  1. I'm 50 this year and want to apply for a single entry non immigrant O visa in the UK so I can then apply for the 1 year extension of stay based on retirement. I have the 800k required sat in my Thai Bank account and can replenish that every year to meet the ongoing requirement, but my question is on the UK end to get the non immigrant O. I am not drawing a pension yet so can't show the £1,400 a month. If I move the annual equivalent just say £20,000 from my savings account into my UK bank account for 3 months is this enough to satisfy the financial requirement ?

I have capital but not pension income. Any advice appreciated, I could travel out on a tourist visa and here mention of Lao for a non immigrant O, would they accept my Thai bank balance for the issue of a non immigrant O.

    Thanks

  2. It's all right for you lot.............................I'm not allowed to booze for the next TWO YEARS :o

Lampard 10, it's not your fault England didn't qualify so get back on the champers in a couple of weeks, we don't hold it against you. Alternatively, all the big hotels "read the tourists we really want" ( except the 7-11 Russians who we spend a fortune chasing) will be selling it on election days if you reallly want to get on it.

Me, I'm off to Cambodia for xmas for a reality check, it helps put things in perspective.

  3. As I have been travelling this week and not online I was wondering whether there has been any update on the search for the killer of this woman. A lot longer than 3 days, 5 days, 1 week until this case is resolved seems to have passed. I for one would like to know that the killer has been brought to justice and it hasn't just been a short term shocker conveniently fprgotten about during the upcoming election campaign.

    Thank you for any updates.

  4. Firstly I would like to say what a very sad case this is, a totally innocent young person with all to live for having their life cut cruelly short. My sympathies to the family who have shown great dignity whilst in Thailand trying to cope with such a terrible loss

Having read this thread from the start there is one point I would like to pick up on regarding perceived safety when travelling/working in a foreign country.

Several contributors such as CanadianGirl and DamianMavis expressed their view from experience that Japan was a relatively safe country compared to others, with the latter stating " amazingly safer than countries such as the UK " using this as a reason why perhaps Japanese women aren't fully aware of the dangers in other countries when travelling.

The same I feel may be true of foreign women travelling to Japan. I draw your attention to the terrible murders in Tokyo in the recent past of both 21 year old Lucie Blackman and 22 year old Lindsay Hawker, 2 separate cases of British girls who were working to travel in Japan. I would hope these cases have made all female travellers to Japan more aware of the dangers of a perceived " safe country ", with Miss Hawker's sisters making a statement publicly at the time to this effect.

The moral of the story is to be vigilant wherever in the world you travel as you probably won't be fully aware of all the dangers in the country you are visiting.
