  1. there must be a lot of expat's without visa's then :)

    Yes there are ! Some of them go home once a year to get a new non-immigration visa IO and report at the local police station. They never go to any immigration office.

    Others come here on some short time visa. Stay three or four months and then go home to work.

    I guess that about 150-200 who are residing permanent is true.

  2. Saab 340B Plus was an improved version of the Saab 340B. Some units have a wider wingspan. (340B-360 to 340B-459). The first one with the wider wingspan was delivered in 1995.

    Production of all 340 models ended in 1999, and Saab ceased all civil aircraft production in 2005.

    :)

  3. Hello Martin !

    We met at Kap Cheung this year in april I think. Exchanged some jokes about Sweden. Your wife as a true thai told my wife about your problems. Might be my wife knew some cure or some magician you should visit. My sister in law here in Thailand is an expert of the evil eye.

    I hope you will have many more years. My brother in law in Sweden had the same problem a couple of years ago. He feels OK now. Maybe the new flue will catch him. Or maybe it will catch me. You never know. :)

  4. It seems to be that Thai's look at Pattaya as if its something to aspire to and be proud of.

    Where as, us ferangs see (& maybe use) a more sordid dark side of the place.

    Dave

    They are very proud of Pattaya. It is the only place in Thailand which is really known all around the world. What I really miss at those "lakes" all around in Isaan and elsewhere are some small sailing vessels or wind surfing boards where the kids and grown ups can learn to really enjoy the water sports. At least in Buriram there is a lot of wind.

  5. What happened ? I had the same error (duplicates) in on of the last computer programs I made when I was still at work !

  6. Can anyone please give me any information this place and how to get there from Bangkok? It looks like I might have to fly to Udon Thani, how many flights a day and how much? How much further is it from Udon Thani? Any thing would be helpful is Sang Khom a big place? Thanks in advance for any help.

    There seem to be two different SangKhom !

    Is it this one in UdonThani province on the border to NongKhai ?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphoe_Sang_Khom

    or is it this one in NongKhai province on the border to Loei ?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphoe_Sangkhom

    Good luck. Keep us informed please !

  7. Maestro !

    I took a closer look at your Google Map. The pointer to Kap Choeng there is to a village with the same name but within amphoe Prasat.

    The immigration office is along road 214 in amphoe KapChoeng southeast of Prasat on the way to the border crossing.

  8. Nomad97, seeing that you were recently at the Kap Choeng immigration office I would like to ask you a favour. I have this dream of putting all Thai immigration offices on Google Maps but the address given by the Immigration Bureau, though very detailed, is insufficient to locate in on Google Maps, which for Surin does not even have street names.

    This is the address I have:

    229 Surin - changjom road,

    Amphoe Kap Choeng

    Changwat Surin 32210

    In Thai:

    229 ถ.สุรินทร์ - ช่องจอม

    อ.กาบเชิง

    จ.สุรินทร์ 3221

    The closest I can get on Google Maps is the general area of Amphoe Kap Choeng:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...=15&iwloc=A

    This is how you can give me the coordinates for the Kap Choeng immigration office:

    1. On Google Maps, right click on the exact spot where the immigration office is.
    2. Click on "Center map here"
    3. At the top right of the screen, click on "Link"
    4. Copy (Ctrl+C) the text in the field "Paste link in email or IM"
    5. Paste (Ctrl+V) that text into your reply in this here topic.

    Thank you very much.

    Maestro

    There is a good description of the KapChoeng immigration pinned above as Information On Lower Isaan

    You take the road 214 from Prasat to KapChoeng. Just after the amphur building and the police station on the right hand side of the road there is a big sign post saying "Immigration office" and pointing in to the right.

    When you enter the area the imigration is located up on a small hill to your left. The building is no longer pink but painted the same white as the other houses.

  9. They came today. They come once a year. They have their own form. Nothing to do with immigration except that they always come a week or two after that I have renewed my permit to stay. Does immigration ask the local police to check out my address ? :):D

    I live in northern Buriram 200 km away from my immigration office.

    As for the ink. Spit on your fingers and rub it off with some tissue paper.

  10. A bit of bar talk is that we are supposed to be getting a OFFICE in Buriram in the future which will save those trips to Kap Chong every 90 days.

    Has any one else any info on this? :D

    No info at all. Bar rumors I guess or very much in the future. I will believe it when I see it. :)

  11. You can not be registered in the housebook. It is only for thai people. The owner of the house (your wife ?) should report to the police that you live with them and the police have a form TM 30 to fill in with your name, passportnumber etc.

    You should be able to use a copy of this paper as evidence of your adress fot tax purpose in your home country.

    Myself when I came from Sweden to live here I just told the tax officer in Sweden that I lived c/o my wife and that I could not be legally registred as a household member.

    I gave the address and telephone number to call if they liked to. They accepted that without any objections.

  12. THANKS FOR ALL UR HELP GUYS,,SOME INTERESTING REPLIES THERE,I SHALL TAKE HEED,DIDNT KNOW IT WOULD BE SO DIFFICULT....MAYBE LOOK INTO BUYING BAR NOW IN PATTAYA LOL

    Sell sand to the Arabs. More chance of turning a profit. Check out other posts and the reactions to this suggestion. Never known anyone 'happily' running a bar. Even the farming equipment would make money twice a year.

    As a matter of fact ! A Swedish guy did that. Sold pebbles to the Arabs !!

  13. What do you have now every day in Satuk ?

    Out of topic but !

    The one and only (Ingo) left us yesterday ! I met him, I met Floyd and I met Liston. Not in any boxing ring but socially in Gothenburg. Nice guys all of them ! Believe me !

  14. i was wondering if anybody else has had any resporiety problems in feb due to all the burn off.

    This map was published last week in European newspaper. The headline was "The brown cloud". I guess the burn off of rice stubble and sugar canes will add to your (and mine) troubles.

    post-53941-1233054766_thumb.jpg

  15. I might need some turn. I guess about 30sqm approx and I wonder if anyone knows if I can buy this and if so, what the likely cost would be.

    Thanks

    On the road out of town direction Phutthaisong immediately after the railwaycrossing are som nurseries. They sell almost everything.

  16. Good day all,

    I am selling up down here in Hua Hin and planning to move to the Chaiyaphum area. I would consider all options such as buying land and building on it, buying a new house or just renting a nice place.

    I will be spending 2 nights a week in Bkk for business reasons.

    Anyone living in the area, any advice would be greatfully received

    You are welcome !

    I moved to Buriram three years ago from Hua Hin and I don't miss it. I guess the best advice is first to rent something in Chaiyaphum or in Korat and then just look around for something you like. The area south of Korat is very nice. The immigration office in Korat is very convenient and with a nice staff.

    Well this sounds as if I am recommending the Korat area. I guess I do.

    Which means of travel do you have to go to Bangkok twice a week ? And excuse me if I am nosey ! Where do you live in Hua Hin ? :o

  17. Kantarawichai was the place :D but that river rings a bell too.Does it run past the white temple(not far from where i stayed) then right behind the Big C?

    Yep, that's the Chi river.

    I'd be interested in attending any get together in Sarakham arranged on this board (it seems to attract pretty happy/relaxed individuals; or maybe it's just the type of person this region appeals to...), and I even have a suggestion for venue: Since it's difficult to arrange for a group of strangers whose numbers are murky at best, how about one of the all-you-can-eat fried meat buffets (neua yang gowree - please forgive my attempts at Romanizing the Thai language) like "Ping" located close to the clock tower or any of the other ones on Khamrieng or SriSawat Road? Live music, set price for food, cheap drink, and beer-of-the-month girls... just a thought!

    Sounds like a plan.....anybody up for this Friday or Saturday ?? (16th 0r 17th).

    Could be nice. Friday or Saturday two weeks after (30th or 31th) are OK too. Name a day and a place. It will be my first time in the town of MahaSarakham so I am open for (almost) anything. :o

  18. Which war ? There have been so many.

    If you mean the big one in Europe in the fortieth I guess I mostly wet my nappies and listened to the american bombers who had been hit coming back from Germany gathering for the return trip to GB over the southern part of Sweden. I still remember the sound every night. Some of them decided that enough is enough and took a holiday i Sweden instead of going back for other raids.

    After that I went to school an became an mechanical engineer and worked mostly in Sweden.

    Military service for no more than a year.

    My first marriage in Sweden lasted for 25 years. 2 grown up children who like to come visiting even though it is far away.

    A lot of adventures hitchhiking and biking (pedalbike) through all of Europe including the eastern part except for the USSR during the years from 1957 until 1995.

    In 1995 I was sent to Malaysia for work. First time ever in southeast Asia. I met my current thai wife when I was touring around after a trip to Kuala Lumpur.

    Finally I retired with her to Buriram. I have had a good life and I am not twisted and I am not bitter in any ways that I am aware of.

  19. During the past couple of years I have observed a different type of farang here. Very little is mentioned about this type. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He never held a decent job in his life and never will. He cost his family a lot of money because he had a lot of time at home to get into all sorts of trouble. Trouble in western countries is quite expensive. His family has saved a lot of money by allowing him to move to Thailand. He receives a monthly allowance and doesn't have a huge pocket full of money to lose. In fact, towards the end of the month he is frequently broke. Take a look at your acquaintances and see how many of this type you recognize.

    Well I have never seen anyone like that here in northern Buriram. I guess they live in the big towns where they can find people who listen to them. Where did you see them ?? There was a nice german visiting here last week. I had no problems with him and I hope he will come back !

    I guess my only problem just now is "Why is it so cold ????"

  20. This is the beginning of the poem Havamal ! There are 164 verses altogether. Enjoy it !

    1. At every door-way,

    ere one enters,

    one should spy round,

    one should pry round

    for uncertain is the witting

    that there be no foeman sitting,

    within, before one on the floor

    2. Hail, ye Givers! a guest is come;

    say! where shall he sit within?

    Much pressed is he who fain on the hearth

    would seek for warmth and weal.

    3. He hath need of fire, who now is come,

    numbed with cold to the knee;

    food and clothing the wanderer craves

    who has fared o'er the rimy fell.

    4. He craves for water, who comes for refreshment,

    drying and friendly bidding,

    marks of good will, fair fame if 'tis won,

    and welcome once and again.

    5. He hath need of his wits who wanders wide,

    aught simple will serve at home;

    but a gazing-stock is the fool who sits

    mid the wise, and nothing knows.

    6. Let no man glory in the greatness of his mind,

    but rather keep watch o'er his wits.

    Cautious and silent let him enter a dwelling;

    to the heedful comes seldom harm,

    for none can find a more faithful friend

    than the wealth of mother wit.

    7. Let the wary stranger who seeks refreshment

    keep silent with sharpened hearing;

    with his ears let him listen, and look with his eyes;

    thus each wise man spies out the way.

    8. Happy is he who wins for himself

    fair fame and kindly words;

    but uneasy is that which a man doth own

    while it lies in another's breast.

    9. Happy is he who hath in himself

    praise and wisdom in life;

    for oft doth a man ill counsel get

    when 'tis born in another's breast.

    10. A better burden can no man bear

    on the way than his mother wit;

    'tis the refuge of the poor, and richer it seems

    than wealth in a world untried.

    11. A better burden can no man bear

    on the way than his mother wit:

    and no worse provision can he carry with him

    than too deep a draught of ale.

    12. Less good than they say for the sons of men

    is the drinking oft of ale:

    for the more they drink, the less can they think

    and keep a watch o'er their wits.

    13. A bird of Unmindfulness flutters o'er ale feasts,

    wiling away men's wits:

    with the feathers of that fowl I was fettered once

    in the garths of Gunnlos below.

    14. Drunk was I then, I was over drunk

    in that crafty Jötun's court.

    But best is an ale feast when man is able

    to call back his wits at once.

    15. Silent and thoughtful and bold in strife

    the prince's bairn should be.

    Joyous and generous let each man show him

    until he shall suffer death.

    16. A coward believes he will ever live

    if he keep him safe from strife:

    but old age leaves him not long in peace

    though spears may spare his life.

    17.<A name=17> A fool will gape when he goes to a friend,

    and mumble only, or mope;

    but pass him the ale cup and all in a moment

    the mind of that man is shown. 18.http://' target="_blank"> He knows alone who has wandered wide,

    and far has fared on the way,

    what manner of mind a man doth own

    who is wise of head and heart.
