  1. Just came back from Homepro with a new water pump. Actually not the model I want to buy at first but the staff suggested me this one. After unpacking it I read the manual and learned that this Grundfos CMB3-5 pump is suitable for water tanks above ground. Our water tank is underground....

Anyway the manual tells that the distance between the pump and the surface of the water should not be more than 1 meter (even if it`s a underground tank (?)).

Usually our water tank is almost full and this distance will not be more than 0.5-1 meter. But what is in the dry season? In our area, south of Hua Hin, we had one or two weeks this year without water from the village supply. The tank will me almost empty and the distance between pump and the surface of the water in the tank is more 1.5-2 meter.

Will I destroy my pump or is this nothing to worry about? If this is the wrong pump for the house I hope Homepro will accept a change to another model (Grundfos CH2-50PT), which was my first choice and it is also recommended by many others.

  2. once I got a fake 100 US note in Phnom Penh. Because I knew that I got it from the hotel I stayed, I went for a report at the police station. Police in Cambodia is 100% useless. No shirt and drunk at duty...

Back in BKK I visited the Kasikorn bank to check if they registered the US I got from them. Wasn't possible and the 100 US was checked by the staff. Clearly a fake note.

I kept the note in my wallet and went away.

Nobody cared about the police and to bring this note out of the system.

I still keep it in my wallet waiting for an Indian fortune teller in the Sukhumvit to get a change in Baht.

  3. At the moment I am on a ED visa which expires tomorrow. Due to the flodding in BKK I went with my GF and daughter to Hua Hin.

In BKK I studied Thai with the ED visa for one year. Now we think about to stay in Hua Hin for at least one year. I would like to look for a language school in Hua Hin and visit the class there. But I dont have enough time now to get the proper papers from the school and go to Immigration.

Is it possible to get an extension of stay (with my ED visa) based on a Thai child?

Possible to get this at the Hua Hin Immigration?

I would like to avoid another trip to BKK in the next days/weeks.

  4. If they are not Thai citizens they also need 4 Thai employees. Some of them use the names of the massage girls around the corner in their business papers. The girls get 500 Bt./month to "borrow" their names. If there is a immigration check (and they really check the indian tailors too) the tailor will tell the girls are out to eat. He will make some calls and 15 minutes later the staff will be there.

I heard this from ONE indian tailor... dont know about the other 218982.

  5. I think it depends which kind of Visa you want to extend and if your paperwork is correct or not.

Every 90 days I have to go to extend my ED Visa. The necessary papers are ready made by my school. Usually I am too late cause I have a long way to go there. When I arrive I have to show my papers and will get a queue no. Mostly my no. is after the lunch break from 12-1 PM. I am out about 2 PM.

All the time I go there I can see many people who have to fill out there visa forms or copy some papers before they queue for their numbers. So if it is possible you should prepare everything at home.

You dont have to bring your own lunch to this place. There are many small cafes and restaurants in the basement. Even a nice and cheap foodcourt with cupons.

  6. And where does one find this helmet sold? In 4 yrs living here, I have never seen these for sale anyway in my shopping travels.

There are several shops for police accessoires in Bangkok. Unfortunately they dont sell guns. But you can get anything else to be a real looking Thai Police guy. Uniforms, helmets, vests, handcuffs...

    I really can imagine:

"Hey, Somchai! Lets get a police uniform there and rob some cars."

    "Wow. Good idea!"

Everybody can go in and buy this stuff. But I was told by some locals that I shouldn,t use the royal thai police emblem. Anyway this is a very dangerous part of the helmet. There is some kind of nail to fix this emblem to the helmet. And this nail inside the helmet is not safe. Just some mm in front of your forehead. You can suggest what will happen in an accident.

The people in this shop are very nice. I think I paid about 350 baht for the helmet and also got a free Thai police sticker for my bike.

The shop is located at the end of Chalermprakiat Rd. / On Nut. GPS: 13.720562,100.697762

  7. As far as I know there is only one way: Central Juvenile and Family Court, Thanon Rachini, Bangkok 10200, Tel 222-0743 Fax 222-2853

I have to make the same soon, cause we also not married and my daughter is just 15 month old. At the Amphoe they also told us the child has to be 7 years old to "confirm".

It would be nice to change some expirences about the court with other people here...

  8. Also; I'm mildly surprised that no one commented on the 39%(farang) and 61%(Thai) ownership of a Thai corporation which enables the farang to own his shares without the requirement of him having to park a large sum in a Thai bank.

Either everyone reading this already knows this (which is highly doubtful), or it's a big 'mai pen rai.'

Mee too. Nobody going to comment on the 'no money in the bank needed' ?

I`ve heard thats possible. A consulting company told me this "way" and even they said that you can change the share ratio later to 49/51 without the money in a bank.

    ...but there is anonther way:

You dont need the full sum in cash. You can pay 500,000 in cash to the company bank acc., 750,000 equipment transfered to the company (computers, machines, etc.) and 750,000 management services provided by sponsors. Now you got your 2 million biz.

  9. Yes indeed, a very interesting report. Thanks for posting, Superskunk!

    ...

You should take a look at page 18 in the report. They localised the position of the radiation source with a flourescent screen attached on a bamboo pole... <deleted>... no Geiger counter in this country?
