  1. The Army had to deploy three helicopters and ground patrol vehicles to provide security for yesterday's test

There is a simple way out of this mess - buy more helicopters. The airships will be safe and can carry out their surveillance. So, no loss of face for the govt as the airships can still be used. And the army get more toys.

  2. more than 52,000 new cars are added to the roads of Bangkok every month

He has good ideas yet he still follows the tried and trusted 'Think of a number and no journalist will dare to question it' method of presenting his policies. 52,000 new cars a month? I.e. pretty much all the vehicles sold in the country every month. But if it was spoke by a rich man it must be true.

And no-one at the press conference thought to ask him where the money would come from to pay for all this either as he isn't tight with Abhisit, so no guarantee the Dems will cough up. Having a dream is one thing, being able to pay for it is another.

  3. I recently met a young Russian guy who joined the Police Volunteers in Pattaya when he was setting up his business in Pattaya a while ago. (Not sure if he was with Nil's or Howard's crew) He was happy to admit that he joined as it was quick way to get contacts with the police. He did it for a couple of months until he got to know the people he wanted to know then left.

I'll wager he isn't the only person to have done that.

  4. There is a quite simple solution that will allow all the works to remain in Thailand. Their employers simply pay 5,000 baht/person to the mafia government approved nationality verification company.

Everyone's a winner. The workers can stay . The factories all employ legal workers. The govt can claim they help the immigrants and 11 hand picked companies are 5,000 x 500,000 = 2.5 Billion Baht better off.

  5. Josef - was the lease ever registered with the Land Office? You should have a lease contract covered in stamps and a title deed for the land with your name on the back saying you leased for 30 years.

If not, then you have a house that was built without any permission on land you haven't legally leased longterm.

  6. It's on the top of the News Clippings forum. Still there now.

If it is a Google ad then TV is in breach of Adsense rules by not stating that it is - there is no text to say 'Ads by Google'

If it is a TV sponsor ad, then TV is in breach of it's own rules.

  7. Ahh. Fair enough, Crossy. But odd that the banners for forum sponsors also redirect to Googleads rather than direct to their own website.

Eg in the General Forum ( http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/General-f48.html ) the very small links for, say Travel Forum sponsors link direct to the sponsors site, no-one will click on these. But click on the Travel Forum and all the large banner ads - the type that people will click on - link via Google.

Eg Painai.com - the link on the Travel Forum page goes to:

    http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/aclk?sa...ai.com&nm=2

Why not just link to 'painai.com' as that is what they are paying for?

Just wondering how come, as if I was paying to be a forum sponsor I'd want the link going direct to my site not via Google to my site.

I'm sure there is a simple explanation.

  8. Police Lieutenant General Santhan said the investigation of the recent blasts was progressing well due to evidence from CCTVs and other sources. The suspect who threw a grenade at the Bangkok Bank’s Silom branch was male, the official said.

That narrows it down to 50% of the population. Nice work Sherlock.

Breaking News: The police have narrowed down the search further to 'guys with dark skin', ' drug users', 'communists', and Thaksin.

  9. I'm sure there is a very good reason for this ad and is in no way casting aspersions on the integrity of this forum or the reasons as to why it is permitted.

    Exhibit A.

    9) Not to discuss proxies or other methods of bypassing government blocking of websites.

    Exhibit B.

  10. Given that the burden of proof rests with the accused in corruption and related cases, the prosecution concluded that they were not satisfied with evidence presented by the defence, which argued that all Shin Corp shares were "sold" to the couple's children and relatives before Thaksin assumed the premiership.

So you have to be able to conclusively and beyond all doubt, reasonable and otherwise, prove yourself to be not guilty in a corruption case.

"This argument was not convincing because the documentation, such as notices of share transfers, promissory notes, annual reports of Ample Rich (one of the offshore nominees), could have been tampered with or backdated to alter the whole story," Kaewsan said.

'Could have been' but the prosecution doesn't have to provide any proof that they were - just that there is a possibility of this being done.

  11. (I think someone should move the post into the Eastern Thailand Forum, you'd get more replies there.)

How much do you want to spend per night? There are some nice bungalow resorts by the sea in Kai Bae - KB Resort, Kai Bae Beach Resort, Siam Bay Resort etc.

Or if you just want a good value AC room then you'll find them from about 500 baht up now only a few minutes walk to the beach and also plenty of bars & restaurants. Example below:

For the microlights you need to go to see Nimit, the pilot, he is usually at the BB Gun Range in Klong Prao - 100m north of the temple - if he isn't at the airstrip.

  12. I dont think Thaksin will be too disappointed. Any day where you start with zero and end up 30 billion better off is not a bad one.

It wasn't as though he was going to get it all back, if he had then it would have nullified the coup and everything since 2006, and there was a good chance he could lose it all. The judiciary have done what they were required to do and there's a compromise that should satisfy both sides.

Now what to spend that 30 billion on :)

  13. The Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) on Wednesday postponed the airports seizure case for another month as requested by key leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), citing "security concerns amid rising political temperatures."

Prosecutors were scheduled on Wednesday to decide whether or not to indict nine PAD leaders, who spearheaded the royalist yellow-shirt protesters to seize Bangkok's main Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports. All were charged with "illegally gathering of more than ten persons to incite chaos and law violation."

A lawyer representing the PAD leaders - including Sondhi Limthongkul and Chamlong Srimuang - however, asked prosecutors to postpone the case again, reasoning that his clients were "on duty in upcountry." He also raised "concern over the safety of the accused, due to the current political circumstances."

In 2008, tens of thousands of yellow-shirt protesters staged marathon mass protests in Bangkok that culminated in the airport blockade in late November.

The PAD's 8-day-long airport closure left more than 300,000 passengers stranded. The blockade was lifted only in early December after Thailand's constitution court disbanded the ruling "People Power Party", automatically toppling the government of Somchai Wongsawat, who they accused of being a proxy of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

The prosecution team today readily agreed to defer the case to April 22nd as "papers concerning the case are yet to be completed."

    (Thai News Agency)

I have a feeling on April 22, Sondi & Chamlong will have a round of golf or massage booked for the same day and so the trial will be delayed again. No doubt they will face the full force of Thai justice when they can fit it into their hectic schedule.
