  1. You can start here Accommodation Koh Chang

    You could, but wouldn't find much of use as there are only a few listings for Koh Chang.

    So maybe of more use . . .

    You wont find an apartment with a pool on Koh Chang as such a thing doesn't exist. The nearest you will find is Koh Chang Luxury Guesthouse in Chai chet - north end of Klong Prao beach which ticks most of the boxes. (They wont be busy so you should be able to discount the rates.)

    Or Koh Chang Residence, in Kai Bae, 3 mins walk to the beach, has new fully furnished 2 bed bungalows & 1 bed apartments for rent weekly/monthly with free wifi & cable TV. No website. But some info & photos here. (If you want the owners email just let me know, cant post it online)

    Paddys Palms the 'Irish' pub (well, it's green & sells Guinness) at the southern end of White Sand beach has apartment style rooms which are pretty good value . Also has a pool and wifi. Should be able to do a deal for 3 week stay. See: Paddy's Palms Website

    Some of the smaller, out of the way roadside resorts might do you a deal on a room for 3 weeks in February eg Sofia Garden which is 10 mins walk to the beach but has a pool and internet, not sure if it wifi in the rooms though.

  2. But his superiors have hardly shown much of an example in the last 70 odd years.
    Brother Daeng [Khattiya's nickname] should stop exploiting his uniform. He should take it off, wear a suit and tie and formally enter politics."

    They have proven more than happy to enter politics repeatedly without bothering to take off their uniforms or put down their guns.

    Even more ironic given that Major Apirat is commander of the 11th Infantry that played an active role in the 2006 coup. ,

  3. Another case of The Nation twisting facts to suit their own agenda.

    The Supreme Court found Thaksin guilty of conflict of interest by using his position as prime minister to influence the transaction between Pojaman and the Financial Institutions Development Fund (FIDF).

    No it didnt.

    Thaksin was basically found guilty of being a government minister at the time his wife bought the land. Under Thai law, he, as the husband of the buyer, had to sign to agree to his wife's purchase. If he hadnt the sale could be ruled illegal. He was convicted because he complied with the law but by doing so broke another law regarding conflict of interest by government ministers. So it was a kind of 'damned if you do & damned if you dont' situation.

    The actual sale was deemed lawful by the Supreme Court in the original hearing in 2007, which is why Pojaman was never asked to return the plot.

  4. Potential Problems

    * Irregular (unspecified) widescreen aspect ratio for video playback

    * No integrated USB ports

    * No card reader

    * Non-removable battery

    * Non-expandable memory

    * Mono audio speakers

    * Prolonged typing on glass?

    * No integrated camera

    * No HDMI/Displayport

    * Still no Adobe Flash support

    * Limited codec support (AAC, MP3, H.264)

    * Proprietary iBook eBook format

    * No breakdown of 'up to' 10 hours battery life

    * No mains power cable included

    But it is very shiny, isnt it?

  5. As Carsten said you will probably have to go via Chantaburi, i.e. change buses there. Pattaya isnt in Chantaburi it's in Chonburi province. Or you might also find you have to change buses in Rayong.

    It's a bit of a hassle by public bus, far better to just use one of the minibus services that you can book at any tour agent here on Koh Chang unless you want to spend most of the day travelling and hanging around bus stations.

  6. However, he added, there were no records of anybody dying in a mysterious manner recently.
    Note the disclaimer at the end so as not to imply all believers are retards and have them lose face.

    More worrying than the spread of nonsense like this is the fact that teachers are the people who are doing it. I think we can safely rule out any future Nobel prize winners coming from Lampang.

  7. You'll find loads of places under 800 baht/night. If you want to be amongst backpaclers on Lonely beach then Siam Hut or the nearby Nature Beach are goods bets.

    If you prefer a quieter beachfront hut then Tiger Huts or KP Huts on Klong Prao beach fit the bill. KP Huts is a bit better quality - they have some nice new fan bungalows built amongst the trees right on the beach. Or just off the beach at a small estuary at the southern end of Klong Prao is Blue Lagoon which is a longstanding favourite for people looking for cheap bungalow in a quiet spot at a resort run by a local family.

    Also take a look at Cliff Cottage down in Bangbao - basic huts but very quiet, great views and laid back atmosphere.

    Try to avoid Songkran and also long weekend holidays and everywhere will be pretty quiet in April / May

  8. Looking back at the stock price movements of Shin Corp and its cellular subsidiary Advanced Info Service (AIS), it is clear that the stock prices moved up significantly whenever good news came out in support of their business operations.

    The Nation's team of crack investigative journalists are on the ball yet again

  9. Bear in mind that before Mr Somchai sells the lottery ticket on the street it has been through several distributors, all of whom take a cut. The real winners from the current system arent the government, they are the five companies that have the rights to buy the tickets from the GLO. These are then distributed around the country by the, These companies, which make hundreds of millions of baht every month are the real winners.

    If there is an online lottery system they will be the ones who lose out big time. Coincidentally, they are Democrat party backers, possibly one reason why Abhisit cancelled the online lottery at the last minute. :)

  10. 1500 - 1700 for 15 minutes is the going rate in Chiang Mai & Koh Chang with 30 minutes for 2,900 ish. The fixed wing ultralights are way more expensive here than in US and there are far fewer of them with even fewer good pilots. So no reason for flights to be cheaper here.

  11. Unfortunately it cant be the perfect TV thread as no-one has mentioned the topic of Work Permits and whether the protagonist has one or not. If not, that automatically invalidates his every opinion & action. ( I think that's written somewhere in the TV Rules & Regulations).

  12. I have been to KC three times in 2009 - in February, August and at Christmas, and I really was astonished at the rate of building between White Sands Baach and Lonely Beach. Resorts, shophouses and hotels particularly.

    Is there no enforcement of the National Park building restrictions, or is it OK to develop alongside the road?

    There are no National Park building restrictions in that area is it isn't in the National Park.

    If the entire island was NP you'd have to pay an entry fee to get on it. You dont. The land around the fringes of the island is pretty much all outside the park boundary. Developers have to apply for planning permission but for shophouses, crap shop units it is easy to get.

  13. Looks very pretty and I'm sure it will appeal to people who have never been to Koh Chang or just like an armchair read to while away 15 minutes.

    Hiring a proof reader would have been an idea. Then 'facts' that are obviously incorrect - such as Koh Kood being in the National Marine Park wouldn't be included and page 5 and page 24 wouldn't feature the exact same text.

    Half of it seems to be articles that could be used in any magazine anywhere e.g. those on religion / food / the lovely Thai people / Thai culture etc

    And if you're going to justify text then do it ,not half a page justified and half aligned to the right as on page 42

    And Elite Suratthani Calendar??? <deleted>? I thought Suratthani was about 1000km from Koh Chang

  14. Are you intending to connect it with a cable and have it as a second WiFi router with additional range on the same channel with the same SSID, or are you hoping it will receive the wireless signal from the first router and boost it on.

    The 2nd way is not supported by all routers, but the first should be easy to setup.

    Looks like buying 20metres of cable and doing it that way might be the simplest option. (The powerline adapters look like a good idea but not possible in the type of house I have which and I think too expensive to justify.)

    Maybe I'll look around for a cheap antennae next time I'm in Pantip - not sure if such a thing exists here.

  15. I just got a new wifi router, a TP Link, as my old one was playing up a little. I have now installed the new one as the main wifi router connected to the phone line.

    However, as the old one, a Belkin - no idea what model but about 3 or 4 years old, does still work I thought I could try using it as a repeater to increase the range of the wifi signal from the new router. ( Better to do this than just chuck it out.)

    Only problem is I cant figure out how to set the two routers up to do this. I've found info online on various sites but cant seem to get any of the instructions to actually work, there doesn't seem to be one simple idiot proof way. I know I leave the TP Link configuration the same and somehow have to change settings on the Belkin but cant figure out how to do this.

    If anyone has done this and has 'non-techy' instructions on how to set it up that would be appreciated.

  16. Been doing a little X-mas shopping in Central the last couple weeks and definately felt lots of shuddering and movement while eating ice cream on the 4th floor.

    I think a few people would like to know what you ordered . :)
