  1. Agree, the website is slow.  Today seems to be loading faster (or maybe that's just me).  Their FB page is advertising a sale throughout May (ie. opening a new showroom) on Ram Indra 23.  (AGALDECOR).

I saw a modern condo decorated head to tail with their stuff.  Was nice, but felt a bit too much....but maybe that's just me.

  2. If you copy / paste the Thai words from the app - กองโรคติดต่อทั่วไป -

Google has it listed this way -

Bureau of General Communicable Diseases, Department of Disease Control, MOPH, Thailand VG3H+83P, Tambon Bang Khen, Mueang Nonthaburi District, Nonthaburi 11000

    These are the co-ordinates - 13.853305141101103, 100.52754765468062

I cant find it listed in the Grab app - may need to go to a nearby landmark.

Apple TV gen 4 links to multiple streaming services. Many of which are not available in Thailand. I access Apple TV’s own channels, Netflix, Prime. It is also useful to stream stuff from Apple I pad apps such as Australian ABC Iview. But I cannot stream SBS On Demand because I can’t install a VPN to the router. I also find British streaming services impossible to access. I think it is far more than a set top box, if you have other Apple tech.

Smartdnsproxy .com maybe worth a look.  ie. you enter their DNS number on the Apple TV.  Believe you can try before you pay up for a subscription.... - I havent tried it but they show SBS on Demand as being accessible..

If you do get it - every once in a while - you'll need to go reactivate it on the Smart DNS site, and power down/power up the Apple TV.... when the application says "not available" in your region.

  4. - If IoS - Overcast is well rated.  You can search for your specific podcast, and listen to it in Overcast...

What I like - Free, Adjustable speed playback, playlists, ability to fine tune, which podcasts to retain etc. ... manually add links etc, ability to download / stream.

    - If Android - Stitcher maybe worth a look.  Stitcher is also available for IoS.

In general, after you install these apps, use the app's built in function to search for the podcast you like.... and locate the episode that way.

You can continue - clicking a link to listen to the app - but it'll depend on whether that link is a smart link (ie. recognizes the ios/app you have and directs you to the right format for the app), or some specific format.

  5. For what it is worth, I had 2 Daikin inverter, cassette types installed by a 3rd party vendor.  They cool well and almost right away from the start.  Hopefully, the techs can try and sort it out.

As an aside, I tried two 3rd party programmable remotes (not the Daikin Supplied ones) .... one of them could never engage the compressor... just fan air.  Doubt this is your issue.

Have been told by a "crypto expert" more caution is required with the X because of its Bluetooth capabilities. I personally use the S.

Fully agree - I would turn off the bluetooth feature totally .... and just stick to connecting it like a Nano S.  Only reason to get an X is space....and that too probably for someone needing to access their coins often enough.

  7. Strongly recommend a Ledger (Hardware Wallet).  Ideally buy direct from the manufacturer, but given that we are in TH, SIAMBC is a reputable re-seller.   https://siambc.com/product-category/ledger/

Nano S - for THB 2,390 (if you are just looking at 2-3 apps concurrently...). More than that and you'll be installing/uninstalling constantly.

Nano X - for THB 5,990 (lot more space and apps concurrently, eg. BTC, ETH, Stellar, Ripple, ADA and so on).  Both of them work in the same way.

Groov.store is another one (better pricing on the X).

Hardware wallets are the Gold standard - if you dont want to spend any money, you can download a reputable wallet - eg. Green for Bitcoin.

Hardware or Software Wallet, the key will be securing and storing the 24 word seed that you are randomly assigned.  No photos / no cloud storage etc... just paper / pencil, preferably in 2 separate locations.  Ideally a metal plate backup (fire resistant) will also be a good idea.  Ideally, you should also do a full wipe/restore before you transfer meaningful amounts.

Youtube has a lot of explainer videos - Crypto-guide is a good channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EMzkGSsR5A

    Good luck.

  8. 1) I had a similar sized area and was told to go with 33K BTU (inverter unit).  If non inverter, a smaller one would likely suffice.

    2) Daikin highly regarded, and charges accordingly.  Mitsubishi also seems to get good reviews.

    3) The type of unit you are looking for, is a Split/Multi-split unit.  Single compressor serving upto 5 wall units.  I thought it'd make life easier for the installer, but was told to stay away.... didnt probe too hard as to why.  Could be maintenance cost related.

    4) If you can, get the inverter unit.  You'll pay more, but will save on your electric bills in the long run.  Maybe recover the cost in 4-5 years (havent done the math).

    5) If you get a unit with an IR remote (nearly most models these days), a product like Ambi Mini (100USD) or Cielo Breez eco (60USD) maybe worth it.  Device allows far more automated level of control than the manufacturer allows.  Like you, I dont run the aircon all the time, dont like it direct and so on.  A device like this allows it to turn on 2-3 times/night for an hour here and there.... 7 days a week.

    6) Do some digging into Cassette vs Wall unit.... ie. as to which will be more appropriate for you.  Believe the cassette is less maintenance - but maybe overkill.

The store can recommend installers, but if you have no ideas at all, try JT Air on Facebook.  They speak English.  Get a quote from the store installer first, then ask JT Air to match.  Ask them about type of units etc.  Good luck.

  9. OP - Aside from the firm you mentioned, Blockfi and Gemini (Winklevoss) Earn? maybe worth a look.

I would choose a couple of them....Maybe start small and see how it works for you.  Most have inadequate insurance/depositor protection.  Also, bear in mind while using 2-3 of them may sound like diversification - their business interests could converge more than we realize.

All stable coins are not created equally - USDT pays a higher interest than say USDC/GUSD, but I think there is an obvious reason behind it.

Lastly, if you are technically savvy, look at Lend.hodlhodl (.com)    Truly P2P lending, but with BTC as the collateral.  Believe the guys behind Blockstream have set this up.  The UI is not very beginner friendly, but they may have demo videos on Youtube.  I have no experience with it - except that the non custodial element could be a game changer.

Also, whoever you decide to go with, sign up for the respective sub-forum on Reddit.  Go through the list of issues & see if you have a stomach for it (ie. poor support response time, not able to log in, withdrawal processing delays etc, data breaches).  Good luck.

Been her about 6 years and 5 years ago bought a nice leather sofa from Index, about 45k baht. Was the only comfortable one we could find. They seem to like sleeping and sitting on cement here. Anyway, it has deteriorated pretty badly in 5 years with only fairly light use. the leather seems to be that thin glued onto a backing. So I have decided I wont be outlaying that kind of money again hoping for quality.

The vinyl sofas seems to be the go here but the vinyl while it does have nearly the feel of leather doesn't seem very strong. Has anyone had any experience with them?

I also could recover ours in vinyl at a reasonable price. It is still very strong and comfortable and we like the design. Recovering in leather seems to be out of the question.

We've had a look at a few upholsterers where we live and they do an ok job, looks strong enough but the workmanship isn't great. They just seem to cover like a big pillow rather that doing proper stitching. Any ideas? If the vinyl is strong enough to get another 5 years I may consider it

If you like the existing couch, and want a quote, try Peter and Sons.  They should be able to refoam/reinforce, stitch, maintain the design etc.  Their showroom is along Sukhumvit Road, close to On Nut station.

We replaced the original Fabric with leather (he advised us not to), started peeling off after a few years (in part due to zero maintenance) .... got it redone in vinyl (disaster) and then got it redone in a Velvet type fabric.  Unless you run your aircon throughout, the vinyl we selected was way too hot.

If velvet, have a look at Acacia Fabrics (Malaysia) has a commercial range, and so does Pasaya (TH).

You'll find Peter and Son's on Google.  Kind of slow to respond via mail, so you may need to go in (measurements etc) to get an accurate quote.  They'll pickup the sofa and return it.

A friend got 2-3 cloth sofa's and individual chairs made from scratch .... someone on a freelance basis.  About the same as what it cost me to re-upholster (~15K material +5K work).

  11. Here's one more local exchange to consider

Satang.com (been around since 2018 or so)

I have never used them - but see this review site - https://www.cryptowisser.com/exchange/satang-pro/

Also - Band Protocol used them to launch their first trading pair:  https://medium.com/bandprotocol/the-leading-thai-digital-asset-exchange-satang-list-thb-fiat-pair-for-band-protocol-band-6aae69e39d78

  12. Total speculation on my part to say you/your son has nothing to worry about (no chance of failing out).

A few years ago (2010), they conducted nationwide tests on Teacher competency (ie. testing them in their respective subjects).  The failure rate for math was in the double digits.  That sounds ok ie. if it is say 10-20%, but in fact it was a whopping 84%.  Not sure if I can link to BKK Post here, but "Thailand teachers failing their own subject" should bring it up as the first result in Google.

Found this link while I was drafting this. - https://www.ajarn.com/blogs/mark-brown/problems-with-the-thai-public-education-system - (you may want to email the person who wrote that article.

Also, a link to an academic paper - seems like Thailand has a "No fail policy" for sometime now.  At most sounds like your son may need to take a few days of remedial classes, if that.  https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/81715653.pdf

  13. @Peterphuket Blockchain.com - sorry I dont know much about them - beyond the the occasional user saying they have withdrawal issues.  If it is a decent amount, work on getting your ETH into your custody.

Mixed reviews on trustpilot, but Customer support seems to be responsive there.  https://www.trustpilot.com/review/blockchain.com

Another option, download Blockchain.com's own non-custodial mobile wallet (save the 24 words) & see if it can be withdrawn to that address.  If that withdrawal address is accepted, can't think of why Ledger's wont be.  Hope it works out.

  14. @dddave Is this what you are looking for on Bitcoin Beginners?  This is the mods pinned faq.  https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinBeginners/comments/g42ijd/faq_for_beginners/

There'll always be scammers - questions about seed words etc... you'll get a DM within seconds.

If you know your way around Bitcoin, then ignore - your better off with twitter / youtube / & going direct to the source Lopp.net etc.

Anyway lots of sub-forums too - Ledger / Lightning has its own and so on.

To be honestly, I like it so too, to buy crypto currency, once I was in HK I bought a small amount Ethereum through an ATM overthere.

Back in Thailand I bought an Ledger Nano S to put the currency on that device, maybe I'm to old but until today it is not possible to transfer this to the hard wallet.

    @Peterphuket.

    Late reply, just saw this.

    1) If you have used your Ledger for other coins, pls make sure you have the seed (24 words) available before doing anything.  If you have never used it before (ie. no assets deposited to addresses generated by that wallet), you can always regenerate a new 24 word.  Need to secure the 24 word seed - ie. keep it in a fire/water resistant location and away from any digital media (no printing, cloud storage, not even a digital photograph).  If at all you need to enter it someplace, it should be only on the device.  Since you are starting from scratch, you may want to consider using a passphrase too.

    2) If your Ledger Nano S has not been used for a while or at all, you may need to run firmware updates.  Again, If there are assets make sure you know where the seed (24 words) are, before you start.  If the existing firmware is below 1.3, it may not be updatable and you may need to get a replacement (not sure, but Ledger may exchange free).  FYI, current firmware is v1.6.  The update process can be a be a bit frustrating since it gets stuck for some people etc... but hopefully you dont have an issue.

Ledger Live has replaced all browser apps with a single software called Ledger Live.  Pls ignore any Chrome/Firefox apps for Ledger - lots of malware floating around.

    3) You should be able to transfer your ETH from whichever wallet it is in (provided you have the keys etc) to the ETH address generated by your Ledger.  Pls post back if you have any issues.  Plenty of youtube, how to videos too....  Best

  16. 1) Reddit has good info - the Bitcoin Sub and r/bitcoinbeginners sub.  Some of the discussions on wallets, seed security etc are universal.  I'd recommend a hardware wallet (Ledger or Trezor), but if you dont want to spend the money, a mobile wallet is good too.  Pick one that is non-custodial (the developer/central entity doesnt have custody of your coins).  If iOS, Blockstream Green maybe worth considering.  Others reviewed at walletscrutiny.com

    2) Thailand has a couple of good exchanges - if buying/selling in THB is important.  If you are from a country where there are good exchanges/regulatory environment  - consider that too.  Kraken is a good exchange that serves a number of countries... and ranks high on volume / liquidity and security.

    3) Whichever exchange you buy from, follow a practice of withdrawing regularly.

    All the best,

  17. Definitely possible in condos.  The building that I am in was considering investing in the equipment to make it fiber ready.

They could sign up with a provider (eg. AIS or True), who would subsidize capital costs and carry it out - but then the building would be locked into using that provider exclusively.

From what I understood, if the building pays for the capital costs, they can then collect a fee (toll) from the provider & more importantly not be locked into any one.
