I am still trying to figure out what is the criteria of getting a tourist visa for those who visit Thailand frequently, or to the long-staying people in a tourist visas.
The speculation were circulating around the "age", "nationality", "well-groomed" and/or "profession", which none of them proved to be the real factor unless it is a combination consisting of all of them together?!
Here is a case:
spending the holidays in Kuala Lumpur, I went to the Thai embassy in the first day they opened after the holidays (4th January) to apply for a tourist visa and noticed the following:
1. People applying for any kind of visa have been reduced significantly from any of my previous visits.
2. There were a notice on the guard's window, where people register their names and collect the application forms, stating that repeatedly departing and re-entering Thailand is considered as a concealment of the real purpose of stay and such person WILL not be issued a tourist visa (not:"MAY not be issued").
I decided to proceed anyhow regardless whether they will accept my application or not? As 46 of my 48 pages passport were completely filled with regional countries' visas including seven (7) of Thai tourist visas, two extensions and few border runs.
The person in charge checked my passport page by page, smiled, wrote down my name on a receipt and told me to collect my passport next day, without a single question asked.
Well, What is the criteria?? is it the combination above in which I meet all of them? or something else still missing?

You can not activate a tourist visa inside Thailand. You could request not to use the tourist visa on arrival but that will be up to the officer to decide. If he allowed a 30 day visa exempt you then could leave country/return using the tourist visa for 60 day stay and then extend for 30 days.
Absolutely Right, however, just make sure to use the second entry before the expiry date (Use By......)

There are other threads about the new immigration experience in this page, check out for more details.

Though, I remember now that the underground Train end up in Bang Sue where the bus number 52 start. However the BTS still a better choice as you have many other alternatives.

By the way it is not the Thai Consulate, it is the immigration office.

If you are talking about saving money, then take the BTS to Mor Chit and then just take bus number 52 direct to Chaeng Wattana soi 7, where you take the free shuttle bus. otherwise from Mor Chit take the frequent bus #29 (Red, Blue, Yellow) to the Grand Miracle hotel and then 52, or 356 to Chaeng Wattana soi 7 (Just 3-4 bus stops); usually those buses going to the old airport drives like crazy on that route and I often see them passing me whenever I am in my car or a taxi, so do not worry about the time saving.
Good luck

1. No
2. Your passport + application form + one photo
3. No
4. If you do not know anybody in Thailand and/or KL, just leave it empty.

I did it last week, and if you go early morning to the immigration office, you do not need to download the form as it will take less than 5 minutes to collect it and write down the information, the lady in the cubicle room has the electronic numbering machine over her desk, so you do not need to wait for her to call you, just look at the number if you are in a position to see it; meanwhile the electronic machine in the collection cubicle is hanged on the window.
I was number 4 when I arrived Tuesday at 9.30; number one was already left and number 3 was having some kind of problem (African guy with not matching photo in his passport), so it took me about 45 minutes to be in and out of the immigration office with my extended visa.
All what you need to take with you is a photocopy of the first page of your passport and both your visa and the arrival card, sign them all and hand them over along with the extension form and your passport. The officer will put a stamp on the application for your telephone number and ask you to write it down.
There are several ways to arrive to the immigration office depending on your budget:
If you can afford to take a taxi, this will be the best choice, otherwise, you can take a normal bus, drop at the mouth of soi 7 and take the free shuttle bus to the main building.
If you are in no position to take the direct bus as number 52 from Bang Sue or Morchit Bts station then you can take any bus that goes to the old airport such as buses number: 29, 510, 54 etc. and drop at the Grand Miracle Hotel then take bus number 52 or 356 to Chaeng Wattana soi 7.
Going back you can use the same method.

Yes, but you will get only 10 days extension for B.1900 .

Still 5 months to go before we know what happens.
They only started to give red stamps ONE month ago - with the VISA.
So anyone who got one (presuming they were intelligent enough to write 'double entry' on it) has 5 more months before they have go throught the process.
Anything can happen in 5 months.
Plus those with 'the stamp' might well get another visa, it only says 'mightn't', let's just see who tries it.
If you haven't got a red stamp, and need a visa now, go to laos, get your 6 months, and possibly get a stamp saying that you 'mightn't' get another TV from that embassy next time of asking.
We may never know as I don't believe too many people would make that trip just to see what will happen.
I wouldn't go back to Vientiane with a red warning stamp. Would you?
The red stamp reads "don't come back again" to me.
Of course, it's not going to cost anything but travel and board - the visas are free...........
The way they've only been giving out stamps to the odd few people (when they've been told to refuse back to back visas outright) reads that they have every intention of keeping it a visa factory to me. How much money do you think the Laos government makes in $35 dollar Laos visas EVERYDAY because of the Thai visa factory? How many go there a day on visa runs? 200? That's $7000 A DAY ($35,000 for a five day week) to the Laos government, you think the Thais in charge don't receive a cut of that to keep the floodgates open?
Open your eyes my friend.
I won't argue with that, though the numbers you stated is much lower than the actual ones. However what I think, it is a government to government policy rather than a cut to the one on charge.
Have you noticed that Laos in fact is the only boardering country which enjoy some kind of honeymoon with Thailand without any real problem (especially the geographic or territory one).
Have you noticed that where ever Laos has no diplomatic relation or office (embassy/consulate), Thailand act as their representatives.
Then it is no wonder that Thailand is trying to help them indirectly by doing just like that (make Laos a visa destination).
Now if this is the case, then why the embassy is giving the red stamp?
Well the answer is: as the cracking down on back to back visa is applying to every Thai embassy or consulate, it must not exempt Thai embassy in Laos, but in a way that is not to be in a big scale, which will hurt Laos significantly.
So they randomly give some the red stamp to show that the law is served, however who is the unlucky ones who get it, and who is the lucky ones who did not get it, or in another word, how this system works is the real question?

A discussion popped up at a bar I was in last night concerning farangs being deported and blacklisted.
The question someone asked was what exactly happens to any house, condo or business property etc they may have in Thailand? Cars and motor cycles etc too come to that I suppose. I think the best guess was that they would somehow have to give someone here power of attorney or whatever to sell for them.
I said I would post the question here to finally settle the argument! harry
You had the answer, and it is absolutely right.

The sheer number of people getting visas at Vientienne is astounding. Monday and Tuesday there were at least 400 per day. The authorities must be thinking of ways to stop this behavior!
My friend just called so say that he is back in Thailand with a double entry tourist visa and no he did not get a red stamp. He has back to back tourist visas for 3 years from various embassies.
Really Thailand has got to change its stance on transients using visas. Making it easier!
BB
I still wonder whether the age is a factor or a main reason for the red stamp?

You can keep your old passport with you during the process of the new passport if you are planing to travel, and the new passport will take 15 working days (three weeks), but it might be ready couple of days before, you just have to check with the embassy few days earlier.
Good luck

Regarding this, if you get a new passport are you on the clear from the previous visas? i.e if hullupullo got a new passport now could he go to vientiane and be a visa virgin there?
offtopic: finnish passports are valid for 5 years max anyway so that might help him if he can't get another visa around here. he could also go to finland and get a triple from the embassy there. you just need a plane ticket for each entry and show a whopping 400 euro (~20k baht) in his bank account (their new policy as of this month).
mod: feel free to open a new topic for my first question if you think it doesn't belong to this topic. i would like an answer somewhere though since as a finn my visa factories are helsinki and vientiane too as are OP's
Yes, with new passport he will be clear; Thai embassies do not check records in their computers! that if they have such.

I think he was just unlucky, there are at least 500 people a day for make a visa applicaton in Vientiane .
I'm awating for other reports.
As none have declared the same situation yet, I wonder whether they suspect that he is working illegally in Thailand especially if he is under 50 years of age. Let's wait and see other reports.

Of course you can, the border open everyday, this is not a supermarket!

Only single entry visa, and it is from my own personal experience, however unless you have some kind of business to do or you want to explore that part of the world, it is not advisable to seek a tourist visa from there. There are many other much better places to do that.

The last time I asked about one year ago, it was B.300. There are many vans and will leave when they are filled with passengers.
You can use the Casino buses just in the parking lot next to the Van parking for B.200 or you can take a tuk tuk from the boarder market to the bus station and take the normal buses, which leaves every half an hour for about B.200.

There is no Thai Embassy or consulate in Taiwan, however the the Thai commercial office is able to issue you a tourist visa if you have the onward airline ticket.
Good luck

I think you are OK, up to this point, but I strongly recommend that you follow "ubonjoe" advise stated here earlier, this is the most logical answer.
Good luck

I have been in KL Thai embassy many times and I never saw any agent applying for a visa. I guess they only accept applications from individuals.

I Do not have the answer for your first two questions; however from the border you can take either a bus or share a taxi with someone else to Kota Bharu.
For the visa, it seems as they go by an individual cases. If this is the first time you go there or you are not going there frequently, and your passport not filled with Thai visas, then you might get double entries, tourist visa easily, otherwise, they will just give you a single entry tourist visa.
Good luck

"B" visa is more than enough to do all your business in Thailand and all other countries in the world, unless you have a permanent office or a desk in an office or a company, or if you are earning money from a local establishment in Thailand. No work permit required for buying goods and services for export from Thailand. You can visit companies, factories, exhibitions and negoticate terms of the agreements, inspect goods, and arrange for the shipments without any problem.
Millions of people come to Thailand every year to buy goods and services, so can you imagine if each one need a work permit, how many staff need to be hired for each department involved.

For a single Entry, (60) days extendable for another (30) days, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) is your best place in the region; but for a double entries Vientiane (Laos) is the only place at the moment.
