1. ... the best duck soup I have found (so far) I can get from a street vendor who sets up on the outer part of the north-side canal just west of the big high Ford sign.

I love duck, and will try to find this place.

My favourite duck used to have a cart, and now is in a open-air restaurant in a big lot across from the last 7-11 on Huay Keow rd. It is near the back. It is also on my food map (see post 21 of this thread!).

    (Oops - sorry. I am a farang, and don't know 'jack-shit' about food :) )

  2. .

(I woke up early this morning... so I decided to enter a pointless argument on the internet!)

... members here are mostly farangs whose taste of local food is not as important as the ambience. Most foreigners also think cheap food in CM is not hygenic...

Another reason is food is being overshadowed by the sex industry.

In times to come when more attention is being paid to the food, I think more members will be willing to contribute :)

Interesting that after you insult people you usually use a smiley :) .

I have a fantastic Google map of great local food. But I didn't post it as I don't like the insults and the racism. (I also hate smileys! <_< )

There is lots of great cheap food in Chiangmai (and not all is 'sex-burgers' or 'short-time pizza'). Too bad that you are not getting the help you ask for.

Don't worry, trust me. I won't tell others about the places. I am a Asian Chinese and I won't bring other farangs along...

    tsk tsk

  3. I painted my CBR, change of registration wasn't difficult.

You are in Chiangmai I believe? Thanks for the info.

Get my bike on the 16th (I hope...). Ride to Rayong on the 17th, and fly to Winnipeg on the 20th.

If you are CanadaMuck, then I am WinnipegMark. Two weeks in the coldest big city in the world! If it is above -20 when I get there, maybe I will pull out my Honda Nighthawk and ride around on the river.

Yep I am in Chiang Mai, but I painted it when I lived in Chonburi, I don't know if that makes a difference though.

I guess you Winnipegers wait to ride until the mosquitoes are gone.

Mosquitoes and the worst motorcycle insurance rates in the world. My 1983 450 Nighthawk costs $200/ summer month for basic insurance (winter is about $20/month). A CBR125 is $250/month if declared at less than $1,000 value.

    7,500 Baht per month...

    And mosquitoes!

Yup - winter biking on the river for me!

  5. Wjmark,

I think I read somewhere (you doubtless know better) that changing colors on a bike involved Land Transportation and the Green Book? Or am I mistaken?

NO - changing colours just requires a can of paint (or a decent painter). Hehehe...

But to make it legal, YES, must do some registration.

Both Honda and my old mechanic seem to think that it is easy to change registration. They also say that the cops don't care. Around Chiangmai I believe that there would be no problem (I have been through 5 or 6 roadchecks lately, and nobody cared that my registration sticker was out of date - forgot to put the new one on), but for travelling around the rest of Thailand I think it would be wise to have correct paper work!

  6. Sight unseen, I will get mine next Thursday (only red available so far).

Hi are u in Chaing Mai?

will u get the 150 or 250 CBR next thurs ?

Is the 250 avalaible in CM yet and where from ..thanks

Yes - Chiangmai. And yes, I am waiting for the 250 (it is a 250 thread, na?). Trading in my 150...

And different dealers give different answers. One promised me one this week (so I pulled out my credit card), but the next day he changed the date to 27th. But he did me a favour, and got in touch with another dealer who promised me one on the 16th.

Sorry - I am not trying to be coy, but I don't want to say which dealer - they seem to be 'doing me a solid' and I don't want to <deleted> it up...

I wanted black, and everybody said January, maybe February. ABS (which I didn't really care about) is also sometime next year.

So I am getting RED - I'm gonna paint it black (you devils!).

102,900bt with full-face helmet (DOT!), and the Platinum Package (roadside assistance and scheduled maintenance).

ps - I sat on a Ninja a few years ago, and it felt crappy (didn't ride it, so I don't really have a clue!). I did ride a Ninja 500 a few years ago, and it felt choppy and a little boring.

So I am looking forward to a bigger better version of my old 150. Same same but different duh.

  7. It is not the curry paste or different types of curry paste that is relevant to how good a dish is. The different herbs and spices, their combination, cooking methods and the freshness of ingredients is what differentiates good and bad curries.

It's why you need to wait at the New Delhi.

That is exactly why it is worth the wait.

It seems that nobody who recommends Royal, or Le Spice, or Currywood (sic) has even tried New Delhi. They really should...

  8. Chedi sounds interesting. I've heard its good. I've heard it's expencive. So how much are we talking for a curry (with trimmings) in Chedi?

New Delhi does the best Indian food I've had in Chiang Mai, hands down. Well worth the infamous wait.

Just had mine delivered from New Delhi (MOWFY) - not even that long a wait!

    1 309458 Fish Pakora 1 95.00

    2 309492 Kari Pakora 5 475.00

    3 309493 Dhaal Makhani 3 285.00

    4 309556 Chicken Keema Naan1 65.00

    5 309539 Fish Karahi 1 145.00

    6 309518 Mutton Jalfrezie 1 145.00

    7 309548 Jeera Pulao 1 45.00

Very nice (I stalked up on a few dishes). I guess my only complaint is that the Dhaal, the Jalfrezie, and the Karahi were all quite similar (but good). Oh, the Keema Naan could use more Keema. Both fish dishes were very generous.

I love their Kari (Khadi - yogurt curry) - and the pakoras were lighter and fluffier than I remember them. Lots of nice seasonings in the food here - can really taste the freshness of the spices. Not overly salty or oily.

Very much authentic Indian cuisine (Punjabi) - no concessions to Thai tastes.

I don't know why people like Royal so much, and don't even mention New Delhi (which is virtually next door) - far superior in my opinion. Of course, I don't eat there - I get it delivered. So the slowness of the kitchen is not really an issue for me...

  9. Ever consider a Pirelli? The Dragon Supercorsas are what are spooned on my bike and they're bloody brilliant.

    Dragon_Supercorsa_Head_03.jpg

The dealer will ship them to your address at a very good price also....

What size did you get - they are all pretty big for our old small rims.

I have been recommended Bridgestone (BT 090 or BT 039), and apparently they have the standard sizes. Probably about 6,000 a pair. How much were the Pirellis?

  10. Paid 2000 installed. Yes - needed the NSR throttle cable.

My concern is that is doesn't idle too well, and I really want to get the carb properly jetted and set up. Don't want to burn the piston!

Anybody know a master carb setter-upper? (Chiangmai).

How about a Dyno set up? Any in CM?

    Thanks, Mark

ps - the bike is pretty groovy with its 28mm Kehin carb, 166cc piston (67mm vs stock 63.5mm), 47 tooth rear sprocket, and performance down-pipe...

And for those who are interested, I checked out the sprocket on the new CBR - 43 teeth (old CBR 44).

  11. Hey! Just had a 28mm Kehin (NSR) carb put on my bike, and am having idle problems.

Is there a correct way to jet the carb. Or is there someone in Chiangmai who REALLY knows how to set up a carb.

(I won't be going to Honda on Huey Keow, as he rebuilt my engine when all I needed was a new CDI).

Seriously - who is the best for carb setup in Chiangmai?

  12. Train sounds great, BUT don't you have to be on the train with it?

If you want to travel a different way, I believe you can't send your bike by train alone...

And I have heard that when you go through Bangkok, you have to take care of having the bike change trains too.
