  1. I arrived to Penang late last night and gave my documents to the folks at the Banana and they told me that my visa application (90 day non imm b single entry) could be denied due to me having two other non immb visas this past year. The first nonb visa was obtained last November at a small private school. The school decided that they wanted to hire two Filipino teachers instead of me for the upcoming school year and we parted ways. The second visa I got was in May through an agency. During the second month I got extremely sick and I had to spend two weeks in the hospital and I was to weak to work upon release. The hospital thought that I had a severe form of salmonella. I've been doing 15 day border runs since my termination. What are my options if my visa is denied?

    Lynn

how many consecutive 15 day border runs have you currently?

  2. went to a fairly professional sgency in bkk with online listings i wanted to see.

they required i take the listings they choose, rather then me going through them and telling them what i wanted.

rationale was that they had to check on availability. in pther words the online listings were not current snd many were not available.

after getting their emails of availabilities (all slightly higher in rent then my stated max) told them i did not have time to review ongoing emails of properties that did not suit my needs for one reason or another.

  3. It's not black and white and I have at times thought about it but, all things considered, I believe Thailand remains a better option for my kids at the present time.

I think Thailand is a great place for kids.

In the UK, my kids wouldn't be having much fun, now or in the future.

As the OP seems to be talking about returning to the UK, let me point out bullying in UK schools is endemic. As your kids are half-Thai they will be mercilessly victimized. Not only the racist insults, but my mum says your mum was a hooker, etc. I used to work in schools in the UK, and it's a pretty nasty scene.

'your mom is a hoe' that's been goin on since I was in school and many years previous to that. it's not new.

i have heard some reports of 'buggery' in the uk which would disturb me if i had kids there.

  4. its the taboo against being critical thats going to set a child back here, esp if they migrate to a western country. it makes it difficult to learn how to solve problems in personal and professional life.

A non-issue in schools with western curriculum and western teachers.

do you go out for hamburgers afterwards and hide in a condo all night too?

You're not giving your hypothetical spawn much credit then are you, if you think that they'll revert to sheeple as soon as they as they step out of the condo.

I spent the first 16 years of my life living and being schooled in nowhere other than Thailand and I've yet to see the usual damning platitudes about what growing up in Thailand will do to children manifest themselves in any of my (international school) peers in the same caricature way that those platitudes are quite often bandied about, notwithstanding the prevailing behavioural politics in Thai culture at large and the worldwide distribution of common sense and character.

thats quite a sentence methinks. hiw long did it take you to write it?

  5. Grace clinic did an excellent job for me and my friends. They were very professional and thorough.

I am not sure why so many people recommend Grace.. I've gone there about 4 times. Each time it was a horrible, horrible experience. The dentists were incredibly rough and painful.

I've also tried Elite Smile. The one girl everybody talks about is really pretty good. However, the junior level dentists are also as bad as Grace. While getting a couple cavities filled, I ended up cutting the procedure short. I let her complete the first one and said no more.

So, after 5 years, I'm still looking for a Chiang Mai dentist that doesn't beat my teeth and mouth up like a shade tree car mechanic swapping engines on a '52 Ford.

    -Mestizo

i dont recommend grace. my dentist there was singing to background music during a procedure. strange focus on sunglasses for the light, lip balm and other such spa-like things which are overkill and strange in a dental environment imho.

also, strangely no xrays, even on my first visit. guess they thought i was just passing through. also, a request for my passport before a cleaning procedure. needed to see if my visa was valid i guess.

  7. is it papa they are saying or is it 'papi'?

very different meanings. never heard someone being called papa unless as a jest or joke.

papi is common and has a derogatory undertone, though i doubt people in asia grasp the meaning. its more a mexican thing.

  8. The Chong Chom border crossing into Cambodia allows unlimited 15 day visa exempt stamps. Kap Choeng Immigration which is 11km north of the crossing has verified this. I also know individuals that are hear after 6 months of 15 day hops

But that could always change with no advance notice.

Also that is probably not a real busy crossing for those that are here working illegally like those near Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Chong Chom also demand cash, 100b at least from everyone crossing over, before you get stamped back into Thailand.

I think I can gather why they're allowing continuous 15 day runners. rolleyes.gif

Anyway, OP, please post a pic of said stamp.

so paying 100 baht is in your favour then as you get what you want... better than crying at kap choeng because they want to keep the 100 baht change.... see it does work in the favour of the falang sometimes

is paying 100 baht or 3 usd even an issue? you must be pretty broke to even bring this up. you expect everythinb to be free?

posting pages out of my passport wont happen here. request denied.

  9. over 20. immigration officers are the same, alternating between entry and exit if i noticed correctly.

as for now, i suggest you don't risk and try to cross any land border. you might have a slim chance getting rejected entry from the other side as well when they see you being red stamped from thailand unless you have a proper visa for the country you are entering for. if that happens, you would get deported back.

getting stuck in myanmar without a visa is not my cup of tea. i guess you mean they would deport me back to home country (usa) if thailand rejected entry. i would sit in myanmar detention until i could buy a return ticket?

or, as was my inital question, could i in such a situation fly from myanmar into thailand and get a 30 day entry stamp? would the red stamp apply only to land crossings, or also at the airport?

    There is no RED STAMPING.

IMHO, if there is a problem Thai Immigration would let you know before they would stamp you out of Thailand.

And the myanmar entry stamps from the Thai-Myanmar border will not allow you to travel to Rangoon to catch a flight back to Bangkok.

so i show up on the day my last 15 expires and they tell me in exit no more passes?

the option is then to get out of the country within a day or two and settle affairs.

if im lucky and hear the agent correctly, they may mention it on the last pass as to give me forwarning (the red stamp).

  11. bring nodoze next time. quietly and politely offer one to the driver, or offer a canned coffee.

i stopped taking the minivans. the last driver on a redeye run was high me thinks. i said something to him at a rest stop and he just stared, red eyes, not blinking. this was a chiang mai to ventiane overnight run.

  12. should have cleared immigration in phuket for an international flight out, not bkk.

you dont clear immigration if its just a connecting flight and your not leaving the airport.

did you clear immigration in sydney, or just waltz in there too?

you have an uncanny ability to circumvent incompetent immigration counters me thinks. might as well ditch the passport as well.

I didn't get an entry stamp to Australia because I'm Australian so I didn't need one.

    i smell a troll

  13. what red stamp was that and what reports had you seen a restriction on border crossing? i only heard of red stamps on tourist visa. previously there was only a thread about max 4 border crossing but afew members including me posted having no issues despite having more than 4 consecutive stamps. im in maesai now and had been crossing maesai border nearly daily, no issues. From what i know and told, they are stopping passport with dodgy stamp from mailing passport for stamps, getting a dispatch for stamps etc etc

why are you given a red stamp? what did they told you? it could be your nationality, i don't know.

how many consecutive 15 day stamps do you have crossing mae sai currently?

hard to see, but are you getting the same immigration person each time on the entering side?

  14. There is no red stamping for 15 day runners.

Mae Sot seems to be checking people after 3 consecutively visa run, but that is legit n in line with the official policy.

If you stay longer in this country than it is better to get tourist or non immigrant visa, plenty of option available.

what do you mean 'checking people'?

  15. That's serious sh.t,what border?

    How many crossings?

Seems like the Immo are trying to make it more difficult to border hop.

Sorry don't know about airport, probably ok at present, but that could be next.

    Good luck.

i dont think it matters what border does it?

reports are you can now get only 3 or 4 15 day land passes.

this could not be per border or people could simply travel around in a circle all year and get stamps.

im getting s new visa soon so not an emergency for me, but it could cause inconvience towards the end.

  16. I fail to see how this has anything to do you, the farang? Are you Batman? Why don't you tell her to ask her friends who actually speak the language in the country she lives for advice? Or did she come to you because she needs financial help because of the alleged incidents? Either way, if she is involved in all this drama, she is probably someone best avoided.

interesting how many on this forum just want to walk away and avoid the situation.

i have found this true for many of the expats i have met in los.

they are good for drinking buddies and shooting the bull, but thats about it. in short, simps. that rhymes with wimp, simp.

is this lady a girlfriend? if so you will be looking for a new one very shortly if you 'dont get involved'. plenty around to run from problems with.

history of the altercation is insignificant since they are entering her shop they are in the wrong.

how about a vicious military or police trained animal to protect the property?

you can pin it on the dog if anything happens. some of these can be quite vicious and a well trained one may not set you back much esp if the fate of the business is at hand.
