Free tourist visas between June 25, 2009 and March 2010

BANGKOK (thaivisa.com): -- Continuing its efforts to expedite the revival of the Thai travel and tourism industry, the Royal Thai government has agreed to exempt the fee for tourist visa applications, effective 25 June 2009 to March 2010.

All foreigners who apply for Tourist Visa at the Royal Thai Embassies and the Royal Thai Consulates-General worldwide will be exempted from tourist visa fee from 25 June 2009 to March B.E.2553 (2010).

Such arrangement is for Tourist Visa single entry only.

Another option would be Air Asia from BBK TO Udon Thani . Book online , price at the moment 1,440 Baht per person inc. tax.

Then you would not have to get a taxi from BKK to DMK.

Asia Air have announced that they will be offering one middle of the day flight from DM to KK and back as they did last year.

This will start at the end of March 08 and run through until end October. They did this last year also, due to extra planes available, not used on high season routes. Ticket costs are well below Thai, especially if you book early.

Currently only Thai Airways fly to Khon Kaen.

hey there, it does seem to be an annual event. i used to cover potential bird flu outbreaks from bangkok and there would always be scares when flu season started and kids were hospitalized. virtually all the scares were just normal flu cases but i was always surprised to see just how bad the flu can be here. btw, these outbreaks were primarily in the area around Phichit but they also occurred east of that.

so, it does seem to be normal but can still be a very serious, especially for little kids (and elderly folks). you're not being overly concerned. you could consider having her transferred to bangkok but honestly the protocol for flu treatment is pretty simple and probably any decent hospital can deal with it.

i hope she feels better soon!

My girlfriend is pregnant and I wondered if anyone had some advice good or bad about hospitals in the Pattaya area or any advice in general ?

I read with interest about Dr. Supanee clinic on another thread on this topic, anybody have information on this clinic?

Also for some reason my gf thinks that shw will want a Ceasearian (spelling ?) done, what is it with thai girls and the C-section ? can anybody tell me what their experiences are with their gf, wifes wanting a C-section or natural birth ? As far as I'm aware a c-section should only be performed if the mother or baby is at risk.

My wife had c-section took her 2/3 weeks to feel 100% she was in hospital for 1week after birth. She was at risk but lot of rich ladys op for c-section they think it's less painful I would say it's not my ex-wife had natural birth and was out of hospital 2 days later so would'nt let her do unless as you say she or baby at risk! which I hope they are not.

The average Thai girl in Pattaya likes Thai gold far more than that from elsewhere. They seem to know whether or not it is local without any hallmark or other check - as do the gold dealers (at least the reputable ones).

I have given my wife gold from Saudi - good karat, excellent workmanship, very good price. But she cannot get nearly the value as for equivalent weight/karat on Thai gold. So she prefers that I spend the money on local gold - but then it disappears every so often :-)

It all depends on the Karat.

Gold's purity is measured in karats. 24 karat is pure gold, but its purity means it is more expensive and less durable than gold that is alloyed with other metals. Different alloys are used in jewellery for greater strength, durability and colour range.

Thai ladies like the higher karat gold which can be exchanged for cash less a commission at good gold shops.

Make sure that the gold which you buy is hallmarked and bought from a reputable source and carries the appropriate markings of authenticity. If in doubt get it checked out.

Going to Pattaya over the years,I sometimes see tourists,mostly tattooed type guys,heckle or make comments to others.

Being bisexual,i have a couple of times been in the ten pin bowling alley with a Ladyboy type only to have people comment and stare,i know it seems im pparanoid but i heard the comments.

The guy/lady boy wasnt a full on Ladyboy with the make up etc but a feminine type guy and about 3 guys all in their 20 s went with me to ten pin bowling.

The strangest thing is the thai guys didnt notice the farangs staring and laughing at us.

Another time i was walking down beach road,and this older farang lady had her arm around a thai guy about 19yo on the beach and i saw two tattooed farang guys calling her names and lauhjing at her.

And i was walking with a thai guy who is 24yo but looks about 18,and this middle aged farang couple who i think were in their 30 s with their teenage kids,i think they were Aussies on holidays,she approached me and told me i was disgusting as i was at the ATM .And the man says "you people are everywhere",so i apologised and told the guy that the thai guy i am with is 24yo and has his ID,and then the farang walks off.

I once sawthis german guy get called a paedophile by young farangs once but he told them it was his son and i caould see the resembelance ,so i dont know why you dont mind your own business.

Baht has appreciated wrt both pound and dollar since the return to 'democracy'.

In the next month nothing much will change, but when oil falls, or other reasons for dollar to appreciate, then so will pound. Euro appears to be a rule unto itself.

In about a year, when the current government has screwed things up again, the Baht will be back to 70:1 wrt GBP.

Hi, I have a 2 year old son that comes to the kindergarten that i teach at and he studies in the baby class (18 months to 2 1/2 years) 2 days a week. He has been coming with me for about 2 months with no problems BUT in the past 2 weeks the teacher has complained that he very aggressive to the other children.

I have told the teacher she can give my son a smack or another punishment, she replied by saying that she couldn't smack or punish him now at this point i'm lost on what to do!! Should i find another kindergarten for him with a strong teacher or keep listening to her complain to me??

My wife is due to give birth to our second child next week and doesn't have the energy to deal with him or play with him. We don't have any family members near us to help... i have spoken to my own family and they just say its normal at that age to do that.

Any idea's or similar stories??

Electronics/computers are generally no bargain in Thailand so generally not the best place to buy such items unless you don't have another choice. If you are a genuine tourist, you should have been able to get the VAT refund receipts and documentation. If not, then you are not entitled to it if you live in Thailand.
