  1. ^ Yes, all Thai teachers are supposed to have B.Eds or a degree in their subject and a graduate degree in teaching.  In other words, they are subject to the same requirements as foreign teachers (actually, it's the other way around!).

Some subject teachers - music, art, dance, computers, etc. - don't seem to meet the requirements for getting a license, so schools are probably allowed a certain number of non-licensed teachers for non-academic subjects.

  2. You must be at least 20 years old...

The only age limit applies to Thai employees, and that is 60 years old.  However, if they need that employee, they will hire them back on an annual contract.  All foreigners are already on annual contracts, so age limits do not apply to them.

However, individual Universities may have age limits as part of their internal policies.

  3. Volunteering is a big royal project.  Blue cap, yellow shirt and some networking.

I believe that government departments all have quotas for volunteering that they have to meet.  I wouldn't be surprised if one Farang counts for 2 Thais!  ????

  4. ^Also Type O retirement visa, though it will not be possible to get this until the borders are open again.

This visa will require 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account or proof of a pension of 65,000 baht per month.

You cannot apply for this visa in your home country, but need to apply for it in a nearby Thai embassy or consulate (Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc).

  5. Flight logs show that Trump flew on the Lolita Express at least once and that Clinton flew on it many times.  However, aside from the one girl who claimed that Trump raped her and then withdrew the charges after receiving death threats from Trump supporters, none of the girls on the flights testified that either of them committed any improprieties.

  6. Actually, for someone who is relatively inexperienced this job doesn't sound that bad.  You basically need to plan just one 25 minute lesson per week which you then repeat 20+ times.  That about 4 or 5 lessons per day. (unless my math is off, that's only 2 or 2.5 hours per day)

I would look closely at the other aspects of this job.  Do you have a 12 month contract?  What kinds of grading/record keeping is expected?  Is there a lesson plan format in English and how often are lesson plans due?  Will you be expected to write and administer tests?  Will you have to do gate duty and how often will it be required.  If any of these extras are required, are you being paid well enough to do all this?

As for the weekly camp, just say no, negotiate for a once or twice a term camp.

  7. A US death rate of 2,200,000 is highly unlikely.  There are a bit over 124,000 dead so far. The current death rate is about 800 per day.  If it goes back up to 1,000 per day, or 365,000 year, it will still take almost 6 years to reach 2,075,000 more deaths.

However, let's take a look at the worst day for deaths on record.  On April 16, 2,209 people died of Covid19 in the US.  If we go back to that death rate, it will still take almost 2 years and 7 months to reach 2.2 million deaths.

Historically, very few plagues have lasted more than 3 years.  In fact, in the 20th century, most epidemics have been ended within a year.  This epidemic is unique because there is no treatment or vaccine currently available, but, looking at past epidemics we see declining numbers of cases over time until it goes away or becomes endemic.

  8. As others have pointed out, your village will have an elected Pu Yai Baan.  There is also a person (or group of people) for each Tambon (or Amphur?) called the Oh Bo Ro Tor, who is/are responsible for road repair and things like that.

I don't know which one (if either) is responsible for water, but talking to them would be the first thing that I would do.

Which village are you in?  One of my wife's nieces is running for Pu Yai Baan in Baan Mae Too Lao in Sukhothai.  If she wins the election, she speaks English pretty well!

    What do you mean?

Can you expand on that statement?

Non-O retirement Visas are not being offered in many of our home countries anymore.  If people cannot go to Laos or Cambodia to get one, the Non-O retirement visa is indeed dead in the water.

However, I would say the the Non-O retirement visa is dead in the water for now.  Depending upon whose income is impacted by the end of tourism, these decisions may be quickly reversed.

  10. I think that they will start with 'travel bubbles' allowing people from low case count countries in first.  They may require a recent C19 test and some kind of insurance, but the tourist businesses will strongly oppose that.  I suspect that travel from US/UK/Italy/Spain/France/Brazil will not happen for at least a year.

If a vaccine is developed, a vaccine certificate may very well be needed in order to fly anywhere (not just Thailand).  Sorry to go off topic here, but antivaxers may find themselves having to choose between their principles and being able to fly.

Thanks. This is helpful, but how many years ago did you do this?

A little over 2 years ago.  However, I only had to do this to get my official Thai Teaching License.  I never had to certify my documents to get a Teaching License Waiver.  So double check with the TCT itself what the requirements are to apply for a waiver.  If this is your first year of teaching, you probably won't need any certification done at all.

  12. When I did it, I just got them all notarized at the US embassy.  That was all that was required at that time.  However, you probably should double-check with your school as to the current requirements.

    You will need 3 things:

A teacher's license or a teacher's license waiver from the TCT

A type B visa (or a type O marriage visa)

       A Work Permit

It's been a few years since I went through the process, so I don't remember the order in which this happened.  The notarized transcripts/degrees were for my 5 year teaching license, for the waiver, I just needed to give them copies and show the originals.
