  1. Even though the Saudi government has every right to demand justice, the hard fact that not all crimes can be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved should be accepted.

But they could expect a real police force to send investigators to have a word with the hi-so people seen wearing the gems and ask them where they got them from. And if they wouldn't mind giving them back to their rightful owners.

  2. Dont think it;s to do with the actual land boundary, more for building regulations.

Where I live it's 7 metres from the centre of the road ( it's a regular two lane road ) You cant or shouldn't build anything permanent close to the road as when it gets widened as happened here recently, the workers just dig up anything in their path. Such as driveways, walls etc.

  3. Then theres the sad sorry tale of the ones you had to leave behind.. I still think of her :crying:

CSI version which the M Sport division breathed life into.. Only about a 1000 made worldwide.. 6 speed.. v12 5.6 (same basic plant as in the maclaren F1) almost 400 bhp.. And so smooth, more grand tourer than track day star.. But shes was a good un..

Left her in storage rather than sell her, simply cos I didnt want to part with such a rare gem, then when I finally realized long distance relationships like this could never work, let her go for a song.

    Sigh..

At least you still have the white van, handy for school runs in the future.

  4. But to sum up the other thread and to avoid scaremongering, there is no change in rules. Immigration Officials confirm this and there is no mention of any change on the Immigration website or in any recognised news source either in Thai or English language.

The original article is based on information from unspecified sources about an unpublished rule that has apparently changed. A rule so unknown that the only people to know of its change is the writer of the article. No mention of this change anywhere else in print or online.

Scaremongering in order to drum up attention for a new down market newspaper in Pattaya. And it works.

  5. While waiting for the "food" to arrive I looked up and saw a big poster stating that the price for the Angry Whopper was 185 Baht.

At least now you know why it's called the Angry Whopper.

  6. "More worrying for the army is that their budget, which has doubled since 2006 would probably be trimmed."

Do you have a source that the defense budget more than doubled?

Do you doubt everything just because it doesn't appear in The Nation?

    You mean like this source:

Asia Times. Thai military puts up spending defense.

    or this:

OpinionAsia. Thai military budget set to rise. Again.

    or this:

The Economist. Where Power Lies. Thailand's Political Army. ( no link as the story is subscription only but the graph below is idiot proof enough. I hope. )

    post-56770-090302700 1285408136_thumb.jp

or this from just last week:

    Time Magazine - 17 September

'Another example is the battered democracy of Thailand. Since 2006, when the military toppled an elected government, defense spending has more than doubled to $5.5 billion. It is tempting to see this as the price the current Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, must pay to ensure his generals' loyalty.'

Even the B**g**k P**t which isn't exactly known for it's anti-govt stance had an article about excessive spending in the July 27 issue. Headline was:

'Military shopping list grows. Govt eager to okay big-ticket items ahead of army chief's retirement, despite controversies.'

and it mentioned that 'Controversies over the wisdom of the purchases tend to be ignored, such is the government's eagerness to please.'

  7. Strangely enough US History or the ins and outs of the American legal system aren't topics that pop up in conversation here on the island.

The reason is obvious . . there is no-one with sufficient qualifications to teach these subjects to the locals and thus feed their never ending appetite for knowledge.

A house with internet will be the biggest problem. But could just tether your mobile to a laptop and connect that way regardless of where you are. Fine for regular websurfing but you wont be downloading movies.

Hope you would seriously consider living a year on Lonely Beach. I know that'd do my head in as I like a good, long, empty beach and peace and quiet.

  8. Our article is based on real events and real accounts of people who have been arrested for overstay here in Thailand.

^The difference being a real news report would have quoted their sources.

Interesting as threads here which report unsubstantiated stories are quickly shut unless they can provide links to actual fact based, news sources.

Whereas this thread is posted as 'News' but is based entirely on changes to unpublished rules which no-one knows really exist or not and which havent been reported by any legitimate news source.

If the story was intended to be a taste of the type of exclusive revelations readers can expect in the new paper then I expect to see loads of articles based in changes to unpublished rules which are known only to a select few farang insiders - who happen to write for Pattaya's newest 'newspaper'.

  9. Unfortunately there isn't going to be any election - regardless of what Abhisit says in the USA, unless the ruling classes can guarantee that the Dems will win. Which they cant do at the moment.

Imagine the payback if the reds and their supporters were elected into power? More worrying for the army is that their budget, which has doubled since 2006 would probably be trimmed.

Abhisit will make all the right noises for sure, but at some point in the run up to a proposed election there will be unexplained bombings or some other incident which causes the elections to be postponed indefinitely.

  10. Take the hacks from one failed paper and use them to start a new one.

The move to Pattaya One follows the rebellion of these foreign columnists who were up until recently writing for the Pattaya Today.

“We left because Peter Read of the failed Pattaya Today newspaper would not pay us. Howard told us about his idea and we couldn't get work elsewhere so we thought we'd give it a try,” said one of the group who said he was disgruntled by poor treatment from Read.

  11. Perhaps the TAT is running 'black ops' resorts, whose whereabouts are known only to a select few. Visitors to Thailand are taken there immediately after landing at Swampy and therefore aren't seen in public.

The tourists are then subjected to constant 'Amazing Thailand' adverts and by the end of their two week holiday they have been brainwashed and head back home with various thoughts flowing through their head such as ' I must vote for Bangkok as the Worlds Best City', 'Pattaya is a family friendly heaven on earth'.

  12. It is extremely worrying that our youth increasingly choose to use violence and other extreme acts as a form of self expression, instead of trying to prevent conflict through reason and discussion. Kids must be taught how to listen and how to constructively pursue arguments. An understanding of the concept of co-existence must be instilled in students, and that everyone is accountable for the society they live in.

Good to see The Nation advocating prevention of conflict through reason and discussion and preaching co-existence and accountability. Pity they didn't prractice this themselves in this July 30th Editorial which had more of the 'Do things my way or else I will first sulk and then use force to get what I want' type of attitude that they are now against as it shows how 'people can't behave as responsible citizens in a civilised society'.

If Cambodia insists on managing Preah Vihear, Thailand should respond in kind by closing the borders and stopping all trade with its neighbour. This would be the first warning. Thai soldiers on the border are on high alert. If the first warning goes unheeded, we should reserve the right, under our sovereignty, to drive out any nationals infringing upon our land.
  13. The Nation's love in with Abhisit and the Dems continues unabated. Nice how they ignore any recent stories of Democrat corruption and blamed coalition partners for any problems.

Three recent 'Dodgy Dem' stories for starters . . .

Suthep's land on Samui - Suthep & Land never a good combination, looks like he didn't learn his lesson from the 1992 scandal which brought down the Democrat govt then.

Chuan Leekpai's son, whose only job experience since graduating from Ramhkhamheng Uni has been working at Chiang Mai zoo for a week and as an assistant to his Dad for a year, being given a Deputy spokesman's post at the Culture Ministry - with no interview required as the Culture Minister Nipit said 'Pluem' is a fast learner and he would like to see him become prime minister in the future.

And of course the 258 million baht donation from TPI to the Democrat Party. Just over 2 months ago, on July 13, the Office of the Attorney-General established a five-member prosecution team for the Democrat Party’s donation case which was forwarded to the Constitutional Court.

  14. Girlfriend has some land on Koh Chang with no paperwork other than tax paid receipts each year. She says that she's heard of a new title of I believe Kor sor 22 that can possibly be obtained.Never heard of this designation before.Anyone ever come across this? what rights would this give?

Looks like it is related to the locals ongoing battle against the Navy for ownership of land on Koh Chang. Recently, in the past couple of months, the government sided with the locals and the Navy have had to give up their claim on 6,600 Rai of land here.

This land was mostly untitled farmland - Por Bor Tor 5 - before. So I'd guess that the Kor Sor 22 is the upgraded version.

But as far as getting real title deeds for the land soon I wouldn't get your hopes up. The Land Office have already surveyed the Sor Kor 1 land that will be upgraded and upgrading any other land isn't going to happen in the near future. ( At least according to people at the Land Office in Laem Ngop.)
