  1. There are so many problems with this scenario, some of which have been mentioned already. It just doesn't sound like a good idea no matter how you look at it. What I would suggest is that if you think your wife has already been enticed to make promises that you don't want to keep, or pay for, then just allow her to blame lack of interest on you.

My wife and I use this tactic whenever needed. Although I consider my wife to be an astute business woman she will occasionally be drawn in by friends or relatives and find it awkward to just say no. In this type of situation she will just say that she wants to help but her husband doesn't understand and won't allow her to get involved. Anyway, that's my suggestion.

  2. Anyone renting this apartment can also register a business at this address. The building is semi-commercial, meaning that the first three floors house commercial businesses.

The landlord is willing to provide the necessary building documents to register a business at this address even if you are renting an apartment. This is where and how we registered our condom company ten years ago. We used the second bedroom as our office and the living room as the warehouse for our first shipment. After a couple of years we were able to rent office and warehouse space on the second floor of the same buidling, which is also now available.

We are now in the process of moving and helping the landlord to find a new tenant as per the terms of our agreement. The apt will be available on July 1st.

Please have a look at the Thai Visa Classified ad:

  3. On another note I see where they issued warrants for Thaksin's arrest on terrorism charges and three hours later took them back. That didn't take long. On the other hand they are being fair they are treating him the same as they did the yellow shirt leaders.

As another poster pointed out on a different thread - maybe it's because many countries would be reluctant to cooperate with extradition proceedings involving a fugitive wanted on capital offence charges. He may have a point.

  4. I've been to pick up friends several times just recently. They have changed the system slightly. You cant actually wait close to the immigration / arrival area anymore (you had to know which gate they were coming from). Now no matter which arrival hall you come out of, you are all ushered down a pathway towards exit door #3 - called "meeting point". At this point there are a couple of TV screens showing the different arrival halls and you can watch these to see your friends arrive, then a few mins later they will walk down this pathway. It can get a little crowded depending on time of day.

Just passed the main throng of people where the first TV screens are is a more open area - right in front of the elevator - that is right underneath the "meeting point" sign and there is another set of TV screens.

Its not that bad. But yes, you do have to walk another 5 mins down the length of the airport - or push your trolley. But you can easily find your friends.

i had first timers arrive (first time flying - not just first time to BKK) and they managed to find their way down to me.

    Thanks for the info.

  5. Thanks for your point of view. We all know that luggage must be carted out of Immigration. However, I doubt if many travelers coming off a 24 hour flight would be pleased to push their luggage all over the airport looking for family members they were expecting to meet upon exiting Immigration.

even after a 2hr flight, who wants to push their luggage around the airport? but that's the way it is, dont bring any if you feel too lazy to push it around. and you meet people after the customs not the immigration.

the meeting point at Suvarnabhumi is still there, a few meters after exit at the customs.

Maybe you should read the thread again as you missed the point completely.

I posted the original question looking for information - not criticism or nit picking corrections. Thanks anyway.

  6. Regardless of second or third floor, you still have to carry your luggage from Immigration no matter what

It is not that big a deal to get in the elevator or the escalator to the third floor

If you get your luggage out of the luggage belt and on a trolley or by pulling, certainly you can get up one floor with no problems

The escalators are made for trolleys anyway and there is an elevator right there to the right of the second floor immigration exit

This it the way it was the last time I was there recently

If I go over before the fifth I will let you know

When you say, "This is the way it was the last time I was there recently", did you mean that meeting arriving friends is no longer allowed on the 2nd floor? Thanks.

  7. My wife (Thai) tells me that when she recently arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport her family was prevented from meeting her at the International Arrivals entry on the second floor and she was told that she would have to schlep her luggage to the third floor to meet her family or that an airport employee could help her. However, she is too cheap to tip and complained bitterly about new "security measures".

Anyway, I will be arriving on Feb 5 in the morning and my first timer cousin will be arriving on the same day on an evening flight. Can I still count on being able to meet him as he exits customs into the 2nd floor Main Hall? Is the second floor "meeting point" still in existence or will I have to instruct him to meet me on the third floor somewhere?

    Thanks and any information appreciated.

  8. It seems to me that many Thais, but particularly government officials, do not learn from their past mistakes, or the mistakes of others. Nor are they likely to do so as that could cause a loss of face. Seems to me the drop off in tourist numbers began in earnest about 2 or 3 years ago when the first campaign to attract 'quality tourists' by the TAT was implemented. Couple that with some political unrest, health scares, safety and violence against farang issues, and you've got yourself exactly the perfect storm--to DIScourage tourism. Also, while Amazing Thailand was once a very good value for a vacation destination, those days are long gone. Too many cheats, lies, and scams. PLUS the unexplainable growth in the strength of the Baht.

Let's not forget the "Back to Family Values" campaign that resulted in the decline of the entertainment industry which is one of the main reasons that foreigners are attracted to Thailand!!! Oh well, I give up trying to figure out what motivates Thai tourism campaigns.

  9. I am in the process of updating my website to accept on line payments for condoms products which are low value items that I intended to send domestically and internationally via Thai postal service with tracking number. I did intend to use PayPal since I already have a verified merchant account and I wanted to give customers an alternative to credit card payment, 2checkout was recommended. After reading the previous post I'm having second thoughts about using PP. Wondering if using a tracking number would dissuade unreceived item dispute scammers.

I originally seached for this thread because I'm having trouble accepting Thai Baht payments on PayPal. I'm using 3 currencies, baht, dollars and euros. Just testing the checkout process and no problem with dollars or euros but when I try to pay through PayPal using baht I get this message:

"This recipient does not accept payments denominated in USD. Please contact the seller and ask him to update his payment receiving preferences to accept this currency."

I've already set my payment receiving preferences like this:

"Block payments sent to me in a currency I do not hold:

    Yes

No, accept them and convert them to U.S. Dollars

    Ask Me"

Even though I checked the "accept them" option I think I'm getting the "ask me" option. Ayone one else have a problem like this or a suggestion as to how to correct it to accept Thai Baht?

I will contact PP, but before I do just thought I'd ask here. Thanks.
