The buildings will probably stay empty for 2 or 3 years...look at other places with a boom...Samui...no end of empty town/shop houses and developments...Hua Hin, exactly the same but on a lesser scale as it is still reasonably busy. I think the only real tourist destination that has acomplished a sense of logic is Cha am....some real good developments and all sold out...even now new businesses opening on a daily basis, some real large hotels built and full at present. They may not have Macdonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut etc but maybe this could be the secret to attracting real paying tourists that actually offer the local environment something rather than just proping up girlie bars and massage parlours

....Perhaps farang run businesses should also adopt dual pricing and charge Thai's extra for the extra costs imposed by all the rules and regulations to set up a business here and having to employ 4 Thai staff to every foreigner employed. I know we live in Thailand, but the same argument of business choice and practices could be employed to defend the rights of the foreign business to equally determine their own pricing structures. This would not last long before a visit from an off duty ploliceman etc, but charging foreigners more is seen as completely acceptable!!

This statement highlights your complete lack of understanding of economics and how business actually works.

In reality, most of the alleged "discrimination" people feel they have been subjected to is merely free market pricing based on what the seller thinks the buyer will pay. No doubt that thinking is heavily based on nationality profiling (not racism). The problem is people have been raised in culture where "flexible" pricing has been pretty much done away with in past 50 years or so.

People, this is a different culture with different rules.

Correct me if I am wrong, the 3rd stall down on the right in Khoa Sarn road sells the neccesary documents at 350 Baht for employment as a doctor. Anyone who has saved that much will of course want to defend their position and not loose it to someone that is not willing to pay for qualifications but would prefer to save money and study for them

Mainland is common for the police to be outside schools in morning and the afternoon for safety of the children, direct traffic etc.....Children as young as eleven arriving on motorbikes...4 up and no helmut and the police not do anything. Unless laws are enforced nothing will happen. But when both parents are at work maybe 6.30am how do children get to school...easy on motorbike with some friends, nothing will change.

How many SQM. We used the same as you with the manure but that was awful and creted endless hours of weeding. About 9 months of hard work and now only ok. The other smaller areas of grass we have just used the bags you can buy at the garden shop...100 baht/7 bags....not the cheapest way but it seems to be better....also once the grass has taken get the white pellets, sprinkle them over and water in..the grass does go a little brown in places at first but after a week or so it really gets thicker and greener...they cost 20Baht in a simple polythene bag...dont put too much on

Havnt been there for a while but there used to be a guy on the corner of Nai Naoi that started at 2,000 for long term....the bikes were a few years old but newer started at 2.500....just as you turn in it is on the right hand side...dont know his name or if he is still there...they are honda waves by the way...autos a little more

Maybe he gave it to his girlfriend to buy a house or car. Maybe he gambled it away. Maybe he owed money to people. Many possibilities. I just think there is a greater percent possibility that the foul play was self-inflicted.
