  1. We stayed in Bang Saen couple days meeting relatives early June. It was my first time there and as told already, it is a weekend and public holiday city. Nothing happens other days. Beach boulevard was nice to walk and had a lot of food stalls, but the beach was full of small rubbish and on Saturday night the sea was full of trash. Can't blame farangs about trashing because 99.99% of people were Thais
  2. I met Tim 2006 when I lived in Pattaya. He had a small language school where my wife learned Finnish. At that time Tim stayed winters in Pattaya and was teaching English in Chonburi. Summertimes he came back to Finland where he worked long days to earn enough money to reside in Thailand in future. He was almost fluent in Thai already 2006 and some English language degree from (if I remember correctly) University of Leeds. Already then he had motorbikes which he customized, and that propably explains why there were 3 motorbikes front of a house. I lost contact with him about 10 years ago so I don't know what has happened after that, but as with many Finnish he took a drink or 10 time to time, and I think this might be one of the reasons why he passed away at age 54. R.I.P
  3. Update: They are now "temporary" closed. Wife read Facebook that this club has been closed for 3 days now, but this news article says it's closed since yesterday. https://news.ch7.com/detail/536325 Maybe they read this topic and acted quickly????. They took 500 baht montly payment last week though. Lets see what happens
  4. Maybe this is not so familiar thing for foreigners, but you might heard it from your Thai family. What I understood, they sell so called insurance which covers only death. Usually broker is someone from the village and have sold insurance to many villagers. 500 baht monthly payment and beneficiary gets 200 000 baht after a death of the person who was insured (in my wife's family case). I haven't paid any attention for this since I heard my wife is paying this kind of insurance. Thats over 15 years ago. I talked about stock market investing insted of this... As we are not living in Thailand at the moment my wife's sisters take care of payments and this week when she went to pay insurance she was told that they are not paying any benefits at the moment. So I made some research. and it appeared that payment problems started at least 2015: https://www.nationtv.tv/news/378704021 Article is two years old. About meeting at the police station. That time they were short 50 million baht. Next article (from last year) is about how they have changed their management and cutting cost, so they have been in red all the time. And started to sell another insurance to cover death due Covid-19. https://www.makkhaeng.com/25-07-63-p-tiger/ Sister of wife was told that there were over 100 people on line waiting for payments. Who knows is it 1 000 or much more.
  5. https://www.social-protection.org/gimi/gess/ShowWiki.action?id=443 So what link above tells, there must be a contibutions by employers for longer time before employees can get benefits. Text is by the laws in 2010, so there were benefits already then. Laws and benefits might be different nowdays, and someone who knows better can update what are rules nowdays. I read earlier this year in the newspaper, Bangkok Post, an interview. Guy who had lost some basic job told he could get 500 baht from government every month, so benefits might be at that level for many. There is a link on the same website for old-age benefits, so there are those also. My wifes both parents get those. I don't post sums, as I don't remember how much, but benefits are now higher than couple years ago.
