I'm thinking about buying an ASUS Nexus 7. As far as I can see only the old version is available in Thailand - not the Nexus 7 2. I'd be pretty miffed if I bought the old model, only for the new one to be released here the next day. So, does anyone know when the 7 2 is coming to Thailand?
Thanks

Thanks, Fletch for two really helpful replies.
As far as I can see, Bangkok Bank is not currently offering these funds. There's absolutely no mention of them on the BBL AM website that I can see.
I guess for now I'll just be sticking with fixed term deposit accounts and paying the income tax.

Nothing new here. A similar poll a few years ago highlighted the problems with the number 8 bus, and in particular the reckless driving. Common knowledge, yet nothing has been done about it.

Rather than ทุกที (every time) use ตลอดเวลา (always).

More of a wordlist, really. Have a look at http://teen.mthai.com/variety/21288.html

This is a clear testament to the level of education. A car with a big camera and the words "google" on the side and they think it's the Thai government surveying for a dam.
If I were the Thai government and wanted covertly to survey for a dam I'd use a car with a big camera and the word "Google" on the side. Perfect cover. (Except it didn't work out quite as planned.)

Is there any way to turn off the feature that messes up lists which are numbered (a), (
, ©? I definitely don't ever want to post a
smiley. I can't see an appropriate option on my settings page.

Can anyone explain to me how one can buy Bangkok Bank's autoredemption funds (http://www.bangkokbank.com/bangkokbank/personalbanking/buildyourwealth/mutualfunds/autoredemption/Pages/Default.aspx) - apart from the opening of a mutual fund account with Bangkok Bank bit.
They look attractive because (a) the gains appear to be treated as capital gains, rather than income, so isn't taxed locally, and (
they offer a higher return than comparable fixed deposit accounts.
The bit that confuses me is "Subscriptions available during IPO period only".
Are they offered regularly? If so, when?
And is there any information available about how they have performed in practice? They don't even seem to be mentioned on the BBAML website.
Thanks.

I can assure you that the stretching bars in Lumphini park are regularly used by many Thais and farangs alike. And when the bars have broken due to excessive use they have always repaired within a week or so.The equipment wasn't put there to be used for exercise, so there's no point in having it maintained. It's only there so that someone could get a kickback when it was purchased and some politician could get his/her face in the newspaper.
I think there are many people hacked off that access to these bars is being denied (by strung up red shirts maybe??)
There's rather a difference between the iconic Lumphini park and some small park few people have ever heard of. In the province where I live an exercise park was built. Clearly not wanted since nobody ever used it. (Quite literally nobody. I've passed it dozens of times at different times of day and never, ever seen anybody exercising there.) It, like most similar projects in Thailand, was apparently simply a way for a local "influential person" to line his own pocket.

Utility bills is the big benefit. In my province you can't get electricity/water/'phone bills in your own name unless you have the yellow book with your name in it. Not too much of an issue if you're renting, but if you buy a place and all the bills are in your Thai partner's name and the partner dies and you don't have a yellow book you potentially have a big problem.

Places following the Union system (Union, Unity and a few others) have classes for four hours in the morning plus homework which can take up to a couple of hours. Add on time for reviewing what has been learnt and memorising vocabulary, for me that was about as much as my brain could take.

The southern region of thailand is close to malaysia and did u know that thailand or rather the siam kingdom used to own i think almost the entire malaysia until the anglo- siam treaty of 1909
Siam didn't ever own almost all of Malaysia. The four southern Thai provinces used to be independent states. These states paid annual tribute to Ayutthaya, but were not owned, or even ruled by Siam. The Ayutthaya kingdom had little influence further south.
I am not really sure if bahasa actually pronounces their R's.
"Bahasa" just means "language". If you mean bahasa Malaysia (aka bahasa melayu), it does have a distinct "r" sound which is not interchangeable with "l".

What I find a little odd about this discussion is that nobody has mentioned how to type characters such as ɛ́ɛ̀ɛ̌ɛ̂ ə́ə̀ə̌ə̂ ɔ́ɔ̀ɔ̌ɔ̂ ʉ́ʉ̀ʉ̌ and ʉ̂.

A few years ago someone posted a macro to help with this problem. It's discussed and available at http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/86125-typing-tones-on-my-computer/

Are you talking about the 10 million or 3 million investment? Don't see any issue with a new 10 million investment but 3 million was grandfathered so would not be available after loss.
You can work with a work permit and if not available on retirement extension (normally not) nothing to prevent change to non immigrant B visa. You may also be able to extend stay for work until really retired doing this.
I know that I could change to a non-Imm. B and get another work permit, but I won't.
To explain, I did occasional lecturing at a local university teaching MBA students - not for the money, but because I cared about the students, the country and its future. However, given the shoddy way that Immigration has treated me, I'm not going to leap through the hurdles of changing visa type and getting another work permit. I feel sorry for the students, but at the moment my anger trumps my sorriness.

Have a look at this thread for some further relevant information. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/575346-question-on-investment-visa-10-mil-baht/
Key points are (a) single property, (
must be bought from new.
Just one update on what I wrote there. I had an investment visa based upon a fixed term deposit. Previously when the deposit matured and the money was transferred back to the linked savings account I, on the same day, opened a new fixed term account. This worked fine several times. This year, however, this was deemed unacceptable since the investment wasn't continuous and they refused to extend and forced me onto a retirement visa meaning I can no longer work.

QPM is http://www.qpm-co.com/page/aboutEN.php
Personally I wouldn't recommend them based upon experience.

Email unless they have changed the rules back again was disbanded by Krungsri sometime ago. Though some still think they can use it, it is unlikely they will go back to this system. See their latest website ONLY mentions SMS OTP.
After I was corrected by JSixpack I checked on my account. There is indeed a tiny link "How to receive OTP via e-mail?". If you click through it you read:
Steps of Change Request Application Form (For Individuals)
1. Complete the "Change Request Application Form".
2. Click "Next" to verify your detail and then click "Confirm".
3. Print and sign the Request Application Form. The signature must be the same as the signature given when you opened the account.
4. Send the form along with a signed photocopy of your identification document to any branch with passbook for verify signature in person.
5. The bank will confidentially notify you of the update of service function via postal mail and/or e-mail within 7-14 business days.
It certainly looks as if JSixpack was correct about being able to receive the OTP by email.

You need to be more specific. There are different rules for different domain types. .com.au and .id.au for example. However, for most (all?) types it is possible under certain, specific circumstances, e.g. you own an Australian-registered trade mark.
-
By far the easiest way to do this is to use the tool at http://thai-notes.com/tools/ipa_typer.shtml
Just point and click at whatever character you need (only the characters used for Thai IPA are displayed) then copy/paste the finished text.

Krung Sri is pretty good. However, the problem you're going to face is that you need to receive a password by SMS every time you make a transaction. You'd need to check that you can use a non-Thailand mobile 'phone number. This is pretty much the case for all Thai banks.
As for the online system being good, I wouldn't say that. Very basic compared with what's available in, say, the UK.

Just under three years ago I bought a house in a fairly pricey moobaan on the outskirts of Bangkok developed by one of Thailand's leading house builders (name beginning with 'S'). I'd been reassured that they typically managed the moobaan for several years after development so that the company keeps its good reputation. That wasn't to be.
The moment the last house was completed they brought in a third party property manager (name begins with 'Q'), who did a lacklustre job. When the property manager's one year contract came up for renewal they put in a much, much higher quote for continued management. Think 2-3 times higher. It's pretty obvious the initial price was a "loss leader", and they probably presumed that the moobaan committee would just roll over. That didn't happen.
The committee found a new management company (name beings with 'M'), which came in with a reasonable quote. At first things looked good. Trees were pruned. Plant beds were replanted. And then, suddenly, after about a month into the contract, the company sent a letter cancelling the contract.
I guess my questions are:
(1) Are this sort of tactic - low quote, then upping the cost/threatening to walk away - common in the Bangkok area?
(2) Are there cases of upmarket moobaans being left without a management company and so falling into disrepair so soon after being built?
ASUS Nexus 7 2
in Mobile Devices and Apps

After a bit of further digging I found a newspaper report stating that the release date for the new models in Thailand was July this year. That said, IT City and Power Buy are still selling the old models and the Asus Thailand website makes no mention of the new Nexus at all.
