1. -Start at primary school teaching kids to ask questions and be able to critize. No more rote learning.

Just to comment on that, at CMU there is a program in place specifically to research into and propose solutions to these weaknesses in the education system. You may be surprised how many university ajarns are aware of these problems and are taking pro-active stances to resolve them. But you probably know, it is not going to happen overnight and will take a long time before the changes start creeping in to the schools.

Thats rather facinating Tywais. Nice to know that some people are trying to fix the education system.

In case anyone read that thinking I'm just alking about thailand. I'm not.

School was bad enough back home, if they discover thigns beneficial to thai education I hope it helps world wide.

I like a world view as opposed to an independent view. Something to make sure globaly we get better. Not more independent.

  2. Taxes should never be used for social engineering.

This is utter stupidity, adding taxes on moral grounds just adds to the complication of getting anything done in the tax system.

If they want people to drink responsibly, stop demonising the stuff, teach people what it is.

What really makes my "BS" meter ding would be how they can look one way and say it's for social benefits, Oh and we checked it would raise our income by Bt30 billion..

Yes... it's for the good of society...

I'm sure that 30 billion wont even be allocated to any kind of education much less education about alcohol.

  3. Went and checked out the store myself.

Good selection of western style boardgames.

The real bonus over Kinokunya, it's got space and copies of the games opened to try them out before you grab em.

I mean I been to Kino and It's all stuffed tightly packed near the kids book shelves. Trying to get at one game I had to pry 5 others out of the way. Not real convenient. Really easy to knock half of it to the floor. (How often did this happen before I got to them?).

Downside? Well My wallet is a fair bit lighter after I came home with some stuff. :)

    *Edit: Corrected meaning*

  4. One man's poor pacifist is another man's domestic terrorist.

I have seen this bloody word thrown around at anything and everything that is mildly irritating and causing issues for the past 8 damned years.

Terrorist are in it to cause terror. To scare people into submission, most recent methods are mass deaths to disrupt life as normal.

Just because it is frustrating, disruptive, or even confrontational does not make it terrorrism.

I do not see PAD people declaring ownership for various attacks or Bombings.

While the take over of the airport Really is a Tall order. Definatly on the illegal side. MANY society changing movements have done those.

How about good old American culture when a Black person sat in the front of the Bus, Wasn't that Illegal?

Right now it's people who just do not want Thaksin back in the country, and for the government not to slip in loopholes into law so they can hop right back into politics even which this massive Clusterfuc_k they have created for the past years.

So no going in with a Machine gun and 'clearing' out the airport is not an option.

Sure many people have been inconvenienced. But I doubt that will be recorded IF this event is recorded in History.

Your Mild discomfort and aggravation is temporary.

So stop thinking about yourself and talk honestly about the actual issue.

  5. hhhmm.

    <Very Big Mahoosive Snip>

    Not you again.

    Chill out.

    That's rather rude and demeaning.

PD has a history of posting long, colorful presentations filled with what many think is a sheer nonsense, and often based on three month old off topic news. Then often he copy-pastes them in every available thread.

I don't think I've ever read any of them til the end, so "mahoosive snip" is a natural reaction I can relate to.

I'd say it's rude and demeaning to subject people to reading his posts - he should get a blog or something, this is a discussion forum, you are supposed to talk TO the people, not AT them.

    That a rather fair comment.

The only thing I was against was the simple Hand waiving and dismissal.

    You explained yourself.

    And thank you for that.

  6. Looks like things are starting now... PAD at ASTV and Don Muang attacked around 1:50AM.

    http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingne...newsid=30089658

    Something is not right...

We have posts saying this from 2:37 that it happened at 1:50am, and NOW at 3:00am we have people mentioning it again? The same way?

EDIT: Sorry I got confused dam_n being tired.

Where is a good place to watch the live stuff? That doesn't require Mediaplayer 11

  7. Fair enough..to change the subject..since you are a fellow aussie and all im interested on your opinion on this...it has to do with australian women..the mere mention of the word "thailand" in regards to a guy visiting or staying is usually greeted with a sneer and contempt followed by the assumption that you are the lowest form of sleazy scumbag and are just going to thailand for dodgey sex purposes. It is one thing that really gets my goat..yet for a female party or couples to go is perfectly fine..have you experienced this????

    I have.

I drove me crazy because I was coming up here to visit family, and all the friends of my partner were telling her I was going to be all kinds of unfaithful no mater what I said Etc...

Most of these people I thought would have been my friend also, after hearing that I wasn't so sure they knew me.

  8. hhhmm.

    <Very Big Mahoosive Snip>

    Not you again.

    Chill out.

    That's rather rude and demeaning.

He put time and effort and went through his thoughts and arguments logically explained himself.

Would you accept after giving a long explanation about why you think a certain way someone went. "Talk to the Hand."

If you don't have anything to discuss about what he said Don't.

Being outright offense by being dismissive accomplishes nothing.

While I may not agree with anything P-D has to say he is correct in saying we don't actually know.

It could easily be any number of people.

Heck it could be some d*ck who thought. "Hey these guys are pretty pissed with each other... How about making them angrya t each other."

TL;DR If you aren't going to discuss what he said <deleted>.

  9. looks like the roads to swampy are cleared?

    C63632A1-9288-7CBB-8EE3B6967C7C3F1B.jpg

    Yellows sir, thousands of 'em!

    HA HA...good one SomNamNah

is anyone gonna go to sleep tonight!?

Not with someone commenting on the potential for the raid to happen now with spotting the police cars near the airport.

  10. Only two things are infinite in this existence, The universe and human stupidity. And I'm not sure on the former.

    Paraphrasing.

In anycase, if they Really want to try hard and say they don't understand, they will. Your better of ditching the cab and finding another.

Worst thing that ever happened to me was coming back form the airport in a metered taxi only to realise the bastard had a dodgy meter that clicked up WAY too fast.

  11. I order late also Usually get the plate of Nacho's From Sunrise, otherwise I order from Talalask.

For prety darn cheap they have great vegetarian dishes. Well actually there's only two my friends and I order when we have a get together.

The garlic and pepper pork (we are guessing it's tofu doesn't actually taste like it but it's definatly not pork/fish/chicken) and the Tempura mushrooms.

Between the three of us we get away with maybe 600 baht. Which is great.

The pies from the pickled liver are good too if you crave a meatpie.

  12. I see that this thread, beginning in a innocuous manner, is turning sour.

So, for me, I have to state some things, that always scratch me ...

This reference to "Caucasian" after talking of "nationalities" is totally irrational.

Only small, isolated places of this world can have a physical stereotype in a given nationality, and there are no such places in Europe for quite some time now.

If someone hopes to tell of one'nationality not by looking at one's passport, then it is a foolish hope.

More than that, I personally expect the world to mix more and more to make assumptions like that more and more foolish.

My wife is Thaï (from the south, i.e. "unfair" (sic) skin) and was acknowledged as a national in Malaysia, Indonesia, The Philippines.

She was somewhat thought to be Tahitian and Indian (in the US, she was asked if she could speak Navajo).

I just tried to show something here, not to hurt ...

It's very difficult to tell ones nationality.

Also some thing people don't seem to notice but recentl;y there is a rather large inscrease of people with Multiple nationalities.

Being one f them when i get the question.

Where are you from. It kinda puts me off, because my childhood was spent in multiple countires.

Ether 'm giving an incomplete answer or I feel like a git for jsut spouting out 3-4 different countires with a timeline where and when.

If you check my passport... pick one.

So I guess that since according to a prvious posters answer, I'm not worth meeting since the question where are you from frustrates me.
