking like a human raccoon, My wife had to wear a headcarf around town for about two months and of course this truly is an anguishing experience for any woman but so much more so in the LOS because of the abnormal media and cultural attention given to attaining a perfect complexion. In the West one can easily bring such a charlatan to court and sue for damages, but in Thailand litigation of this sort would have been viewed as as frivolous. It could easily have been us paying him damages for maligning his name and practice.

Make absolutely sure you locate a doctor who has treated thousands of patients with the same symptoms and skin type as your wife presents. Caveat Emptor is very much the right phrase for this kind of medical care in Thailand. There are certainly qualified and experienced practicioners in Bangkok to be found.

Since that unfortunate time in Pattaya, we have discovered a very renowned and successful dermatologist in Chiang Mai; he is also medical professor and many Thai dermos consult his services on special cases. He has helped me clear up a late-breaking bout of psoriasis when nobody else could and I am aware that he does a lot of acne-related treatments. I'll be glad to provide his contact data if you request it.

    Good luck!

Thanks for your detailed reply, my wife's problem is only minor and I have heard other horror stories similar to yours.

I am certainly not in a hurry to start any therapy until I'm happy that it wont cause damage to her skin.

Glad to hear that no permanent damage was sustained in your case.

  11. A clergyman walking down a country lane and sees a young farmer struggling to load hay back onto a cart after it had fallen off.

"You look hot, my son," said the cleric. "why don't you rest a moment, and I'll give you a hand."

"No thanks," said the young man.

    "My father wouldn't like it."

"Don't be silly," the minister said.

"Everyone is entitled to a break. Come and have a drink of water."

Again the young man protested that his father would be upset. Losing his patience, the clergyman said, "Your father must be a real slave driver. Tell me where I can find him and I'll give him a piece of my mind!"

"Well," replied the young farmer, "he's under the load of hay."

ahhhh ummmm ????????? :o is there a special name for jokes like these?
