  1. Bistro Oscar, jomtien complex. Had the set special. Very pleasant caulliflower soup with crispy bacon. John Dory with vegetables perhaps needed a stronger sauce, and a rich chocolate ice cream ... delicious. All washed down with a couple of glasses of the house shiraz which was good. Good service, pleasant surroundings. Total bill tb700. Recommended.

  2. Based on a recommendation on here, i had a couple of old watches repaired at a shop on south pattaya rd, the same side as tut com but a few shops down towards the beach. It was few years ago and both watches have worked perfectly since.

  3. Try SriRacha, the name of the shop is Racha Jakkayan (situated at the back of Robinson's SriRacha). I think the name of the owner is Khun Tee... Price is reasonable and he's quite accomodating. Bring a Thai friend to better understand as he may have trouble speaking english but good enough to explain few things. Highly recommended.

Is that now the Tescos, on sukhumvit coming back from Laem Chabang on the left hand side?

    Or you could buy mine?

A Marin Eastpeak with all the gizmos.

I rarely use it to be honest.

    Fancy it?

Here is a picture. I brought it over from England 3 years ago.

The bike shop on the right hand side of teppasit as you go towards the beach has a good stock - i was in there yesterday. I bought my m bike from there about 5 years, and a couple kids' bikes since, and i have always found the service to be excellent. the two shops on the left hand side have nothing like the same selection.

  4. Any follow up info here? Any clinics around to zap them off quickly and cheaply.

My gf is whinging about a tiny skin tag on her butt. I want to just clip it off and be done with it, but she won't let me. I don't want to go down to PIH and pay thousands to remove something as small as a pin head.

OK, I coudn't wait around for useful advice so I went out and did it.

Rajvithi Skincare Clinic opposite the Marriot Hotel on 2nd Road took care of 4 skin tags for 1000 baht.

The (female) doctor first injects local anaesthetic and then lasers them off. I had one taken off my upper lip and 2 off my legs. My girl had the one taken off her butt. Mine weren't the typical "bell" type, so I couldn't cut them off myself as they had a broad area of attachment.

I also got a quote at the skin clinic on the left side of Pattaya Klang near Carrefour. They were asking "from 500 baht per skin tag", so it would seem the clinic near Garden Plaza is being reasonable.

It's time to have some skin tags removed again.

This clinic I mentioned in this last reply in May last year has since disappeared.

Be curious if anyone has come across a good clinic to laser off skin tags. The Pattaya Klang clinic near Carrefour (Big-C Xtra) asks "from 300".

there is another thread on here somewhere about this subject and I followed the tip and had a few removed at a place opposite the front door of Tutcom. The place and the doctor looked a little odd but they did a great job and it was cheap.

  5. thanks all. It is swimming goggles, rather than a diving mask, that I am after. They are available through amazon but was just hoping to get them a bit quicker.

  6. for that money you can probably get one of the bungalows in Jomtien Condotel or, better Grand Condotel, village. Both within walking distance to beach, shops, restuarants, baht bus route and have swimming pools and tennis courts (small charge for the latter). both of which are reasonably secure (by Pattaya/Jomtien standards) and family friendly (plenty live there - particulalrly Grand Condotel village).

  7. look at Grand Condotel or Jomtien Condotel (depending on your budget) on the beach side of Thappraya Rd about the Jomtien/Pattaya border. whether renting or buying you can't go far wrong with either development in terms of location and facilities and in GC some large units at reasonable prices.

  8. Can anyone help please with the following:

I want to legally dispose of old household rubbish (eg old furniture and large household items) that is too much for the normal refuse collection). Are there any offical sites?

anywhere that sells wallpaper paste? Homeworks and the rest try to sell me latex glue. I'm no DIY expert but this doesn't seem practical for large jobs.

  9. The layout of the foundations certainly has the look of an Avalon or perhaps more likely the resort taking shape next to VT3 which goes to 7/8 floors at the rear and is a much bigger development than Avalon. Either way, there will be plenty of room left to squeeze a couple of towers behind.

  10. The proposed development Guderian describes sounds very similar to the new resort which is being built on the VT3 site next to Pattaya Park. So could be some truth in it.

  11. the whereabouts of 5A & B has been discussed elsewhere on this site, but I understand if you take a look at the board outside of VT3, it does, or at least did, refer to those 2 blocks being 5A & B. As to the amusement park. I think it was a moveable funfair that had apparently leased the site for 1 year. The site did get cleared, and within a few days at least part of the fair turned up but never got unloaded from the trucks parked at the Threppaya Rd end of the site.

Just had a another look at the current work. The plot that they have dug out looks alot more like a wing of an Avalon type building (or the row of lowrise currently being built within VT7) than a VT and it is a long way forward -I would say 50 meters from the sea. Perhaps vt7 owners will soon be starting their own court action to protect their view!

  12. took a look last night. the big hole they have dug looks too narrow (and short) to be a normal size VT - it is also very close to the boundary fence on the jomtien side of the plot. However, the whole plot is definitely getting a lot of attention - walls being refurbished, site levelling and some of the bigger trees being taken away. something is definitely up.

  13. I would also recommend Max - good value and the pasta was spot on. Also, there is a very small resturant just off soi buakaow, near the Essex Arms and bowling club. I went a few weeks ago, the food was good, the wine very cheap but very drinkable. The place itself is very basic but it had a good atmosphere - they stick some long tables outside at night which were full of Italians - always a good sign.

  14. i was told by a BEST teacher that because of the all public holidays this week and next, the school is closed until the 13th but also that the half term break due for later in July is now cancelled. I don't know if there is any link with H1N1 but in any case the idea of consolidating the various holidays into a single break seems to make sense - albeit it was very short notice so maybe there is more to it.

  15. just got a call from a resident of Dongtan Beach who said there was a gang fight at lunchtime on the edge of the car park between what appeared to be two small gangs of beach traders/sellers. Apparently two were left seriously injured (unconscious) and taken by their friends to hospital. The locals said it had been brewing over the last couple of days. I can't see any information on the news services but no reason to doubt that this was a true story.

  16. I am reasonable sure that you need to go the Embassy in Bangkok but suggest you check on the Embassy website in case they have changed the rules with the opening of the new office in Jomtien. The website is also helpful for downloading the forms and checking which documents etc you need take - which they are very strict about .... don't go to the Embassy without them or you will be rejected.

  17. I haven't checked recently, but a Sunday morning Tennis Club at Jomtien Condotel has been advertised in the past in the local papers. Even if the ad isn't there any longer it may be worth paying a visit as the courts seem to be in regular use (both Thais and Falang).

  18. Does anyone have any recommendations please for suppliers (including installation) of retractable awnings to cover my patio. I have looked at a few of the stands that set up in or close buy the supermarkets, but the salemen haven't filled me with much confidence. Although I don't want to overpay I am mainly interested in getting something which has decent quality.
