  1. Can't for the life of me figure why, in a situation like that, you didn't fly direct with ThaiAir from Brisbane. You must have did some research! Were the savings, traveling AA, worth the hassle?

yer should ,and would if I new I was ending up in Brisbane anyway, but the only reason was we were living very close to coolangatta airport and I figured it would be easier to pay for all that baggage before hand . But in doing that it really doesn't work out any cheaper by the time you pay for bags ,seats food etc, like one other guy posted I would have been better with emirates out of Sydney ,we have been on that flight before . But yer like I said it was really only that we were so close to Cooly that we took that flight . Lesson learned .
  2. Commiserations. We all hate it when long, gruelling trips become a bit of a nightmare. However, I and my family have flown with AirAsia at least 30 times, with nothing but the best experiences. On two occasions or so, there have been delays of around 2 hours. My approach is to assume that when you are flying on a low cost carrier that there is bound to be a problem. Hence - I always allow longer than usual for flight connections, just 'wearing' the extra couple of hours in-transit, and carrying a laptop with an earphone 'splitter' so that my partner and I can entertain ourselves watching movies while waiting for connections. If your flight gets diverted because of weather - well, probably ANY flight would have been diverted anyway. World Nomads travel insurance (for example) is not only (ridiculously) cheap - it's available within seconds through internet purchase prior to commencement of your journey (Tip: if purchasing, state your address as your REPATRIATION country address (e.g. if Australian - state 'Australia', rather than your Thai address (assuming that if you were badly injured you would want to be repatriated to your country of origin). Travelling anywhere at all with heaps of baggage/children without basic travel insurance is not really advisable. If it's just you in your 2 shoes - no problem - but if you have a partner/child/120 kgs of baggage??? I am always surprised to see stories from travellers who say they have had a nightmare experience with Air Asia. I presume that you are in a very small (unfortunate) minority. How else does Air Asia win the 'Low Cost Carrier' best airline award year after year (after year)? And, as I mentioned, I have flown with them many many times and really never had a bad experience to report, at all ......

yer there were a lot of folks that were like you and had flown many times in the past with no probs , maybe there getting to big ,slack or just the Xmas rush . But yes they called me yesterday and say they will get back to me again , I don't want a free trip or anything ,like I said just wanted to put it out there in case anyone else was thinking of doing this crazyness. Don't think I will look at this anymore ,as always to many dickheads that can't read and just want to piss on everyone from there high horse . Not talking about you mate . Happy new year .
  3. You messed up the quote a bit but i get your message, anyway i can understand why you traveled heavy, you just had some bad luck and sometimes writing it down helps.

I hate the lack of information when things go wrong and such, and arranging accommodation That is their job and i would get pissed off for that and to add that you had to carry the bags (not their mistake but it certainly feels that way) Yes i do see how it would make you real angry.

yer sorry bout that ,looks like I edited your post, IPad .

Like I said just thought putting it out there may help someone to not make the same mistakes I made .

  4. Dec 7th 2012 my wife my self and our four year old son with 90kg of check in baggage were to fly out of coolangatta at 9.05 am

all the time with a four year old kid and over 120 kg of bags ,it was the worst experience of my life .

Somehow the OP's luggage managed to put on weight on the trip as well !

He was allowed 30kg carryon initially but when transferred and checked in again was refused this carryon allowance, so baggage was the same.

thats dead right , checked in 90 we paid for had 30 carry on .
  5. why would you fly with that much luggage as well as your young child ?

and why do you expect them to help carry your luggage ?

and your a mind reader to as you know what "Everyone" was feeling and thinking

    Stay home

well we live in Thailand and were moving back ,so reducing everything down to that for 3 people isn't bad after living away for few years ,books ,paperwork ,computers etc etc. , next time we will just leave the kid maybe huh ?

And didn't expect them to carry our luggage just at least tell us were to go at 4 am and have busses pull up within 30 metres of were trolleys can be pushed . That's all .

And unlike YOU I am not a mind reader ,just listening to the same people for 48 + hr kinda gives you an idea of what's going on .

Crawl back under that computer table Jeff ,

  6. If the flight was booked in Australia, it might be that you are entitled to compansation because of the delay. Just as you would be in the European Unity.

For me I booked here in Thailand and AirAsia gave us a free roundtrip ticket but we had to pay for tax and fuel.

well have to say they may do something for us ,they finally sent an email and want to get in contact now ,so fingers crossed .

I would have to say if you were travelling alone and only had carry on it would not be so bad ,but with a family and heaps of bags uh uh.and like I said the Thai service was great .

  7. Had a similar experience with a while back in KL. Our flight back to Bangkok was delayed twice without any notification, only found out about it when checking in and again while boarding.

Our flight was originally supposed to depart at 1 pm and we finally ended up departing at 8 pm. Staff in Malaysia where worthless and didn't really care, and would not give updates, when passengers started asking questions they just disappeared.

On top of that we were stuck in the Low Cost Terminal which has absolutely nothing to do to pass the time.

yer some of the people that could not get a room told us the next day the airport shut and had to sleep in Maccas ,and yes the staff were bad there but like i said the Thai staff were like a different airline ,great.

also did not mention after they changed us from COL to brisbane by bus they would not let us check in any more gear as they said they did not have the facilitys there and then going through customs again they said that my 3 carry on was to heavy and i could not take it on the plane .I said we had everything we own in these bags and had to take stuff out and carry in pockets etc .

all I am trying to say is yes you get what you pay for ,I paid xtra for 90kg check in and all the rest add ons and it cost near 500 bucks one way each ,and the only reason used them we were living on the Gold coast and didnt want to drive to Brisbane .

so just saying its cheaper and more conv to fly with full real airline and go direct .

  8. Thought I would put this up here as been a few weeks and although they said they would respond in five days ,I have received nothing back from them . Just to let everyone know cheap flights don't end up cheap.

Dec 7th 2012 my wife my self and our four year old son with 90kg of check in baggage were to fly out of coolangatta at 9.05 am ,after a storm our plane was sent to Brisbane ,after a 4 hr delay we were told we would have to clear customs again and board a bus to Brisbane ,I had to collect my baggage and carry that to the bus .once we got to brisbane bags were checked in again .

by the time we boarded our flight we were about 8 hours late ,so we and many others were going to miss our connecting flight to Bangkok .

When we arrived at KL it was crazy and nobody knew what was going on ,we were eventually given new itinerary wich had us flying out the next morning at 6 am to not to BKK but to Phuket then wait 4 hours for conecting flight to Bangkok .

they said they would provide a hotel for us for the night ,but all staff disapeared and we could not find any one after an hour we found some other people from the plane and they said we had to collect our bags so I had to get back into the arrivals and find all our bags which nobody told us to collect .we then found on staff member that led us a long way to some busses ,had to carry the bags a long way by my self as the trolleys could not be used .

I put our 8 bags on as 3 staff memebers stood around smoking and never helped .30 minutes later we arrived at dingy hotel ,we there not enough rooms for the people on the bus ,some went back to the airport and slept in Mcdonalds as airport was shut .

we were lucky enough to get a few hours sleep at the hotel before heading back to the airport were we changed to 12.40 flight to Phuket and that was delayed and we were going to miss the next conecting flight to Bangkok again ,all the time staff gave us little info.

Everyone by this time was very stressed and tired .

we finally arrived in Phuket with half an hour before the next flight and this is were things changed ,the staff in Thailand could not have been better met us all at the baggage carousel and helped with the bags got our boarding passes for us and helped everyone to the gate .

the difference between the staff in the two countrys could not have been more different ,Malaysia staff did not comunicate with us and ran the other way ,the Thai staff were excellent .so in the end our trip that was going to be an 8 hour flight and then on to Bangkok with a short stop over took two whole days and one night and five airports all the time with a four year old kid and over 120 kg of bags ,it was the worst experience of my life .

  9. Hi all

I have decided to buy a 2nd hand car now but I am out of country ,my friends and family have checked the car and I have told the guy I want the car and have sent a deposit .

How should I pay the rest ? and what other things should I make sure of before parting with the money like how do you make sure there is no money owing on the car .

    thanks

  10. Hi all ,

I am wanting to buy a new pickup 4 door and have been on some other threads here and I am leaning toward the bt-50 ,because I like the look of it and the delivery should be faster ,I also like the isuzu 3.0lt .safety is a big issue for me and after checking out a lot of the different models and brands online its seems the nissan has all the stuff ie. dual air bags and ABS for about 100k cheaper than the others ,why is that ? I havent read much on here about the nissan ,what are the motors in them like ? are they reliable and good to drive etc? Also have been doing muy research on this website http://www.siamnewcar.com/home_en.php ,anybody know how accurate the prices are ? Its good for checking specs and has compare button where you can check out 4 cars at once .

I dont know much about cars and and want some advice from you guys about the motor size also 2.2 vs2.5 and 3.0 lt etc.

    thanks .

  11. I ordered mine the very end of Feb. They are only making 400 BT-50 Pro 3.2 4x4 for Thailand a year. I have had my 3.2 4x4 for two weeks, within the first week I have noticed heavy rust on front end suspension nuts. I will take pictures tomorrow.

    Any photos mate?

My truck is now over 2 months old with 5km and 700km from the sea, here are some examples of the rust on the nuts. Anyone else?

Yep I've got the same rust. Going to bring it into the dealer next week for collision repair and also ask them what they're going to do about the rust.

Hi Mate ,thanks for the answer on the other thread.

how is the rusty bolt problem going ?

  12. Try Wearnes Mazda. They have 2 dealerships close together on Phahonyothin near Central Ladprao and Chatuchak. My salesguy is name Awwd (ออด). 089-533-7944. However I'm not sure how well he speaks English.

thanks mate ,i will give them a call when I get over there ,so you have the BT-50 ? what model and how do you like it ?

I will read the bt 50 thread but what do you think about the 2.2 motor if yours has it ?

  13. We had a similar topic a while back with plenty of info. I thought ABS would be fitted in all new rides but seems not. UK it is law.

If your not sure the dealer is being truthful, look under the hood and you will see a box like thing with brake lines going in and out of it, thats the ABS gadget. If the brake lines leave the master cylinder and disappear towards the wheels, then it doesn't have ABS.

yer thanks guys ,thats what I was thinking ,here is the list from the Thai redbook for mazda bt 50 .as you can see some have ABS after the name and some dont .

  14. Hi all ,

I want to buy a new pickup when we get back to Thai in Dec ,looking at the Thai red book at prices and some brands like isuzu say ABS after some models but other brands dont say ,so do some have ABS standard or is it an extra on all brands ?

Also what pickup would you buy at the lowest end ,I am thinking the Isuzu ,rwd with abs manual 4 door .in the redbook says about 700k.

    thanks

  15. Hi again all ,I was just wondering what the wait time is when getting a new car and what car is the shortest waiting list ?I want any 4 door pickup ,saying that i really want dmax or vigo but time of delivery will determin choice ,i would buy a mazda or any other if the delivery is faster or any colour ,not fussy just dont wont to wait for ever .

my bro inlaw in Isaan was told 3 months for the dmax top model ,are toyota or mitsu or any others faster ,3months seems a hell of a long time to wait and a lot of wasted money on hire cars .

ps my last thread was locked with a little padlock next to the title ,why is that ? just wanted to thank those that responded .

    thanks .

  16. thanks again ,yes I have already been out once and leave again soon as my second 90 days are up. just was not sure wether it expired on the date of issue or the date of first entry . So I understand now its from the date of issue and as long as I leave and return before that date i get 15 months .thanks again .
