  1. Enjoyed both games on GMM Z box last night. Being based in Isaan the Ch3 signal has a bad reception and True I dumped a long time ago. 1590 Baht for the Euro 2012 was well invested and I am looking forward for the games tonight.

For German speaking users, sign up for a free 7 days trial at Bong TV and you can download all games if you have a minimum of 3mbit.

I am not affiliated with them but have been using them for the past 18 months at 5 Euros per month for 75GB storage space. Of course the game is delayed and as it is a Virtual Video recorder, the recording ends when the game is finish.

A small tip for ThaiExpat TV. I would not put a logo on for the Euro 2012 or the Olympics 2012 in London. I done it in the past once for the Beijing Olympics 2008 and the World Cup 2010 in South Africa and received letters from both the Olympic Committee and FIFA. The Android Market account and as well the Apple iPhone developer account was also suspended within 24 hours after launch so if you do decide one day to launch a mobile application, make sure you do not cross the red line. I was involved in the World Cup 2008 mobile application for Sony Ericsson and they were not even permitted to use the name World Cup South Africa 2012 because Sony was the only rights owner.

  2. BB Broadband would be a good option (around 899 Baht/5 or 7 m'bit. They have a customer service centre at BigC. Satellite System are around 3500 Baht but make sure you point the dish at installation to AsiaSat 5 for DW -TV English/Macau Movie channel and a couple of other news channels. If your dish is big enough you might be able to pickup Australian TV.

  3. (Sorry for double posting)

Does anyone know how to get in touch with a GMM representative? I followed the instructions for registering (thanks!) but I get some error. Since the call centre menu is in Thai, it doesn't help much. I tried the other menu options and got put on hold for a while, after which the line got disconnected.

    Thanks for your help, appreciated.

Call 02-02-841-8888 (Press 2/then 0 (zero) for the activation department. You can ask someone for English which takes a while. Have the serial number ready, give full name and address and within an hour you will have full access to all channels.

They charge 460 Baht for all channels after 30 days. It sounds a bit expensive but I am based in Sakon Nakhon and Channel 3 has not a good reception.

  4. I am living about 40km's away from Sakon Nakhon. For me it is one of the greatest provinces in Isaan Everything is near by. HomePro, Macro, Tesco is around 40 minutes away and their is also a big Tesco at Sawang Daeng Ding which is about 30 minutes away. We are based around Phang Khon.

We have around 8 Rai of land and we just moved into our new house. We build the house below 1 million Baht but my FIL runs a construction business so he didn't made a mark-up.

If you ever pass through Phang Khon, let's meet.

  5. The whole contract seems to be some how fishy.

First of all the payment should have been by L/C

(You can't trust the Chinese for 15% advance)

In an L/C it is clearly stated if it is FOB (Free on Board) or CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) Bangkok

If by L/C the payment or delivery terms can't be negotiated and if the supplier makes any changes he would be charged 0.5% of the value which can be a clause in the L/C. Why on earth the Thai government doesn't make payment by Letter of Credit (if L/C banks in China will finance or offer factoring services to the suppliers of the tablets).

and yes, Chinese tablets mostly make it 6 months for the battery but what I am missing is that they could have tested the untis for the past 4 months, running none-stop.

The Airpad tablet which is avaiable at Panthip Plaza for around 6000 Baht would have been by far a better option.

Finally why the government didn't used an L/C makes the whole deal questionable. They could have opened an L/C with Bangkok Bank, SCB or Kasikorn which all are well connected with local branches in Thailand but then again if you open L/C's the deal becomes very transparent.

  6. You do understand that the Koran considers Buddhists even lower than jews and subject to the same treatment don't you? It is attributable the role of Buddha and core Buddhist beliefs. Hindus are in the same class as well.

That's wrong Buddhist's are not mentioned in the Koran but HIndu's are. Muslim's are not allowed to marry them but they are permitted to marry a jew or a christian because they share the same prophets. The Koran says judgement will be given to them when they die but in Islam they are not permitted to kill anyone, except they are allowed to kill to protect their home, belongings and family. Revenge killings is permitted if a family member was killed and the killer didn't compensated the family (wife/father/etc.

Oh yes, I am a Muslim and happily married to a buddhist woman. It took a lot of education here in the Northeast of Thailand to teach Isaan people that the people of the South are Thai's too. Mostly still have not understand that part but they also don't understand that Karen's etc. in the North of Thailand should be Thai's.

oh and yes, honor killings is a traddition and has nothing to do with the Koran.

  7. If you tell an immigration officer to f...k o.. in Singapore, Indonsia, Malaysia or even in Western countries, you can have a lot of trouble too. Singapore would gives you one year but all would jail you and deny bail in you have nmo local residency or can't afford a hotel or apartment during that time.

I feel not at all sorry with people that explode and he can be happy that he actually was out on bail.

I have been living and visiting Thailand for 23 years and never had a problem. Of course I too was at times pi..ed with paperwork etc. when dealing with Thai immigration but i prefer to smile and never loose my temper.

The person who would like to bash now Dubai by linking this case to Dubai. I love Dubai and even Sharjah more and every country has laws. If a UN personal brings in narcotics seeds he should be jailed, if he is that stupid. I know a lot of UN personal's that like to get stoned too so you have a law for everyone.

  8. If the Baht is 42 to the Dollar it would be bad for the Thai economy. Of course I would like it ..

The problem is the global financial and currency crisis. If you see the current exchange rates that has been going on for the past few months it shows that currencies such as the GPB is in a lot of trouble. The Euro has been relative stable.

BTW: Cheap flights to Asia can be booked by AirAsiaX online. I booked a ticket for 8900Baht from KL to London for May 2009.

if thailand wants to get tourist, get the baht back to 42 to 1 usd

    I'm all for that too.

If the baht back to 42 and up. :D I'll be the first to catch the flight to LOS in a heart beat.

The year 2008 will stay with me as the first time (in two decades) I didn't spend my annual Thai visiting here. There is a good reason for that.....While in TL, it was always costed me ( me only) as much as my expenses living in the US. :o

  9. A friend of me is an elite member but he didnt paid for it but he endorsed it to his business partners in Europe. I advised him if he wants some first class service to invest 250,000 (2.5 million Baht) in Malaysia. He did it last year and has a longterm 10 year visa now for Malaysia and owns a condo now in KL and looks now for a house in Penang. Immigration laws should be the same for everyone and not with a way that the rich can bypass the system by banking a million Baht to Singapore. Well done PM Abhisit !

  10. Entry point at airports should stamp 90 days and not 30 days as currently. Both Malaysia and Singapore issue Social Visit Passes for 90 days. If I come for business meetings to Malaysia or Singapore my social visit pass is enough for business meetings and transactions in both countries for 90 days. I get now 15 days if I travel by road to Thailand. Any way I don't want to complain and the waiving of the fees for visas for 3 months is a good move forward.

Ticket prices could go down and THAI could push Star Alliance for their partner airlines. For Songkran they could all increase rates to keep locals travel in the country side.

  11. Please Khun Abhisit, ask the Sec. Gen. of ASEAN Khun Surin Pitsuwan to resign his post and make him the Special Envoy for the South. In addtition stop issueing border passes to Malaysian's and they must carry an international passport by the Malaysian government. 99.9% of all Malaysians that visit the South are good people but that 0.01% needs to be stopped and they have dual citizenship.

  12. Great idea in principal. If you want to work in Thailand, get the correct visa, work permit and pay your taxes.

Finally, immigration is clamping down. I hope they stick to their guns.

    :o

I got to agree with you. Everyone should have a correct visa and not misuse Thailand's visa policies. We should be happy that they let us in for two weeks if we don't have a visa (Thai's need a visa to travel to my country). I always have the correct visa but if I do come in on a 30 days stamp, I normally don't stay longer then one week and use Thailand only for shopping and to buy cheap tickets.

  13. I have been in the field of mobile content development for the past 7 years. I am looking for some freelance work during my spare time in Thailand to develop Mobile content sites for companies and hotels in Thailand.

I am fluent in converting websites in PHP/MySQL into XML/xHTML for the Open Mobile Alliance MP1.1 and MP1.2 standard.

Many of the content I developed are currently showcased at the .mobi registrar.

On request I am able to develop websites as well. I have been in the industry since 1993 with many references throughout Asia.

Please send me a PM, if interested.
