Do you even understand what that means?  It's more to do with Thailand having a trade surplus with the US.  America does not want its trade partners to artificially weaken their currency to gain a trade advantage.  Are you suggesting Thailand is deliberately weakening the THB?  I wish they would...:-)

Thank you. Yea, I won't be parting with money anytime soon. Was just asking as I am interested to know what Farangs think about this in general. Although judging by some of the replies I should have checked for similar threads before creating this one.

    *Hangs head in shame ????

and then if you marry her you are expected to pay SINSOD  similar to a dowry and that can be extortionate!

  3. But all of the other countries listed require visas, while a majority of nationalities don't need any visa to enter Thailand?

So why bother joining? Seems it would just cause more administrative costs with no benefit as most tourist just get a 30 day stamp upon arrival (no visa required)

Really do not understand the negative comments at all???

At present someone from Uk arriving by Air will be given a 30 day on arrival! if he or she then goes to Laos (say after 2 days) and returns to Thailand he or she would be given Only 15 days on arrival .. so losing 13 days !!!!!. Note if some one enters thailand by foot only 15 days are given!!!!

If Thailand joined the scheme then presumably they would not lose the 13 days..

  4. This is what you get when a country's bus drivers come from the most reckless segment of drivers, unlike in developed countries where they usually come from the most careful segment of drivers, and are carefully chosen for the job by their employers.

Indeed a terrible waste of life, and teachers into the bargain.

However I must comment on the above and other posts.

I dont know how many of these posters actually travel on buses in Thailand but I do, as I have no use for a car therefore dont drive.

I have used buses over most of the country except the far north for the last 6 years and have never been in a bus that has even had a scratch.

I now travel regularly into and out of BKK, about a 3 hr drive and can tell you that the drivers are professional and careful.

They have regular rest stops between runs and on longer trips the buses carry more than one driver.

Very few are young men which I suspect equates with experienced.

I see many accidents on the roads, like 5 when travelling home from BKK last Thursday but very rarely one involving a bus.

I have no problems with travelling on a bus, cant say the same for mini vans though, tried them years ago and not for me.

Most accidents are in Minibuses not Coaches which maybe you are referring to.

There are many many accidents involving minibuses . and I have had a few close misses!!

  5. QUOTE

    “”””Culture Ministry Inspector-General Preecha

Kanthiya said many karaoke bars used legal loopholes and redundancy between the

Culture Ministry's Film and Video Act 2008 and the Interior Ministry's Places

of Service Act 1966 regarding karaoke bar licences.

He explained that if application was made to the Culture Ministry, the bar

must not have prostitutes and alcoholic drinks - while those offering girls and

drinks must apply to the much-stricter Interior Ministry.””””

    END_QUOTE

    Does the above imply

that bars can have girls/ ladies if they apply to the

    Quote much-stricter Interior Ministry” ?????

And if so can these Girls/Ladies offer their services ??

  6. The first question was :-

"Is it possible to get Thai girls interested in things with more depth?

Are there any who have these interests on their own? Where do you meet them? "

I think most have decided that you want to change your gf's mindset!!

But I thought you just meant it on more general terms!!,

I have found that most Thai ladies I have met have really been primarily intersested in

tHAI tv WITH ALL THE ASSOCIATED NOISES that go with it Bang Boom whistle, which to me would be OK for 5-6 year olds in the west!!

When it comes to something with more depth they are just totally bored!

and talk about poetry it flies straight over their heads.

However this really is only related to their education, so their minds aree just a bit narrow. My current gf does try to understand , she has a University degree, but only has a limited comprehension of it all.

    Lets not get into Shakespeare!!!!

  7. Hi

Having contracted a builder to build house at a fixed price, he overran budget so scrimped on the drive and it looks crap! spoils the house.

So rather than dig up god knows how many ton of concrete and metal does anyone know if there are any companies in LOS specialising in putting down concrete and then imprinting a pattern say cobblestone into the drying cement. I can then put this over the top of offending drive.

Now this is fairly common in the UK and I think I have seen an add for it in one of the glossy Thai house mags but that could be wishful thinking.

    Any info would be appreciated

    Thanks

    TBWG :o

Try a google on "stamped concrete thailand"

It is quite common and around 500 - 600 Baht per m2

I know one company but cannot find their contact details at the moment

Not Sure whether to Open new Thread as this is a few years OLD.

However I want to have a pressed (Stamped) concrete drive way and pathway .

I contacted a company here in Chiang Mai, The estimated price was OK at 55,000 baht so i chose the patterns etc

the sales man returned the next day with the official quote ,a nd good nes it was cheaper at 53,000 baht,

However when I went was discussing with him how deep the layer wuld be it transpired that the company would come along and layit all on the ggrass no clearing out to make a firm base!! Also they intended to lay the new drive straight on top of the old concrete.

and where the pathway begins there would be a step down as the path way would be 10 cms deep not 15cms deep.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I gues it is the typical Thai way! Just lay anyting new on top of the old!

no consideration for strength, just go for """"Veneer""""

the company name is STONE BUILD!!

  9. Remember when you were at school and they'd be one kid who'd always be taking. The teacher would say something like "Children, if the whole class behaves then you can all go to break five minutes early. If anyone speaks then it's detention for all of you." Thus putting the onus on other members of the class to tell the annoying child to shut it and get in line.

The Dems are showing it is possible to run a country the same way as you treat a class of 8 year olds. Next step will be a ban on staying up after 8pm and not allowing anyone out to play with their friends if they are caught protesting.

Sometimes it is as if the country was being run by a bunch of 8 year olds!

  10. I have 3 bank accounts with Siam Commercial Bank. I opened them soimply by showing them my passport.

I got an account with passbook ad Debit card same day.

Recently I went to open another account with SCB in Petchaburi, I was told by a rather gruff woman that I had to have a work permit.

So today I went to another SCB bank and asked them and they said that it is a new regulation, that Farangs cannot open up an

account without a work permit unless thay own a house !!! Unbelievable

Renting a house is not good enough! (Nor isstaying in a hotel)

Has anyone else come across this, and is it really true?

    and pardoned!

Not sure what the other police officers would do to him though.
