  1. People aren't equal (speed, height, weight, intelligence...), how could society possibly be equal?

    :)

Ok, make up the tolerance. Some might be double as high or double as intelligent, but there are people making 400 times the money than their lower income counterpart. And they don't really work 400 times more or better.

The system is rigged, in Thailand and in the US. While it doesn't make sense to make everybody equal, it makes sense to have an income distribution like a bell curve. The scandinavian countries make good examples.

  2. they need to be taken down quickly from the top.

there must be at least one team of soliders with balls that can arrest the heads and take them to some far off military base

I think we are past the point of "due process" and having to explain actions

Start with Thaksin. I just can get over the fact, they let him run with all the money. Som nam na.

  3. people fighting for DEMOCRACY !!!! hahahahahahahha ahahahahahahah they want to reinstate a dictator and its clique of most corrupt politicians .... but its for democracy ...

i cannot stop laughing at some people gullibility

NOTE: this was to answer someone whose post disappeared who was saying that some newspaper was scoffing at " people fighting for democracy"

Thais need somebody to tell them what to do. That is why they love Thaksin. Yes, they will democratically elect a dictator and be happy with it.

  4. DDT - is a pesticide is it not? - it might kill mosquitoes but it won't have any effect on Malaria.

dengue fever and Malaria are completely different diseases and

    MMS is QUACKERY.

MMS works. My wife used it last december on a very sick relative and she recovered in three days. This women in turn treated another woman with constant knee pain and it disappeared after three days. That woman had spent over 100'000 baht on docters without success. My mother uses MMS and it has opened up her nostrils and her memory has improved. if you research the topic better, you will see there are many people with success stories.

  5. I was walking my dog the other day in the tourist area of Chiang Mai.. I felt like I was in... Thailand

As all I saw were only Thai people all around us.. I did not see many "white folks"... It actually felt strange not seeing any "falong" tourists floating about..

I rarely go to town as I live way out in the Thai boonies.. I am the only "falong" in my village..

Where is everyone?? The streets at night are totally empty unless some sort of Thai goings on..

Maybe I will try those monthly VFW meetings..

They must be in Pattaya. I was out with my wife yesterday and Walking street was kicking.

  6. usually thai hotels are the best in terms of pricing, services and cleanness compare to the hotels in the US and UK. with these price range, it is impossible to stay in any hotel in the western world.

this is a confusing article and it has nothing to do with other hotels in Thailand.

Exactly - You can't even stay in a hotel in the USA.

If you can afford to stay in a hotel

in USA then your making enough money to rent or buy a used motorhome.

I don't see the famous 300 baht rooms in

Thailand much any more but you can probably still

find them in rural towns. Comparing a few run down hotels

in all of Thailand compared to 1000's and 1000's of

all the hotels makes no sense. The article is a waist of time.

Price is all that matters and you can look and see the joint when you

first walk in and then turn around and walk out.

I am just back from a 4000km tour in northern Thailand. I never spent more than 500 baht. In Tak is a great hotel, a 300 baht room, big, tidy, warm water, TV, DVD-Player!, Desk and free Internet too. That was the best deal ever in Thailand.

Beside that i find a lot of motels along the bigger roads quite pleasant. Often 250 with fan and 350 with aircon.

  7. Surprising how much ignorance there is regarding renewable energy and in particular nuclear power. Thailand, along with many other countries will have to consider the contingency of using nuclear energy in the future. Wind power, how much wind is there in Thailand? Solar is a perfect source, yet it hasn't really been used much here. Nuclear power is a good answer to a global problem. Any contract will be tendered to Western companies. I fail to see the problem if the plant is built and maintained properly..

It's you who is ignorant. I once read a German report about the dangers of nuclear power plants (short version of the original 1000 page document) and is was mind boggling. The nuclear industry sent two lawyers against the publisher to refute them, but both of them turned against nuclear power after investigating the report and finding it to be true.

  8. "Members are granted five-year visas, which could not normally be bought even for Bt100 million or Bt200 million."

From this comment we can see a sample of the mindset behind the visa regulations.

I think you're exactly right. The arrogance and belief that Thailand is so wonderful and special that its worth millions of dollars to be able to come here for a few years.

Someone should point out that Thailand isn't the only 3rd world nation with awful traffic and pollution. Perhaps Cambodia could advertise that they're even more backward than Thailand and therefore a 5 year visa will cost BILLIONS of baht for the privilege of visiting and spending your money there.

LOL! I came back to Switzerland a couple of years ago. It is way more beautiful here. I had a guy recently here who also did the same and noticed it too. Once we have our Thai wives, can have Thai food anytime we want, Thailand quickly fades into oblivion. It is too hot there anyway.

  9. I have always been some sort of loner, not longing much for close friendship. I have my Thai wife and that is company enough. I lived up to 6 months in Thailand from 1999 to 2006 and learned the Thai language pretty well. Traveling around the country, i met a lot of friendly people, but in the end it is always the same, same phrases and questions. Since there are so many cheaters, you become suspicious of every friendly person. Now i have been in Switzerland for some time and it has been a good time. My wife enjoys it tremendously in Switzerland, she's currently at home in Nakhon Phanom to take care of her ailing father, but she misses the quietness of our life here!

  10. Despite Bangkok's reputation as one of the world's sex industry centres, predominately Buddhist Thailand is generally a conservative country.

This year's St Valentine's Day celebrations have been tempered by a sluggish economy after two years of political strife and a 2006 coup, and nationwide mourning for King Bhumibol Adulyadej's sister who died in January.

Surely they meant, "despite Bangkok being the world's sex industry centre?"

The irony of trying to stop teens having a Valentine's day bonk when there are brothels on every street corner is obviously lost on the author of that article as well as the holier-than-thou moralists in Thai society.

I can just imagine the police man, after smoking out all those youngsters: "So, these buggers are in bed. Time to go to mia noi!"

  11. As a Swiss myself, i would like to add my 2 cents:

    - there is not one Carlos Minnig registered in phone directory of Switzerland

    - it is not a Swiss name. Rather Spanish.

    - He doesn't look Swiss either. How do they know, when they didn't see his passport?

    - Swiss don't extort money from each other. This is simply a business not known here. Go to Italy.

Strange story and to be taken with a grain of salt.

  12. Well, Thailand does not need the Tourism anyway. You can take boats, Buses, Tuk Tuk, Motor taxi's, bick's, or even walk into Thailand.

Thailand is looking for quality tourism, you know, the guys with the private jets. No need for common economy class carriers here. :o

Yup!! Every PR nightmare is met with the now standard reply, "But we want quality tourists". I guess that now means people who don't care about pollution where they holiday-polluted air, polluted beaches, filthy streets; people who have such a low value on their own lives that flying into unsafe airports isn't nearly as important as having a Bulgari store in the airport so they can spend big money on "quality" items; people who don't care they are charged double, and more, for most things because they have a different skin color, indeed should simply paint big targets on their forehead with captions stating "walking ATM here-fleece at will".

I second that. I recently was in Bang Saen and i didn't know, that the beach there is an official rubbish dump. Charged double? The national parks a are 10x the price. Off limit for me now.

  13. I agree with much of the above that this is an incredibly stupid idea.  Serving up exotic animals at the zoo! This would have enough bad press if it was an establishment not related to the zoo at all.  Further proof I'll never understand Thailand...

Have you never gone on a hike in the northern mountain? Whenever my guide saw an animal he uttered: "Soup, BBQ, Gaeng..."

  14. Please don't flame me, but I also don't understand this.  I know they want their own "state", but there are more intelligent ways to do this.  And they can sure do that while being part of Thailand.  I think many of the problems are caused by a few bad apples that have other interests in mind (financial?).  It is just sad that innocent people have to pay for this.  Sucks.  There is no reason in the world to harm innocent people.  Just a shame...

Most of you don't know the teachings of Islam. I did that many hours a day for the last 3 weeks.

To understand Islam, you must know that they have Allah, a revengeful and sadistic deity, that will burn every unbeliever in hellfire forever. There is even a hadith that claims that there is only space for 70'000 believers in paradise. The surefire way to get there is to die in Jihad, warfare for Allah. Basically those fanatics just try to save their butts. It is the result of a regligion based on fear instead of love. As such, the Muslims are the victims of their own religion.
