1. I wonder how many TV members have in truth a return home to living on welfare ahead of them?!

I bet if you were ever to suffer a severe long term disability you will also head back to England expecting others to fund your existence, and please don't tell me private insurance will cover such costs as it won't

why dont you just say it, AIDS

  2. you will likely be safe buying spirits from a liquor selling store. i would not buy from a street vendor.

I guess the big duty free shop in between the two immigration points is a liquor shop.... hm hm...... no?

no, its a fake thats setup to look like a liquor shop.

  3. was it a threat, "or was it an attempted robbery"?

stay out of it, what kind of simps do we have here? certainly ones who have no backup or favors owed when your time comes.

And your advice to the op would be.....

from the details provided it sounds as if the friend has confided which is basically asking for assistance.

if the friendship is valued they should be there to ensure the friend is not harmed if needed.

they are not to enter the friends store if requested. lock the door or prevent entry. the boyfriend is currently testing to see what he can get away with. you must stop this now early on.

if the boyfriend held the lady during an attack and is now coming in alone, i would arm myself in this situation if it were me.

  4. the cologne is definately fake. tried a bottle of polo black which im very familiar with. absoltuely filled with some cheap perfume. the glass bottle was a good imitation, could not tell from the bottle it was fake.

but you knew that right? famous city for knock offs, its not supposed to be real. part of the fun is the inspection. try it before you buy it.

  5. one thing you will learn here is that nobody cares what you do as long as you dont make waves and can put on reasonable aires.

you wont find anybody investigating your situation in all but the worst offenders.

this is true of many things here.

  6. Have never seen them anywhere in Thailand for Sonicaire, and I have looked all over including big c, tesco, airport plaza etc. Please post if you find them.

    re.

I'd rather buy a new toothbrush here

tesco lotus used to sell them ... today ?

    dave2

They did about a month ago. I haven't been in there since.

are you sure it was sonicaire before i make the trip down there?

  7. There are lots of nice beach communities in phuket that are the size you are looking for and not expensive. Not patong obviously, but you may want to base yourself there as you travel to the surrounding areas, since it has more amenities for the visting traveler. Dont catch aids while you are there.

Many real estate agencies are online and explain the different communities, you can even map out properties before you arrive via online listings, agents even drive you around for free. Good way to get a feel for the area, even a guide that knows everything. What more can you ask for?

I wont get into explaining to you whats there. Why? Because its not my decision and what I like wont be the same as what you need.

  8. you should rent the place for a month at a higher rate then sign the year lease if possible. many places will allow it.

i hear you about the privacy issue. had the same thing happen more then once. its one of the worst situations and makes both parties uncomfortable.

i have found that people react to the irritation different ways, some avoid, others move, and others get overly chatty or friendly, others want to come over all the time.

but whatever the response, it does not solve the issue, still feels weird having someone watching.

  9. How stupid can this get? Do we want the whole world to be one big, amorphous mass where all the shops, food, movies, culture etc are all the same?

One of the reasons I have enjoyed travelling and living in different countries over the years was that I saw and experienced something different; I was tired of walking around towns in the UK that were essentially all the same (many of the old shops of character had died out).

If you want sidewalks, go to a country that has sidewalks. Don't try and change Thailand to make it fit what you want. Either love it or leave it.

    I thank you.

many people dont want to move. they would rather change things where they are.

if you dont like it, move.

  10. It's probably the energy of the place that's bothering you, and not the traffic per se.

The noise of motorbikes builds after awhile. So does the energy of the constant stream of festivals, people drinking, etc. It all seems to linger until the next one comes along. Massages don't work for long, neither does alcohol. Trips to nature, Pai etc. do work while I'm there and shortly thereafter.

It's much harder to reflect, relax or even read like I used to.

  11. Well, at least we have the young lady's excuse for being out on the streets at that time..... You, on the other hand, Blether, seem a little less forthcoming whistling.gif .... C'mon mannie.... 'fess up!! wink.png

he obviously has had no luck at spicys, and was weighing up the dross left around the moat, nothing to be ashamed of,im sure its a well trodden path for a few disconcerting farangs over the years.

spicy has been closed for ages.

  13. take a day and walk down the sois around smith. there are plenty of cute monthly stays available in old thai style / character places.

cant give specifics as i dont remember the name. but one is on the same st as smith enterance walking down towards the wat. really nice quality place, thai style wood structure.

why would you want to stay in a big ugly apartment complex if you dont have to?

  14. 1) A lot of open air markets

    2) shopping mall probably bigger than the one back home

    3) better theaters than the west

    4) bowling alleys

    5) open air bar areas where you don't necessarily have to drink

    6) a stroll around the moat areas to watch all the freaks

    7) night bazaar

    8) china town night bazaar

    9) star gazing on Doi Suthep

    10) Lake Huy Thung Thao

    11) Fishing at a stocked pond

    12) Coffee shops with Internet and more people watching

    13) Go kart track

    14) multiple restaurants on the river

If you're a nature person and an explorer CNX is located close to other cities making a great base for day trips to places like Pai, Chiang Rai, Phrao and others, I'd recommend getting a scooter/motorcycle, but many will try and scare you off. In that case the cheapest vehicles are the Nissan NV (<100k)and the Nissan Sentra, the Toyota Vios or Honda City will probably give you the best fuel economy, and cost triple. (>300k but < 400k)

The proximity of food to where you live will determine your need for a vehicle. Food can be next door but cost 120 baht per dish, where as you can travel a couple of blocks and it will cost 30 baht if you can eat Thai food everyday with occasional western food (some cannot).

I eat Thai food almost everyday, but even still...it's hard to keep a 200 baht per day budget, since you will need water, the occasional soft/fruit drink and a snack/candy bar every now and then. A beer or two a couple days a week doesnt hurt much either.

Living close to a shopping mall in the beginning is a good start, as Eek mentioned Huay Kaew road close to Kad Suan Kaew mall is a good vicinity.

so basically your saying its either shopping, going out into nature or eating?

@Jelopi, I think KSR1 has given you a good list to go on with..... I'm sure you'll soon start to find other things you like about CM.... If you do, could I ask you to update the thread with your new ideas,,,,,,,, (I think Jacktrip is desperately in need of some guidlance on how to lead a more fulfilling life!....whistling.gif )

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your stay.

    <flame to another member removed>

why dont you contribute some ideas rather then just rehashing what was said in a previous post?

  15. For my personal pastime enjoyment. I let a lot of people go in front of me whilst queuing.

And i stay very polite to someone who goes in front of me.thumbsup.gif This makes them feel very uncomfortable.

    pfffttt...

no, it just makes you the invisible man who never gets served.

  16. Perhaps you need to get off the bar stool and out more if you think shopping and drinking are the only things to do in Chiang Mai at night.

Ok I have to ask: What other things?

I can think of playing around on the internet.. Watch TV or a movie.. Extended dinner.. Go for a massage? Nighttime golf? Anything else? All the temples are closed at night. Or did you mean the night safari? Even that gets boring after a couple times. wink.png

I'm also interested in what there is to do around here at night. We finally moved and we aren't into drinking much. Whats out there?

  17. Sorry about bumping an old thread up but im still vexed about an incident that happened yesterday evening

I'm driving along carefully at about 80kmh up north on the main highway with my wife and children in the car and this motorbike/scooter with no lights on and 3 teenage boys on rides straight into my path from nowhere! <deleted>!

I take avasive action to avoid massive carnage succesfully, although it was touch and go for a few seconds.

I stop my car to make sure my family is o.k, then get out to see the youths laughing and drinking a bit further down the road at some shop/shack. I start to walk over shaking, fighting the urge to knock the rider out with the adrenelan pumping .

My wife stops me saying if i'd hit them i would have to pay Xbaht and go to jail etc

So the fact that they sit there drinking/laughing afer nearly killing my family is of no consequence, they will not learn or be punished?

I personally think it was a game of dare or maybe stupid ignorance.

    Rant over.

never thought it was possible to lose a car vs motorbike battle. your driving must really suck.
