  1. With the requirement for flight tickets at the Thai consulates in Penang and Singapore, I wondered if anyone has recently applied for a Thai tourist visa in Kuala Lumpur? Is it business as usual or are there additional hardships?

    Thanks :o

If it's a 60 day tourist visa (extendable-90 days) you want then KL is very straight forward and hassle free. Simply turn upto to the consulate bright and early, fill in the form, take a queue number, when you are called just hand them your apllication form, passport, 110Ringit (local currency), 2 photos and return the following morning to pick up your passport with your shiny new visa inside.

Thanks! What time can you get the Visa in the morning?? In Singapore you don't get your visa till the next afternoon meaning you pretty much have to stay another night before you can get a flight back to Thailand.

  2. Well I'm back, although this will be the last time for me! The woman at the visa desk just asked if I was going to be employed or studying for any course, then charged me $50 and handed me a receipt! Done and dusted in under a minute. Although I was holding off on the celebrations until I could see it with my own eyes. Which I did the next day - although this one also had a stamp on it saying that this was the one end only time I can apply for a tv in Singapore.

So I have another 60 days at least. I will try for the 30 day extension at the immigration office here in Krabi - but I'm not counting on it. I'm going to have to move on as my time here has come to and end, thanks to this. It's a shame as I love Thailand, but that's the way it is I suppose.

Thanks for all the views and advice

Does anybody have any recent reports on Singapore for Visa Runs??? Or is everyone going to Laos these days?

  3. From what I here there are really not that many Airlines that enforce and check Visa status etc. unless they have had a spate of problems. I have never had my passport checked passed the first page by the airlines.

Now a question I have had for ages (maybe I should have just Pm's Loburi3 on this as he is the man with the answers) but here goes:

I was reading the bogus thread about staying for 20 years that was just a wind up and now this thread about how to get and stay for 3 years or so. But I have always wondered what would happen if you came on a Visa or anything and just stayed for years and years (maybe even 20) and didn't get caught???? Would you just go to your the airport with your passport (of which you can keep up to date) and pay the max fine of 20,000 baht or would you got the an IDC for 500 or so years???

Very bad attitude. Don't come here.

Very good reply, very good advice although if he (?) did come on those terms I am sure a spell in the IDC would alter that attitude problem.

Hey guys it was not a bad attitude... it was a theoretical question. I don't think any people would consider it seriously... I just posed the question based on the infomation in previous posts. Ie. someone saying they had 20 years overstay (bogus) and another talking of the immigration issues with Australia.

Is there anything wrong with having an undertanding of the laws and Visa issues? I read these posts with a lot of interest and use the information and advise well and follow the rules, respect Thai's and Thailand's laws and my attitude does not need adjusting thank you. Next time I will spell things out a little more so you don't jump so quick. Also thank you for the answer Maestro. I would not take a chance like that even if the punishment was one day in an IDC. Cheers

  4. I posted the question below in another thread however I think it relates to the current topic here also because if a Thai does overstay a Visa in Australia and gets caught 1 month or 10 years later it would just be a short stay in a comfortable cell followed by a pretty friendly deportation.

    The question:

  6. I think his whole post was bogus! I have done alot of research on this subject now and those who did get in trouble in 2003 paid big baht! But there have been 10,000's of people that have used visa services to send passports and all has been ok for them. I wouldn't say do it but I can't find one bit of info anywhere on the web where someone with a real stamp (ie. done by a corrupt official correctly) has been in any trouble. And there doesn't seem to be any reports for years yet it is still going on. What does this say about the system? Even the investigation relating to the problems in 2003 stalled (stopped) and nothing was done about it.

  7. Why not? I was doing a search on the subject and found this.

I want to understand this fake stamp/ send passport thing. It happens and there are corrupt officials that do it. Also the agents that sell the service seem to be untouchable. I have yet to find any info on people having any problems with real stamps in passports that have been sent and only a few that have been in serious trouble 100% fake stamps.

I think it may be possible that thai immigration know all about it and let it happen. I think areas of Thailand are very tourist friendly and want most people to have Visa's and easy access and other areas where they are very anti tourist/farang... It really is political. It seems for example that police and immigration in Phuket have a very differnent line of thinking to those in BKK.

  8. Was just reading this thread and the report from Topcat

(I am on bail of 27,000 baht plus legal fees. I have to appear in court in another 8 days. I am cooperating fully with the authorites. I strongly advise any one else who hs used an agent take steps now, you will be caught, you will be prosecuted. )

I think there would be no chance for anyone to get bail for a Visa Violation and 27,000 baht! No way! If possible would be more like 250,000. Was this post just to create fear? It seems bogas to me... why do people do that????? And yes I know these posts are old but I was doing some research on the subject.

  9. Back in Oz it may be worth using documentation to obtain a non immigrant B visa for your future visits - but you are not going to obtain in the local area without a work permit being applied for so tourist visa from Vientiane fits your current requirements.

Thanks. Think I will wait till back in Oz to do a Non B. But now I am thinking that I will only stay here for 3 more months ie. 1 Tourist Visa and then go back. Because I am in Phuket wouldn't Singapore or KL be a better option for just one Visa? Although my last visa was from Singapore and I have 4 x 30 day stamps, 3 from a while back and one after the Visa. Would I get a Visa TV in Singapore now?

  10. OK, TV's it is then. They give us Brits non-o's like they are going out of fashion, but I think they read somewhere that we sent all the crims down under! :o

Isn't a Non O only if you have a thai wife or child?

On the crims thing... you know that the majority of people the UK sent to Australia after America won the war of independance where small offenders. The serious Crims got hung, kept in UK maximum security or got sent to Norfolk Island. Also the total number of convicts sent to Australia was tiny. There where more police, military and their families by far in the initial waves and then after that it was just normal migration. I had a family member that did a 300 year family tree and almost all the relatives came as military or for farming. I am not sure of the exact stats but will look into it. Since I have been in the the LOS the point on convicts has been raised about Aussies a lot. Seems to be a cheap shot (not saying yours was) but the crime rate in Australia is smaller then the UK and A LOT smaller then the US.

But also to all reading. Please keep this thread on topic as I want as much advice as possible.

  11. 1.) Yes I am serious. Sorry I don't make the rules. (But nobody really needs to know, until she gets peed off with you)

    - That is amazing. If that is the case and you need a non B and a work permit just to manage your investments back home how would yoy go about applying for everything? Every man and his dog that has a business in their home country and lives here uses the net and phone to keep things at home in line.

2.) Tourist visas don't count against you, 30 day visa exemptions may do one day. If you are only staying for a short while then TV's are probably the way to go, in terms of hassle, paperwork etc.

    - I only want to stay here for 3 to 6 months this time around but I may only go home for 1 to 3 months and be back again so I want to do what is best for a good history. And do I need a Non B to own a business here? Or a stake in one?

  12. OK 2 questions:

1.) 'I have another business back home that I can take care of via the internet in phone'. How do you plan to do this? A work permit is required even for this kind of business.

2.) On what grounds do you plan to get your non-imm 'b' if you are not working?

Many potential problems here my friend.

    1) I mean via internet and phone. I just mean that any issues etc. relating to my business at home can be taken care of via the internet or on the phone. Are you serious that a work permit is required to manage your business interest in your home country? I can't see how that would be possible.

    2) I can get the company that I am purchasing 50% of to support my Non B application and get a work permit if needed as there are a number of staff etc. however if I am just the owner and there is no real need to work in the business is this needed? It is really just an investment into an already performing business to help it grow further.

    Look forward to your comments.
